About Nicolas
Hello there!

I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and raised in Miami, FL. I started my musical career at the age of 8, singing in chorus, playing the recorder, and shortly afterwards moving to the guitar, and the violin.

When I was 15, I was nominated for a James L. Knight Award in Music, and I performed as a violin soloist with the Miami Beach Symphony Orchestra, and the Greater Miami Youth Symphony playing Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3 in G major. One of my most memorable experiences when I was a kid! In high school, I formed my own string quartet and we would perform all over
the South Florida community especially at hospitals and for the elderly. At 16 years old, I was also given an internship with the New World Symphony, conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas, for about 2 years. During this time, I was able to take lessons from master violinists such as Marc Thayer and Glen Cherry. During this time, I was given the opportunity to perform with the New World Symphony at 17 years old for pops concert conducted and performed by Chuck Mangione in El Doral, FL.

I later on accepted a scholarship for violin performance at the University of Miami for my Bachelor of Music, and earned my Master of Music from Florida State University. I also taught string orchestras for 10 years at Ruth K. Broad Bay Harbor K-8 Center, South Florida Youth Symphony as conductor (and now composer!), and conductor of the Greater Miami Youth Symphony. I was appointed Assistant Conductor of the Alhambra Orchestra for two seasons under the guidance of my high school orchestra teacher, Mr. Reginald Nicholson (1947-2011). It was here where I was able to work on my compositions, orchestrations, and conduct a fine group of musicians.

I now live in sunny Los Angeles, in the Sherman Oaks area, and I'm loving the new change. I am eager to share my knowledge with new students on various subjects such as learning a string instrument to learning a different language. Please feel free to ask me any questions.

I am looking forward to getting to know you and your goals for learning!

LESSON DETAILS
I have been teaching music as an adult, certified teacher since I was in college, but have done teaching as early as 15 years old.

I will help you create a fantastic technical base so you will be able to play with ease as your skill level develops, all while keeping the lessons fun and engaging.

MUSIC STUDIO
Piano, Violin, Guitar, Music Stand, General Teaching Aids, Recording Equipment.

TRAVEL EQUIPMENT
I can provide a music stand and basic materials but the student is expected to have their own instruments and to buy the music I recommend. I can recommend various vendors/shops where you can buy the ideal instrument for your lessons.

EXPERTISE
I am classically-trained musician that also specializes in Tango performance, Latin/Jazz, Rock, and a variety of other styles. I believe that training in the classical aesthetic will create a firm, solid foundation to crossover into other areas listed above. With a good dose of technical exercises, scales, and a variety of repertoire, my students always turn out well-rounded, ready to tackle almost any kind of music they wish to learn.

Thank you for stopping by and let me know what you would like to learn!

Nick has been my nine-year old daughter's violin instructor for a little over a year. Not only has she made tremendous progress with her playing, she has had a great time during the lessons. Nick will challenge her when he feels she is ready, but will also slow down if necessary to review, to make sure she is using proper techniques and developing as a musician. My daughter is fortunate to have such a talented musician and composer as her violin teacher.

About Erol
***AREAS NORTH OF CENTRAL SANTA CLARITA ARE DIFFICULT TO SERVICE PHYSICALLY/ ADDRESSES WITHIN REMOTE AREAS (no public transit or bicycle access) DIFFICULT TO SERVICE PHYSICALLY***

My style and attitude toward teaching tends to be conversational, reflective, and interactive, along the lines of current research on effective education. I have developed a talent with certain creative arts, such as imaginative writing and electronic music production; as a result, I am computer literate, capable of assisting with computer assembly, maintenance, and design, as well as productivity software. Due to
my limited funds, I do not have direct experience with the Adobe suite, but I have extensive knowledge of related, free distributions that are transferable. I also have formal education in the field of English, innovative leadership, and Education. My current level is ABD in a PhD program. I am almost done.

My most popular subjects are as follows:

American-English Pronunciation Practice (ESL):
*****Each Online Lesson with Free Video & MP3 Recording*****

Carefully following Burkkowsky's (1969) multi-media method, I have taught this subject for over five years for public and private causes, such as library, individuals, and language schools. My emphasis for pronunciation is a scientific, comprehensive overview and treatment of the various sounds, rhythms, inflections, and patterns the spoken language integrates. I encourage practicing and mastering both the sounds themselves, as well as how the sounds are connected and contextualized. I use contemporary sound recording and .wav editing software to involve audio feedback and self-monitoring.

Sources: Burkkowsky, Mitchess (1969) Teaching American Pronunciation to Foreign Students. New York: Warren Green, 1969.

German Language and Culture:
*****Each Online Lesson with Free Video & MP3 Recording*****

I have grown up bilingual English and German, attending an international school from a very young age. I attended, also, a German public secondary school, where I earned a diploma, and I completed college-level German credits. I taught German in the language lab of a community college, for special needs students, and for private agencies, such as Tutor Doctor. My emphasis is on a comparative introduction of the language to draw out a common ground and familiarize possibly daunting differences. I also enjoy asserting that German is often underestimated as a rewarding second language to study.

Microsoft Excel:
***It is recommended students own or have regular access to a personal computer after 2002 in order to get the best benefit***

This spreadsheet and data management software program is of crucial, pivotal importance in any business and financial environment. The program enables efficient and prompt development of arithmetic and statistical calculations of vast data sets. It also helps to visualize and juxtapose related or even discrepant variables. My approach to teaching the program is cumulative and holistic, starting with an introduction to personal inventory management to the processing of large data sets using pivot tables, charts, and dashboards. My emphasis is on making the program as intelligible and transparent as possible to avoid frustration and intimidation. I use a lot of examples and visuals that are readily available.

Typing:
***It is recommended students own or have regular access to a personal computer after 2002 in order to get the best benefit***

I teach the touch-typing method that is the convention for most journalistic and input-intensive organizational settings. I teach the home row, proper finger and hand positions, proficiency with left and right hands, as well as posture and concentration methods. I enrich the teaching with resources from the web, such as speed-building and error reduction.

Erol was helpful and knowledgable on the concepts I needed to learn. I wanted to start classes earlier than he had for availability but he made it work and did 3 consecutive days like I wanted. There wasn't a rush on time and he was very flexible in order to make sure I understood the base concepts I needed, which were a few skills related to marketing reporting. Thanks Erol!

Alexa is a great teacher! She has taught me all about auditioning and how it works. She brought scripts to practice with each other and gave the class many tips about acting with another actor or alone in front of a camera and casting director. She's also given a lot of advice about how to start a career in acting and is very supportive. It was really fun and her class helped me figure out that I have a passion for acting. It was a remarkable experience!

Jon provides awesome training tips as well as fitness and nutrition information to me via our phone sessions. He is very encouraging, supportive and enthusiastic about helping me reach my goals and that really helps keep me motivated and on track as well. He gives me a detailed description of the exercises I should perform on a weekly basis in order to improve my endurance, increase my strength, burn fat and gain muscle. He also explains crucial health and wellness components such as the importance of staying hydrated, timing meals for ideal metabolic results, what foods to eat for weight loss and so much more. The time Jon spent with me has been truly invaluable and helped me get in the best shape of my life. I would highly recommend Jons services to anyone and I definitely look forward to continuing to work with him
