This is the focus of my vocal studio, and I began teaching in this style when I opened my voice studio in 2005. Curriculum will vary depending on your experience level with the subject and voice type. Technique is instructed from a variety of backgrounds, with basis in physiology of healthy voice production due to my combined background in classical vocal performance and voice therapy.
COVID has changed the singing game, and I like to believe that it opened the opportunity to sing to those who otherwise wouldn't try it. I hope more people find joy in these moments of isolation through creating music from their homes! I want to dispel the myth that only a select few are "gifted"
She's so good at explaining the most confusing things about singing technique (which for a beginner is a lot). She's very patient and it's heartwarming when she gets excited about the times I do something right. I trust Kristen with my voice and I like how she encourages me to do hard but fun repertoire. Would definitely recommend!
P.S. Her voice is absolutely beautiful. You know you have a good teacher when she demonstrates something and you think, "I want to sound like that."

As I needed to learn other languages, I can assist anyone whose native language is not English to become more proficient, improve their grammar, and gain better conversational skills. Thanks to my knowledge of other languages (and cultures), I am uniquely positioned to understand some of the English language's challenges.
One of my specialties is interview prep. I worked in IT, in marketing, and have an MBA, interviewed candidates and been interviewed myself - so I can share insights with my students. I also help edit resumes, and ask relevant questions about your professional journey...
I also hold "regular conversation," while I listen attentively to my student, and correct grammar and style.
Bonjour! Hello! Hallo! Yay! We can start in-person lessons again, as long as basic distancing is kept. I have been vaccinated and I would prefer my students to be vaccinated, too, but it's not a deal breaker. I teach several languages: French, German, and English for non-native English speaker
Master Of Music Voice Performance from Boston University College of Fine Arts
Teaches students 18 to 65
With a Master Of Music degree in Voice Performance from Boston University, I am passionate about helping each student discover his/her unique voice. A student of the esteemed operatic soprano, Phyllis Curtin, my pedagogy is founded on the principles of classical bel canto technique. With strong emphasis on maintenance of a coordinated singing posture and fully supported diaphragmatic breathing, my teaching allows most students to see improvements in ease and beauty of tone within two lessons.
I do believe that time spent outside of one's lessons applying the technique in private practice is THE MOST important building block to mastery of one's voice. I encourage all students to record their lessons for use in their private practice. Objectively listening to yourself and developing a discriminating ear for your sound is essential to successful development.
In addition to teaching, I am a busy performer in the San Francisco Bay Area, providing the singing voice for celebrated drag ...
Let's make some joyful noise together! Singing beautifully is one of the most freeing and gratifying experiences one can have. I grew up singing in church, my local high school music program and community choral organizations. So singing is a fundamental part of my personal history and experience. M
