About Justin

I understand that there are many desires a pupil can have about learning music, especially towards the practicality of the modern world and I hope to gear the student towards that. I have worked with children for almost a decade so I am comfortable with youth education. My experience with working with children is mostly with the Boy Scouts of America since I was 14. From teaching scouts about nature, to directing shooting ranges as an NRA Rifle Safety Officer, to eventually managing a camp. As a young adult who has just finished their music degree from collage and working to further my education, I can understand the process of learning a musical instrument and guide the student on a smoother path to their goals. *** Lesson Details *** When taking lessons with me, you can expect ...

Justin is a natural teacher!!

I had a great experience learning under Justin's guidance. He really took the time to learn how much understanding I had of my instrument before he started teaching, so he knew exactly what I needed more work on. I can see he definitely tailors lessons for each individual student's needs. He was patient and introduced new ways of learning that really helped me grasp the material. Although he sticks to a general lesson-plan for each session, he gave me plenty of freedom to play around and jam. I would recommend him to anybody, and have already referred him to some friends. If you're looking for a professional, yet fun and relaxed teacher, you've found him!

Heather was the best instructor we could have had for our granddaughters Audition Prep for her High School Arts Program. My granddaughter was very comfortable working with her and learned so much from Heather. I would definitely recommend her for any type of voice lessons. She is very knowledgeable.

About Susan

I was a piano major at UNI and received a B.A. in English with a minor in music. I taught music for several years in Iowa and Pennsylvania. I have an M.A. in Reading, which has been invaluable in analyzing learning styles and teaching to each student's strengths. I have been teaching piano for over twenty five years and I'm also active in church music. *** Lesson Details *** I focus on learning the foundations of music as well as the technical skills needed to play piano. I gear the instruction towards finding patterns that make a piece more than a collection of notes and, thus, easier to learn. Attentive Instructon

I am an adult student and have taken lessons in the past and am starting again. I have enjoyed the personal and attentive instruction given. Susan sits right by the piano and watches every movement. Teachers I have had in the past have not done this. She provides supplemental material that I need. She is always very friendly, kind, patient and has a great deal of professional knowledge. I would recommend her to anyone.

Confidently instills a love for piano!

I could not have asked for a better first piano teacher for my five year old! Miss Susan challenges Hailey just enough to keep her focused but not overwhelmed. Miss Susan has a calm, confident way of teaching that would put any child at ease and ready to learn! We are less than a month into lessons and Hailey will go to the piano at home, without any prompting, and play through her lesson book. The combination of a smart little girl and a good teacher have started a love for piano playing !
Joshua B. Fairfax, VA

About Joshua

Joshua began his teaching career as a graduate teaching assistant (TA) while pursuing his Master's degree at Florida State University. As a TA he taught voice lessons to undergraduate students, preparing them for auditions, recitals, and end of the term juries. Since graduating from FSU, Joshua has maintained a dynamic private vocal studio. Offering lessons to students from diverse backgrounds and varying levels of experience, utilizing a very personal approach to each student, tailoring lessons to meet each individuals needs. Under the belief that a solid vocal technique is the key to great singing, he begins from the ground up, addressing each aspect of singing, including the alignment of the body while singing, the inhale of the breath, the management of the breath while singing, and ...

I just love working with Josh. He knows his stuff and at the same time is fun to work with. He knows technique and anatomy, so he's able to describe all the details of what your air, tongue, palate, etc. should be doing. I never knew how much was involved in singing!
Plus he's always striving to find new and innovative ways to teach. He is not just an excellent singer who assumes he can pass it on, he really cares about the best way to help you improve.
Another thing I really appreciate is that Josh holds you to high standard. He insists on quality, but that means when he says you got it right, you know you really nailed it! Through it all his vibrant and warm personality shines through.

A week after my first lesson with Joshua, people in the congregation of my church where I sang, expressed their amazement at the progress I had made. Two years later, I can reach high octaves, sing with confidence and do things with my voice I never dreamed I would be capable of doing. I am older than most of Joshua’s students and have a different background from them (in non-Western music). Yet one of his greatest gifts Joshua has is his sensitivity, creativity and ability to understand and truly connect with people. Instead of a rigid, "one-size-fits-all” method, he creates flexible and unique approaches that fit the personality and learning style of each individual student. At the same time, the depth and rigor of his approach are unparalleled. What has been a source of excitement and progress for me is his patience and the seriousness of his approach. He treats me—not as someone who never took herself seriously as a singer—but as if I were an accomplished opera singer with global reputation. He lingers on phrases or words to correct enunciation; bring out nuances of interpretation or explain the relationship between physical and musical elements in a sound and work patiently with me until I can do it right. Originally I thought I would take a few basic singing lessons for 3-6 months but I have been getting so much out of studying with Joshua that it has been over two years now and I can’t even foresee an end. Every single lesson is a discovery of a new level of clarity and singing ability and every single week represents progress over the previous week.
Megan A. Fairfax, VA

About Megan

I grew up on Long Island New York and am currently finishing up my music education degree at George Mason University. I have been playing flute for 13 years now and it's time I share my experience and love for music with others! To me, music is an outlet and it's important that my students fall in love with music while also learning about it. Music has always been a driving force in my life and one of the greatest things I've been involved in. I hope to give my students the same opportunities I have had and make music an important part of their lives as well. A typical lesson with me will be structured like this: Emphasis on basics (scales, studies, tuning, etc) Sight Reading and Ear Training Learning techniques through pieces I had a lot ...

Megan is an outstanding teacher. She is a flute player but has done a great job teaching introductory trumpet to my 6th grade daughter. Megan is always on time and keeps my daughter busy throughout the whole hour of her lesson - she does not fool around! And my daughter loves her and is engaged the whole time. Oh, and she's gotten up to speed on the trumpet (after two years on violin.)
I highly recommend Megan for lessons on any of the instruments she teaches.

Megan has been a colleague and musical partner of mine for over 7 years. Megan has a unique ability to positively connect with her students at all age and skill levels.

As a truly talented Flautist, Megan will provide you with a wealth of knowledge and expertise on playing flute. I've had the pleasure of performing as well as teaching with Megan and she is a valuable asset to any Music program.
