I have been playing bluegrass banjo for over 20 years, and have performed for events such as Thanksgiving dinners at hotels, folk clubs, bluegrass festivals, and fundraisers. In addition to playing and teaching banjo, I play and teach guitar and piano, with guitar being my main instrument. I am no Earl Scruggs, but I am a great teacher for beginners and intermediate players. As a teacher, I am patient, intuitive, and always tailor the lessons to fit the interests and learning styles of each individual student.

I started dancing at the age of 7 in Japan. At the age of 17, I attended to Arts Educational school in England and at the age of 18, I moved to New York city to attend Joffrey Ballet school.
At the age of 20, I was accepted to Dance Theatre of Harlem in NY and danced as a professional ballerina for about 6 years. Performed many principal roles and toured all over the US and overseas.

Sam is a technical teacher who runs the gamut from classical opera to musical theater to pop vocal technique, and specializes in guiding classical singers to a healthy contemporary sound. She helps each student find their own unique voice and sound in a healthy and sustainable way. She guides each student toward increased vocal freedom, range, color, agility, finesse, and stamina with instruction tailored to their particular instrument.
Sam encourages all students to find joy and play in singing and in the learning process. She believes the best results come from a mixture of dedication and play, and nurturing the whole artist. She has seen first-hand how nurturing the body-mind-heart connection can help achieve a singer’s goals and a fully emotionally-connected sound free of tension.
