About Matt
With most of my music students, we focus on several key areas to ensure success of overall technique and knowledge: WARM-UPs, SCALES, MUSIC THEORY, SIGHT-READING, and PREPARED SONGS. I tailor my approach and style to each student. Although I'm very detail-oriented with lessons and followup, I'm constantly in search of finding FUN ways to make sure the student is enjoying the journey. I also prefer to work on a song that the STUDENT wants to learn. It's music, and it should be fun!

Please review the rest of my profile and send me any questions or concerns you may have. If I don't think I can be the best teacher for you, I will gladly refer you to someone else on Takelessons or elsewhere.

I've been a lifelong musician, and love finding unique and fun ways to motivate my students. I've worked with most styles of music before,
and arranged music for many as well, so I'm very comfortable helping students with a variety of disciplines and interests. My professional experience in both the civilian and military music communities has given me an open-minded yet direct approach to WHAT you should learn, and HOW to develop each student's individual skills. I'm able to teach most students to an advanced level.

Matt is an exceptional musician. His knowledge of a variety of music genres, ability to sight read and transpose into any key is extraordinary and makes him the accompanist of choice. As a man of faith, he inspires others to celebrate music as a gift from God, that should never be taken for granted.

About Parinaz
Hello,

My name is Parinaz. I graduated from a top-rated high school as a top ranking student. At present, I am a biology major student at Irvine Valley College with 4.00 GPA, and my long-term goal is getting my doctorial degree in the healthcare field. Besides, I am a freelance Spanish, Persian, and belly dancer and choreography dances for different occasions and Irvine Valley College's dance showcases.

I love tutoring because I am experienced to simplify complex subjects and explain them to my peers and students in the most comprehensible way, so it could be never forgotten. Another reason to become tutor is gaining more experience and connecting with different students from different cultures and backgrounds. In addition, I possess my own unique methods of approaching a subject and understanding the details of the matter in the mo
st efficient manner. In my opinion, sharing our information and learning new things from each other is the most effective way of progressing in our academic and career life. Being a professional time manager in my life, has always helped me to assist my students not only to make progress in their subjects but also set up a productive schedule.

I have a very strong mathematical background when I was in elementary school untill now. The first important thing which many students struggle with is how to read and understand the problem. In order to solve any problems, students should put about 30 seconds to read the problem carefully. The next step is analyzing the problem and finding the appropriate concepts and formulas. The last step is how to apply your knowledge. This stepwise approach has always helped me to covey the most complex mathematical subjects to my students in a simple manner and easy language.

Helping students to foster a mathematical and hence analytical mind is my ambition. It is then we could develop an intelligent community which is self-reliant and self-driven. It would definitely give them some degree of liberation from the Monster called “Numbers”.

Furthermore, I am always curious about how different substances react with each other and how to carry out different laboratory projects. Therefore, my passion combines with my major and create a very good chemistry tutor. I can draw a clear picture and explain everything clearly in this field because I know how to simplify chemistry for students and help them to love this subject. Many students think chemistry is about memorization, but actually most of it is like a game that you should learn its tricks.

Understanding Chemistry would also help one to understand the chemical reaction in our surrounding environment including our own body. Life is all about how chemically the living cells react to each other, and how people could love or hate each other. Understanding these chemical reactions could definitely help the students to have a better life, and I am here to help you with the needed understanding.

I hope I can help my students to attain their goals and be successful in their academic and social lives.

I do not see teaching as simply repeating what has been already detailed in text books and lectures. Everyone’s mind is different and thus everyone has a unique perception to understanding one issue or another. Things are better illustrated with an example.

A while back, there was a television show hosted by a T.V. personality named Monty Hall. In the show, Monty presented a contestant with 3 closed doors. Behind one door was a new car. And behind each of the other two doors was a goat. The contestant had the option to choose one door so as to win the new car.

The probability that a car was behind door 1 or door 2 or door 3 was the same, about 33.33%. Let us say that the contestant picked door 1. Monty would then open one of the other two doors that were not chosen by the contestant. There were 3 terms in the game: 1) Monty knew what w
as behind each door; 2) Monty cannot open the door that was already chosen by the contestant; 3) Monty would only open a door that hides a goat.

Let us say Monty opened door 3 revealing a goat. Monty then asked the contestant if the contestant would like to switch to door 2 or keep his original choice of door 1. Contestants would be bewildered not knowing really what to do. Was it better to keep the originally choice or was it better to switch or it would make no difference whether to keep the original choice or switch?

Meet Marilyn vos Savant. Marilyn wrote a column called “Ask Marilyn” in a newspaper called Parade. Marilyn was known for having one of the highest recorded IQ. A reader sent Marilyn a letter asking her if it was better to switch or not to switch. Marilyn stated in her column that a contestant should switch since switching doubled the contestant’s chances of winning. Many of Marilyn’s readers erupted in protest including readers with Ph.D., mathematicians, and academicians. Most people believed that the probability that a car was behind door 1 or door 2 was the same of 50%.

This became known as The Monty Hall Problem or The Monty Hall Paradox. Articles and books were written over this problem. Actually Marilyn was right and this was proven using computer simulation. Yet until today many people cannot understand that switching doubles the chances of winning.

At first glance this paradox might seem irrelevant to teaching. But I think it does. This paradox tutor the mind in the subject of structured thinking which is very important in learning.

Hence, I think I am the best fit to teach French to other because I have lived most of my life in France. I went to elementary school and middle school in France; then on top of that I obtained my High school diploma in France.
