Ed R.

Norristown, PA

About Ed

Hi, My name is Ed and listed in the different sections of this page are: a very brief bio, an explanation of my approach, and a description of what I and my studio have to offer. I am extremely enthusiastic and passionate about what I do, and being able to pass that on is a joy. Please read on, and I hope to hear from you soon!

I have 16 years teaching experience as well as extensive playing and touring experience in all styles and genres, which gives me the insight to know what is most important for really playing the instrument.
I attended Bucks County Community College and West Chester
University. I also studied privately with
Ken Miller (Philly Pops Orchestra tympanist), John Alberti and Martin Bradfield.

I am currently a member of The Chuck Anderson Trio on the Dreambox Media Label. I am also a member of five other bands and freelance and record with many others...everyone from former members of Bon Jovi, to Marvin Hamlisch, and some completely unexpected names like Joe Frazier And The Knockouts. Yes, I know, that's pretty amusing, and Joe couldn't sing...but I wasn't going to tell him!

I have an extensive collection of books and videos that I draw from for my students, and to personally improve at my craft. This is not a sideline, or part-time job for me...this is my life, and my career!

*** Lesson Details ***
In my lessons I strive to make the maximum progress possible, while also having as much fun as possible. This is accomplished by imparting the most valuable, useful, and beneficial information in a fun and relaxed, low pressure environment, always with the students goals and priorities first and foremost. I also like to keep the student challenged at their current ability level.

For beginning students I stress basic fundamentals, just as you would in sports. It makes progress come at a much faster clip and avoids making time consuming corrections later. The longer you play with bad habits, the harder they are to break.

For more advanced students, I assess their current abilities, determine if any problems need to be addressed, and with their goals in mind, come up with the proper plan of action.

Having been self taught till entering college I understand all ends of the spectrum. In my career I have come across three separate groups of musicians:

1) Those who have good ears, but can't read.
2) Those who read well, but can't play without music in front of them.
3) Those with great ears who also read well.

Number 3 is obviously the best of all possible worlds and what I strive to achieve with all my students. Being accomplished in both areas enables them to be prepared for anything they will come across, and gives them a distinct advantage over their peers.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a state of the art drum studio, beyond anything else I have ever seen, with everything from a top of the line V-Drum kit (electronic drums) and several acoustic sets that I rotate occasionally to keep interest level high. As opposed to many stores, schools and homes...there are no sax players in the next studio, no guitars blaring, no kids running around, no distractions! We only hear what we want to hear! It's so much easier to maintain focus on the task at hand.

One of the pluses of the electronic set is when a student is playing along with music, we can just plug an iPod, Kindle, whatever, into the system, dial in the perfect matching volume between music and drums...and not go deaf. No muss, no fuss, no headphones needed, unless the student wants them...I have plenty.

I am in my own building, so unlike many of the shoebox sized studios i have worked in, I have a lot of space (17'x22'), a waiting area for parents, and since it's one open area, if parents come in the building they are sitting in on the lesson. There is ample parking and I am conveniently located near a major intersection, and right next to a major shopping center (Wal-Mart, Staples. Weiss Supermarket, Pep Boys, etc.). In fact many parents go shopping while their children are taking their lessons. Some even walk! I'm that close.

I am also a Certified Plus drum dealer, so if students need some equipment, we can usually handle that too.

*** Specialties ***
I adapt my style to each student and usually hand write everything for quite awhile. There's a lot to cover and it enables me to break from standard procedure when beneficial. I play and teach all styles and genres, so I feel comfortable with pretty much everything.
I use numerous books for many different purposes well beyond the scope of what's listed below.

My son has been taking lessons with Ed since he was 5. Ed was very patient dealing with a high energy child who had a limited attention span. Eight years later, we are still seeing Ed weekly for lessons and my son has turned into a well-rounded musician. Ed tailors the lessons to my son's musical interests and takes an interest in what is going on in his life.

We have gone to see Ed perform in several venues and he always takes the time to talk to us during his break. I highly recommend Drum Lessons with Ed for those at any skill level.

About Adam

I have been passionate about music all of my life. I have been teaching guitar and piano for 9 years. I'm a doctoral student at Chestnut Hill College pursuing a degree in clinical psychology with plans to become a music therapist. I learned guitar and classical piano under 2 private teachers while pursuing my Psychology degree and music minor at Rutgers University in NJ.

Music was a way for me to find peace, structure, confidence, and an outlet for personal expression and creativity outside of my everyday life. I've grown as a person and a musician through music. I get excited when I see
my students learn enjoy playing something new. I love music more than anything else and that love is something I try to bring out in my students. Once there is love for music, everything grows naturally. I teach to help my students find those strengths in themselves to live a fulfilling life through their instrument.

***Lesson Details***

We create daily, weekly, and monthly goals for you to achieve.

Guitar: After 3 to 6 months of learning with me, you will have a basic knowledge of chords, how to read musical notation, strum to play. Most importantly, you will have learned 3 or 4 songs of your choice so that you can experience the joy of expressing yourself through music.
To achieve these results, you must be willing to practice 20-30 minutes a day.

I specialize in teaching students to learn to play by ear and improvise songs based on their tastes, style, and ability level. I also walk students through how to write and record semi-professional quality songs with drums, vocals, guitar, and piano. Music genres I cover are mainly Pop, Pop/Rock, Folk, Blues Rock, Classic Rock, Alternative, and Classical (piano only)

*** Studio Equipment ***

I provide a comfortable, quiet room with live instruments, and playback and recording equipment. I expect students to bring a guitar, books, sheet music, picks, and a tuner.
1. Taylor Acoustic Guitar
--picks, tuner, and capo
2. Fender Stratocaster Electric Guitar
-- Marshall 100W Amplifier
-- Classic Cry Baby Wah Effects Pedal
3. Casio PX-310 Weighted 88-Key Piano Keyboard

Playback and Recording:
1. MacBook Pro OSX 10.10.3 13-inch screen
- Insignia 27W Speakers with subwoofer
- Garageband
2. Steinberg UR-22 Recording Interface
3. Audio-technica M30 Headphones
4. Sterling Audio ST51 Black Condenser Microphone

*** Travel Equipment *** (same as above except for piano)

Adam has been coming to our home for almost 2 years to teach my 13 y.o. son and 12 y.o. daughter guitar. It has been a wonderful experience for all. Adam has a cool temperament and is quite patient. He has really made the whole learning experience rewarding and enjoyable for the kids. It is apparent that they have been growing as guitarists. Adam is highly recommended as an instructor.

I am a technology geek who could easily spend 24/7 in front of a computer. I was looking for an excuse to step outside of my zone, and Adam has taught me how to find peace and relax via music. I would highly recommend Adam!

Adam is a GREAT instructor and I've been having a lot of fun learning piano with him. He really focuses on what it is you want to get out of your lessons and what you want to learn. I had some background with piano from childhood but Adam's taught me some music theory fundamentals that I hadn't learned before. Getting a lot out of it and highly recommend.

About Tanesha

Hello Everyone!

My First Lesson is free

If you are under the age of 18, please have a parent or guardian book the lessons for you or at least notify them before you book lessons with me.

Hello, My name is Tanesha. I have been playing guitar for a little over 7 years now. I am a self taught guitarist. Guitars have always been a passion of mine. I was always drawn to learn more on guitars and one day decided to teach myself. I wanted to teach myself to play so that I can develop my own teaching style, as well as my own methods of teaching. When you are an absolute beginner and y
ou look to learn from other people, their way of teaching can be a little challenging. But with my teaching style it is more broken down. I understand the struggles and difficulties that comes with learning guitar, that's; why I am here to break it down and teach as clearly as possible. I am a very caring person, I love to help others and love to see them improve daily. My main goal is for all of my students to learn and benefit from my teaching.

I feel privileged to be able to write this review. David was my son Sunil's saxophone instructor throughout middle and high school, and his supporter through college. Under David's expert instruction Sunil earned the award for Pennsylvania All State Musician in alto sax as a high school senior. In addition to David's incredible expertise in performance music and his high level teaching skills, he is a very generous and patient and caring person. Over the course of years David became a true friend to Sunil, and to our whole family. I would recommend David to any music student unconditionally.

David Blumberg is an awesome musician and teacher who truly wants his students to shine! He taught my daughter at his location in High School, and via Skype once she advanced to college. David fostered my daughter's love of the clarinet and helped her to improve and accomplish her musical goals. Whether the goal was to make District Band in High School, to successfully audition in college, or to improve sound & technique, David Blumberg has provided motivation and technical expertise!

Dave is unquestionably the best teacher I have ever had in the 60+ years that I have been playing the clarinet. Although I had been away from playing for some time, Dave provided gentle advice and direction that has significantly improved my technique, tone, and musicianship as well as my confidence as a clarinetist. Dave is able to establish a great rapport with his students both mature and young. He understands their needs and goals and helps them achieve those goals. Thanks to Dave's encouragement and help, I was recently accepted as a member of a fine regional symphonic band. Above all, a lesson with Dave is not only instructive--it's also fun.

About Amber

Hi there! My name is Amber, and I've been playing piano since the age of 5. I loved taking lessons as a kid and always felt that music was an escape from life's daily stresses. I recently began playing regularly again after purchasing a full-sized, modern keyboard and am excited to pass on my knowledge to children beginning to play.

I graduated from Villanova University with a degree in Finance and work full-time in addition to teaching lessons. My teaching style focuses on creating an environment that builds confidence while having fun. My goal is for your child to want to learn and to fe
el rewarded each time he/she masters a new song.

I look forward to meeting you and your child!

How to Tune Your Violin: Online Violin Tuners & Resources
As most violin teachers and prestigious musicians would agree, maintaining your musical instrument should have as much attention directed toward it as caring for the family pet.  Although your dog or cat doesn’t need regular tuning, your violin certainly does - or your playing skills won’t be popular with family or neighbors! 3 Handy Open Mic Tips for Guitarists' Eyes Only

Performing (like songwriting) is a craft at which any dedicated musician can excel. It requires no prerequisites – only the desire to share your talent and creations.
