Tone deaf? Nope. I don't believe it. Pitch can be taught. If you think you can't carry a tune in a bucket, just try me! I think you'll be surprised. Ear training is a skill like any other and when you apply yourself and practice, it can be learned. It's also very rewarding! Suddenly you are singing in tune, everyone's eyebrows raise and you feel wonderful. Give it a try!

I have been lucky enough to study ear training with many different private teachers and at Cal State University Northridge. I teach based on each students needs, and have the tools and the know how to create the perfect lesson plan just for you. I specialize in harmonization and jazz ear training, with emphasis on transcribing.

As we all know, ear training can be tough. Being very experienced in this area, I will do my best to help the student and will teach specific techniques which will make the subject a lot easier.

I teach relative pitch training, interval training, and chord progression recognition, as well as major and minor chordal ear training. I think the best musicians are made of a combination of training and natural ability or science and creativity.
I teach sight-singing and improvisation on the piano, as well as music note recognition.

Ear training is the process of connecting music theory (notes, intervals, chords, scales, melodies, etc.) with the sounds we hear. In other words, studying ear training is building a bridge between the language of music and the sounds that are designated by that language.
The more we train our ear to recognize this connection, the better we get at playing music, because we learn to understand what we play and to anticipate musical structures.

As a graduate of the Mannes School of Music, I have an excellent background to teach and tutor all levels of ear training from basic rhythms harmonies to advanced atonal dictation. Students will receive on 1-on1 instruction in dictation, sight-singing, solfege and development of relative pitch. I possess absolute pitch and I have a keen ear to distinguish any errors in pitch that the student makes.
