Emma M. Cypress, CA

I offer preparation to the ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) examinations.

About Emma

I started my music education at the age of 7, at the Odessa College of Music in Ukraine. At age 16 I was accepted to the highly prestigious Odessa University of Music, where later I received my BA degree in Piano Pedagogy and Performance, Summa Cum Laude. I then decided to further my education and take a 2 year Piano Performance course at the Odessa Conservatory. For over 25 years thereafter, I am teaching students of all ages. I look to develop problem solving, multitasking and other intangible life skills for my younger students through the power of music. For my adult students, I look to reduce stress and keep their brains working like new. Regardless of age, I work very hard to improve all of my student's memory, brain function, coordination and most importantly teach them how to ...

We love Ms. Emma! My boys have been taking lessons with Ms. Emma for over a year. Ms. Emma is so patient, yet firm with them. She understands their very different personalities and adapts lessons to their differing personalities, styles, and needs. She appreciates their individuality and works from there. As a result, they have learned so much! Thank you Ms. Emma!

A great piano teacher is the key to success - at any age.

It is with great pleasure that I review my piano teacher of one year, Emma M. I took a few months lessons at age 7 and a few months in my teens and again in my 20s. After being separated from a piano for 30 years, I knew I had to get back to the music I always yearned to play. I searched TakeLessons.com for a piano teacher, and Emma M.'s resume caught my attention. Emma M. understands the adult learner. She helps me focus on what is important as an adult learning to play piano. Emma helps me to set goals, and she focuses my lessons on those goals. Emma M. is a professional educator who understands the human condition, and she puts her knowledge to practice. I am grateful to have found a knowledgeable, dedicated, encouraging, and motivating teacher in Emma M. I feel I have progressed, and I look forward to many more years of learning piano with Emma M.

Ian B. La Mirada, CA

It's not as "black and white" as people think. I'll show you how to hit the right keys in the right order, and then I'll show you the nuances of becoming the "piano man."

About Ian

I am a pianist. I am also a keyboardist, programmer, and music producer. But the title I probably most identify with is "composer." I realized early on that my own passion for performing was fueled by my hunger to actually CREATE music. So I set out to learn from the masters. I won competitions and scholarships in high school, then double-majored in piano and composition at the University of Kansas where I obtained my bachelor's degree before going on to record, write, and produce rock & electronic dance music. I love being a CREATOR of music; and that love just extends quite naturally into the collaborative creative process we have come to know as "œteaching." There is no greater joy than creating music...except maybe seeing someone else I have trained and inspired create something ...

Athena has been extremely helpful and understanding about the physical impediments regarding my lessons (arthritis, or something like it). She is also great at giving me tools to figure things out for myself. She encourages rather than discourages, and helps motivate you by making the things you are interested in a part of the program. So far I am very happy with her and feel like I might actually be able to make this happen.

I am looking for students ages 5 and up (including adult students of any age), ranging from a beginner to late intermediate level. I provide instruction mainly in repertoire and technique, with theory as necessary (and as desired). I can also provide (and encourage) instruction in aural skills (ear training).
