My specialty is in classical voice technique, whether that be for opera or art song. My formal training encompasses over 13 years.

About Belinda
*** Lesson Details ***
NOTE: I prefer to teach students ages 11 & up.  I will accommodate younger students, but as vocal development is a direct reflection of physical development (the instrument is the body), we will be unable to delve deeply into technique.  Instead, the curriculum for younger students will include musicianship and piano skills; they will be more of music lessons that incorporate singing rather than "vocal" lessons.  My current studio consists of all sorts of singers including classical, musical theater, R&B, and pop.  In classical voice lessons, we will be learning songs not only in English, but also Italian, German, and French. Classical voice lessons may not be for everyone, however, and we will learn repertoire that suits the interests of each student.

I emphasize a basic knowledge of music theory, because it
's important for a singer to not only know how to sing, but to also understand the music he or she is singing. I will incorporate music theory into the lessons, starting with basics such as learning how to read notes.

I believe in making sure the singer is comfortable and confident.  The environment you will be learning in is open and non-threatening because a singer needs a place to explore his or her voice.  I encourage my students to make mistakes and to keep the lines of communication as open as possible.  Singers are perfectionists, and we're constantly telling ourselves what we do wrong- we don't need someone else enforcing that negativity.

I concentrate on a classical vocal technique, with proper posture, efficient breathing, lack of facial and body tension, and healthy vocal production. I believe that it is important to have a strong foundation of healthy technique no matter what style of singing. My teaching style and lesson focus will be different for each individual person, and I'm very flexible in adapting to each singer's needs and personality.

I am a very understanding teacher, and very patient, but I will push you to work to your potential! What you put into these lessons and your practicing is what you will get out of it. I am not strict, but I do expect dedication, passion, and respect. I am a very enthusiastic and energetic teacher, and lessons with me will be fun, productive, and encouraging.

If I sound like the right teacher for you, please arrange a trial lesson to see how well we work together!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living room, piano, full-length mirror, comfortable seating for parents

*** Specialties ***
*Teachers classified as a Student Favorite have taught a minimum of 25 lessons and have received the highest feedback rating from students. I specialize in classical singing- applicable to any style of singing!

I'm delighted to write a review for Belinda. She's personable, professional and, just as important, very patient. As a beginner I found her explanation of proper breathing techniques extremely useful and an big step toward voice control. I would recommend Belinda without question for anyone hoping to make the transition from "wanting to sing" to "able to perform"! Two thumbs up!

I hold a master's in vocal performance from Cal State University, Fullerton and a Bachelor's in vocal performance from USC. I've been teaching voice for over 15 years. As a classical singer, I've had professional experience doing lead roles with various performing groups. This has taught me the level of expertise which is required in the real world of singing. In teaching classical singing, I focus on a breath-based technique where we focus on technical exercises designed to help you breathe more efficiently. We also work a lot on proper vowel formation and strive to eliminate excessive tension in your vocal instrument. Last but not least, we work on interpreting the music (musical phrasing, pronunciation, subtext). My goal is to help you become the best performer you can be. I encourage singers to take part in 2 studio recitals a year as well as various evaluations and competitions, depending on your own personal goals. I am a member of National Association of Teachers of Singing ...

About Shannon
I hold a master's in voice from CSUF and a double bachelor's in piano and voice from USC. With over 15 years of experience as a private voice and piano instructor I have had the privilege of helping many students achieve their musical goals. As a member of MTAC and NATS, I enter many students in Certificate of Merit, Student Evaluation Program, and other festivals. For pianists, I work on songs, scales, theory, ear training and sometimes improvisation. For singers, we work on breathing and resonance techniques and songs that reinforce good singing habits but that are also engaging for the singer. We also work on sight singing and theory.Though my training is largely in classical music, I do work on other styles with my students.

*** Lesson Details ***
For pianists, I recommend the Premier Alfred piano course, or for older beginners
/adults, we use Adult Piano Adventures. I also recommend purchasing a scale/technique book and a theory book.

For singers, please bring a recording device (phone is ok) so that you may later practice the exercises which we learn in the lesson.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a Yamaha baby grand piano as well as an electronic piano in my studio. For budding pianists, I offer instruction with Piano Maestro software.

I come from a background of not singing, and started singing late in life, when I started college. I understand how difficult it is to jump straight into singing and not know anything! I've been lucky to have experienced amazing and fun teachers that showed me that hard work is rewarding and can also be fun at the same time. Music is an expression of our soul and I love to communicate that to my students, showing them that singing goes above making sound, but it's an art form, and something to be proud of.

About Valentina
I have been singing professionally since 2014, and I've been teaching since 2016. I'm currently pursing my Bachelor of Music at the Bob Cole Conservatory in Long Beach with an emphasis in Vocal Performance. I love teaching all ages and levels, I'm very interested in getting to know your voice! I have a passion for vocal pedagogy and hope to help make you the best singer you can become.
