About Azuri
Learning is one of my main pursuits. My name is Azuri and I have studied music for over a decade and have my degree in guitar performance from musicians institute. I've had the gift of studying many artistic crafts and spend my time today trying to further my own study, while sharing what I've learned with my students.

Art is one of the most important tools we have as a culture and contains in it a shared history, tradition and the keys to future ones. Whether it be through the primal qualities of music or the impulses of dance, the records of drawing or descriptions of writing, these are the tools for our expression. I have had the great fortune to study, in many different settings, a small piece of these traditions and sharing them is paramount in respect to receiving them. I love sharing knowledge and I hope to elevate yours as a st
udent.

Teaching Philosophy -

My teaching philosophy is built on well rounded communication, explanation and examples. So, that a student can truly understand and learn a topic, surrounded in a very humorous, light and supportive environment.
Along with being provided good information, a student learns better and feels more motivated to learn when there is a balance of positive support and confidence building accompanied by constructive criticism and examples/information that can help a student assess what ever walls they may be meeting in their musical growth.

I understand that all students/artists have different goals they wish to achieve. So it is very important to me to accommodate each individuals needs and wants to help them grow in the fields they wish too; However, In that I have played music for a long time, I understand there are certain things that a student may not have been exposed to yet; It is important that while focusing on a students artistic goals they respect and are open to the suggestion and guidance of their teacher.

I truly believe music has an amazing influence on the world and has the ability to change peoples way of thinking. Therefore, I try and keep an open awareness to all music, so that I can understand all different musical languages utilized to communicate to people, and I don't believe I will ever know them all. I hold it to attention to influence my students somewhat similarly so that they can shape the landscape of how we communicate musically in the future.

I also try and be very patient with my students. Knowing that when I feel rushed, it makes information more difficult to comprehend, remember and allocate. I love watching the gears run in my students head, so I try and provide information that pushes a student but is within their abilities.

HUMOR is very important. I like to break people out of their shell by telling a joke and hopefully getting one back, so they feel more comfortable and free. One of a Artists worst enemies are nerves. Keeping things light-hearted and maybe even a little small talk can be very helpful to a students development and growth on a topic. After all, Art is meant to be fun and we should enjoy every moment of it, in fact we should enjoy every moment in life period.

I understand music requires focus and discipline and I have certain expectation of a student to understand that and practice. You can't buy chops, you can't buy music theory etc. you can get help but eventually your the one who must understand it and play it.

I am here to help you. Based on what I know and what I have extensively studied, I will do all that I can to help you achieve your musical goals. I am here to answer your questions and help you grow. I love teaching because I love sharing knowledge; As long as your seek it, it is here for you. Otherwise, I'd still love to hear some jokes.

*** Lesson Details ***
I'm very disciplined but am also very light hearted. It's important for me to assess things seriously, so that one can understand a topic or piece of information.

I generate my lessons based on the individuals needs and therefore draw from various curriculums, sources and examples, such as : MI curriculum for ear training, Theory, Single string Technique, Reading, Rhythm guitar, Ted Greenes Chord Chemistry, Berklee Guitar Method, as well as The Real Book, other artist books(Eric Clapton, etc.) The Guitar Players Hand Book, Bach pieces and self developed curriculums, relative to the topic at hand and students personal goals, amongst many others.

-Beginning students within three months of consistent lessons should have the ability to solo and playing chords to songs that they are interested in and songs provided in the lesson along with a basic understanding of the major scale and its relationship to all of the diatonic music.

-intermediate students should have an elevated understanding of scale and chord patters along with the theory that explains modal relationships and use of these concepts.

-Advanced students should learn all of diatonic scale shapes and modes assuming they don't already know them in which case their specifically situation will be assessed

-Professional students I expect to have specific questions therefore where they grow should be largely subjective.

Overall, in a short amount of time on a scale of 1 - 10 I expect to in three months at-least elevate a students musical abilities one full point if not more.

I've been a songwriter since I was a teenager. I have been teaching music for almost as long. As a teacher, my joy comes from seeing a student realize they have grown, or discover something they now can do that they could not do before, and the confidence gained through their efforts with my guidance. I carry around the Beatles Pocket Reference Guide at all times and preach the gospel of their songwriting legacy to my students when necessary and whenever possible!! I equally love the mystery of the musical ear, and music theory, and how it all works together...I love purple. To me every student is unique and special, therefore I design the lesson around what they need and or want to learn. With the younger students, I strongly suggest we work out of a book as well as me giving them handouts to work on too. There are many and various books by Faber and Faber I love to use. Hal Leonard and Alfred Publishing have some great books depending on the students needs. With kids, it's important to keep it fun and interesting, and get them on a practice schedule. I believe one must have much patience with the younger students and the level of communication must be high, keeping them engaged and focused. With teens and adults, it depends on where they are at, and I always ask what they want to concentrate on. A well rounded piano lesson would work on reading, technique, theory, songs. Again, depending on the type of student, the lesson would incorporate more /and or less of these components.
I've been coined the "Chord Queen" by many students because of my fascination with how theory plays a subconscious role in songwriters who write by ear and if I'm teaching songwriting, we are looking at how the song is structured, the lyrics,the music, and of course the harmony and arrangement and I'm here to guide the student to be able to finish the song, and them be happy when it comes to fruition.

Robin really took the time to understand our daughter's strengths and weaknesses to determine how best to approach improving her piano playing. She didn't just teach out of a book, rather she worked on the fundamentals that are needed in order to build a firm foundation. Elise likes her as a teacher and was very attentive through the whole lesson.

I teach basic Music Theory to all my students so that they understand the role of the cello in an orchestral position as well in chamber music. But it is essential to understand the basics of music theory. So I make it a rule that each student learn music theory every 2 weeks during their lesson.

About Arlette
Arlette C. grew up and attended schools in Culver City, California. She attended Los Angeles Valley College where she received an Associate of Arts degree in Music. She then received a partial scholarship and received the Margaret Aue Award for outstanding cellist while attending California State University at Northridge, where she received a Bachelor of Music degree in cello performance. She went on to attend University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, with a full scholarship and graduated with a Master of Music degree in cello performance.
After her graduation in 1984, she toured Europe for eight months playing cello with the Schatz Theater Group, an American opera company. Upon her return from Europe, she was hired to play in various orchestras in Michigan. In 1991, she returned to California and was named Operations Manager with the Inla
nd Empire Symphony Orchestra in San Bernardino. In 1994, she moved back to Culver City, where she began to work for Cedars Sinai Medical Center in 1997. Noticing the lack of any significant orchestra in Culver City she founded the Culver City Chamber Orchestra, with a mission of developing classical music interest in young audiences.
After she founded the Culver City Chamber Orchestra in 1997, she created the Just For Kids Youth Symphony Orchestra (2006-2008). With the Just For Kids group, she taught music fundamentals, music history, musicianship, and orchestral repertoire.
Ms. Arlette as well is the Founder and Music Director of her own orchestra and has attended several conducting workshops throughout the United States hosted by world renowned teachers such as Harold Faberman, Apo Hsu, Eduardo Navega, Marin Alsop, Lawrence Golan, Leonard Slatkin, Christoph Eschenbach, Otto Werner-Mueller, and Daniel Lewis. Her current conducting coach is Mr. John Koshak.
She has taught at Bloom School of Music In 2013. She is successfully conducting with the Culver City Chamber Orchestra, and is a free-lance cellist, and holds two wonderful cello studios in Culver City and Reseda.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are fun and entertaining, but you (the student) will always learn something). You will first learn the basics like posture, sitting properly, cello basics, then we actually play the cello. Yeah!!!! You play a line or two or three, then we play together!!! We do this a couple of times with several different fingers on the strings so you can get used to it. Repeating this over and over gives you lots of confidence and mastery!!!
At the 6 month mark I hold a recital for all my students who must participate so that I and your parents can see the progress you have made in these 6 months. And both you and I should be very proud of the work You have put into playing the cello!!!

Methods I teach are traditional scales, etudes, broken thirds and easy pieces to difficult ones. Styles I keep range from the entire classical era from Bach to 21st century music to Broadway and some jazz.

I started playing cello at 26 years old with absolutely zero musical experience of any kind. After 6 months of attempting to teach myself the cello, I decided I needed help and begun my journey to find myself a cello instructor. I was so fortunate to find Arlette! Arlette was abundantly patient with me, from my habit of asking too many questions to my very unpredictable availability. Before Arlette started teaching me music theory and how to play the cello, I never appreciated the value of having an instructor. After having taken lessons from her for nearly a year, I would simply say having a fine instructor like Arlette is a necessity. The first time I played a duet was with Arlette, and it was a moment in my life I am so thankful for and I will never forget! She is kind and consistent, very professional but also very personable which is a very hard thing to balance. She pushed me to excel without making me feel overwhelmed. I could go on forever about how great a cello instructor Arlette is so I will finish with this... If you are looking for a cello teacher look no further.

I am a now heading off to be a freshman in college after studying with Arlette for over ten years. I began as a shy six year old and can say I am so glad my mother encouraged me to study cello with Arlette. Arlette is both patient and stern in her teaching style. Every criticism was constructive and every praise warm and ernest. She helped me not only in my studies as a solo cellist, but as an orchestral cellist as well. I am so grateful and happy I to have studied with Arlette and encourage all those young (or older) cellists, whether they are beginning or more advanced, to study with Arlette.

I attended the Berklee School of Music in Boston, and I have a BA in Music. I am a working pro musician, regularly playing all different kinds of gigs with different bands, as well as solo, and regular gigs on TV. I have taught music lessons, and guitar in particular, for 18 years. I play all styles, but my favorites are Rock, R&B, Country, Rockabilly, and Blues (I also enjoy playing jazz, classical, and other styles as well). My main instruments are guitar (electric and acoustic) and voice, but I play keyboards, bass, mandolin, and drums also.

I focus on a comprehensive approach, incorporating each student's natural abilities as well as musical interests - whether you want to learn how to play your favorite songs, learn all the skills to play with a band, or study music theory and advanced songwriting te

I also love when students ask questions - I operate under the old saying that "there are no stupid questions!"

I provide blank manuscript/chord chart/tab paper. Highly recommended: Amazing teacher!

Mike is a patient, supportive and incredibly talented teacher. From music theory to practical application, he's got all the answers... And he makes learning fun!

I took guitar lessons more than ten years ago and found it frustrating and I was terribly uninspired. Recently I took my old guitar out of mothballs and was determined to make some progress on the dang thing. A good friend recommended Mike and I've been taking lessons for nine months with him.

What's great about Mike is that he customizes my lessons. I'm not learning out of a book (which, I could if wanted) but I'm learning the songs that I love and learning the theory behind the chords, too. Then he keeps building on what we just learned. I go home from my hour lessons and play for another two hours because I'm so inspired.

I can't recommend Mike highly enough. He's a gem of a music instructor in the concrete jungle of Los Angeles.

A Note From Francesca:

My official bio is listed below, but perhaps more important than the things I have done are the things that I am doing. I am now approaching my 15th year of teaching. I love to teach! I carry a minimum of 30 students, but have carried more then 80 at one time, and have never once complained. My waiting list cycles based on my performance schedule and recording schedule. If you don't see a time that works for you, feel free to reach out and see if we can find something that works, as an artist, my schedule can be quite full but also quite flexible. I love my students, I get to do what I love all day and I am sure it shows. I have a blast discovering new ways to experience music with "my kids." I call all of my students kids even though most of my studio consists of young adults. I try to have a young air in my classes at all times as it just makes the process so much more fun for everyone.

I've seen it all in through years: kids, adults, beginners and advanced students. I am personally very interested in being the most versatile musician possible and I love being able to share my knowledge with my students. We can study anything and everything from Classical Guitar to Electric Guitar Shredding; from Opera to Kelly Clarkson; from Tchaikovsky to Little Richard! I love getting students to dabble in little bits of all genres, often getting even the most skeptical student singing and playing comfortably in a matter of just a few weeks. My students will be able to read music for their favorite tunes and understand how to improvise from the start. Once you come in, you'll be hooked. You will have fun because I am having fun!

I encourage all of my students to share their favorite music with me. It affords me the opportunity to learn more about what they desire to learn and what types of music they enjoy. I feel I learn as much from my students when I truly listen to them and their music as they do from me.

On a side note, I love seeing students at my shows! I am a full time musician and can be seen playing with my band, in my own solo project and in various choral settings. I feel obligated to share my joys and experiences-

Not many people have been blessed to sing alongside as many renowned musicians as I have - I've been lucky to be welcomed in both the commercial and classical worlds and they have both afforded me venues to use my voice and express the most vital corners of my soul. To find your purpose through art is one of the greatest gifts you can receive. And to be able to do that in front of thousands of music lovers live or over the airwaves is a surreal experience.

It'€™s funny, my classical cronies are impressed to hear my stories of packed rock gigs at the House Blues and national touring festivals like Warped Tour and my rock buddies ask to hear my stories of Disney Hall performances with the LA Phil. To be honest, Iâ'm impressed to be there too. Sometimes, I look around and think, how did I get here? How did I get lucky enough to live the dream, to find a home in music?

I have come to be known as one of the top Musical Mentors & Artist Development Experts on the west coast. In my award winning studio, I spend time coaching the young voices and faces of today hottest TV shows seen on ABC, Nickelodeon, and the Disney Channel, but I still have a soft spot for up and comers in the indie music world. Having written and performed my own music for decades, I not only lived the collegiate experience of the elite classical performer singing for presidents and world leaders, but also the dingy road of the rock musician who'€™s showed one night to a packed stadium full of fans and showed up another, thousands of miles from home to play to a coffee shop of 5 people. Music has brought me to nearly every continent and introduced me to some of the most talented and diverse people you can imagine. From the first time we talked on the phone, I knew I wanted Francesca to be my teacher. Just by a simple conversation and the way I spoke, she pointed out a few things that I definitely wanted to work on, and I was hooked! She is truly talented and passionate about what she does. I like when she gives me a focus or shows me the science so I can understand a technique better. I think the best thing about Francesca is that even when I am embarrassed by my voice and think I sound awful, she always has the most encouraging and uplifting thing to say!

About Travis
I grew up in Los Angeles and went on to attend the University of Redlands .While at University, I played in the University Orchestra and a variety of other ensembles. In addition to violin, I also studied jazz guitar, so classical music is definitely not the only musical style I am familiar with.

I am lucky enough to study with Tamsen Beseke, who is a member of the LA Opera and a prolific session musician. I have also studied with Jeanne Skrocki, who is currently the Concertmaster of the Redlands Symphony Orchestra and the Assistant Concertmaster of the Pacific Symphony.

My musical experience with violin is not confined to classical! I also have experience with other styles, including Irish folk music and bluegrass. While classical is my bread and butter, I can take a more rounded approach in terms of exposure to musical styles if
desired.

*** Lesson Details ***
My approach to teaching lessons emphasizes making a friendly connection with my student. In my experience the student will learn the most when he or she feels comfortable asking questions and communicating with the instructor. I want my student to have fun and feel like progress is being made!

For beginners, the very first thing we go over is proper posture and bow hold. From there, we will move on to musical examples and basic violin techniques. I also incorporate basic music theory concepts into my lessons as needed. I have a strong grasp of that topic, and can teach my students more about it as necessary.

The materials I use include Suzuki(my favorite), String Builder, Laoureux, among others. I learned from a variety of materials in my lessons, and I find that great results come from using the best parts of multiple sources of materials.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The studio: lessons are taught in the living room. The student is expected to provide his or her own violin. Music stands are available. Parking is on the street.

Local Park: the lessons are in the community recreation center in a separate rehearsal room.

Seating is available at both locations.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide all printed materials, but I ask that my students to have their own violin.

Travis is a cheerful, talented tutor who never fails to provide great, practical and simple to follow lessons which additionally are always fun to participate in. He's remarkably positive, and already I feel as though I have come on in leaps and bounds doing things with the violin that would have taken me an age to learn by myself. I hope that I continue learning with Travis for a long time to come.

I just finished a series of online upright bass lessons with Dr. Norman. It's wonderful to have a lesson without toting the bass around town. Dr. Norman is impressive in skill and knowledge. There was nothing musically he didn't know, couldn't explain, or demonstrate on the bass. He has a keyboard at hand to play chords or emphasize a particular key, and he is proficient on that too. Dr. Norman is A++.

Music Theory, is the building blocks of understanding music. Depending on where the student is at with their understanding of the subject, I will focus on different aspects of the subject. Beginners will be taught how to read music, with skills such as note recognition. Intermediate students will start looking at chords, and analyzing the melodies and harmonies of music. Advanced students will be focusing on higher level analysis of chordal structures as well as composing. All students will be required to bring staff paper, and a pencil to lessons. Homework will be given, but it will not be an overwhelming amount at any time. The goal is to get my students to understand, and become comfortable with music theory, to optimize their musical experience regardless of their instrument, or composing styles.

Hi! I'm Eric, a Saxophonist, Composer, Singer, and Teacher that was born and raised in Southern California. I've been playing the saxophone for over ten years now, writing music for as long as I can remember, and singing since I was in elementary school. I play for a variety of groups in Los Angeles, and sometimes perform in L.A. and surrounding areas at venues such as the LightHouse, Saint Rocke, Avalon, and the Baked Potato.

I keep my lessons fun, efficient, and applicable. I give students assignments to work on, not only so they don't forget what we talk about, but also so they can also expand upon the concepts given in lessons, (which familiarizes them more with the information). I am an active composer, sound artist, audio engineer, and performer currently living and working in Los Angeles. I have been studying music for over 18 years in programs including the California Institute of the Arts, Rice University, the Amercian Conservatory in Fountainebleau, and the American Festival for the Arts. As a composer and musician, I have worked with incredible organizations and performers including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the wulf., Coaxial Arts, Art Share, M.A.R.S. Festival, and The Little Giant Chinese Instrument Orchestra. In my own work I work primarily in contemporary classical music, experimental music, sound art, and electronic music. I am experienced, however, with working with musicians with a wide range of interests which I work into my lessons.
