I enjoy teaching people what they want to learn. If they have specific interests, I will show them how to get the results they want. If a general musical education is desired, I will make suggestions as to what would be good for them. With over 35 years of teaching experience, I have found many different ways to communicate how and why the whole thing works on different levels.

I have been teaching acoustic guitar for the last 5 years. I can help you learn more about open/bar chords, finger picking, palm muting, scales, power chords, and soloing/improvisation. We can also work on learning your favorite tunes and maybe writing of some of your own! I am here to help you achieve your goals as a guitar player. I have been teaching acoustic guitar part time since 1972 and full time since 1998. From beginning level to advanced, I teach virtually all styles of music using flat picking and finger picking methods.

I have been a full-time professional guitarist/private teacher for over 32 years, assisting literally thousands of students to become the best guitarists they can be. I have played over 3,000 professional gigs in all styles of music in nightclubs, casinos, touring bands, studio recording gigs, restaurants, concerts, festivals, resort hotels, weddings, corporate functions and more (I went pro at age 16). I am also the author of four instructional guitar books with Mel Bay Publications.

As an original artist, acoustic guitar has been one of the most important iterations of the instrument in my life. I feel that my mastery over acoustic guitar is on par with my mastery on electric guitar and acoustic guitar is my preferred instrument to teach. As a professional gigging blues/rock/indy musician I have toured while playing all forms of acoustic genres and venues, from jazz to country.

I tailor each lesson to fit your individual needs and will get you strumming your favorite songs, reading music, taking soaring solos, or writing your own melodies while simultaneously deepening your understanding of the language of music. I believe in building music fundamentals while fostering a love of playing. My fun, imaginative, and age appropriate classes are just right for any budding musician! Each lesson is customized to get the individual student excited about music, that means playing songs they like and having fun while learning the essential techniques and developing musicality. I have extensive experience working with children 5-16 and adapt my teaching to promote success for each unique student.
