Joshua L. Glen Burnie, MD

About Joshua

I am an active musician in the Baltimore and Washington area working as a pianist, guitarist, producer, and composer. I am a music director at two churches and spend time gigging, writing, and teaching. I graduated from the university of the arts with a degree in music performance performing in different ensembles from Latin jazz to the school's production of "Porgy and Bess." I have been teaching students of all ages for 3 years now and love working with children. Not only will students learn to read music but will get a great sense of rhythm, balanced theory, and even songwriting for those interested. *** Lesson Details *** Music is a universal language that I believe anyone can get a basic understanding for. I cater my lessons to the individual needs of the student. I am laid back

Taryn K. Baltimore, MD

About Taryn

I am a University of Hawaii Piano Performance Major with a training emphasis in classical piano. I have taken multiple AMEB piano examinations, as well as performed in various recitals, culminating in an undergraduate music certification. I have been playing for 17 years, working with a variety of musical and performance styles, including individual performance, accompaniment, and musical collaboration. These experiences have given me the skills to tackle and communicate musical themes and ideas to students with a range of learning styles and needs, from beginning to advanced, classical to leisure. *** Lesson Details *** My teaching style is very dependent upon the need of the individual student. I believe that each person learns differently, and different people require unique ...

Taryn has done a great job teaching our 5.5 year old boy who loves music, but has lots of energy. She is patient and persistent with great teaching skills. She has been flexible with timing when we needed it. She uses the Faber and Faber My First Piano Adventure which is an excellent set of books for the pre-reader and early reader and also very affordable. We appreciate Taryn setting our son's musical foundation.

Taryn is responsive to my objectives and brings creativity to the task.

I'm a guitarist with 35 years of semi-pro and professional experience, with the ability to sub on simple keyboards parts. I chose Taryn from the available group of piano teachers because of her classical training. Her background is important because my goal is to acquire correct technique and become proficient at sightreading. Taryn understands that an adult student, especially one with previous performing experience, brings a perspective that's different from a child's, or from an adult with no previous experience. She communicates well and is appropriately flexible when required, but firm in her adherence to teaching the fundamentals that will help me accomplish my goals.
Jacob K. Baltimore, MD

About Jacob

My name is Jacob and I have played guitar professionally in Baltimore and Northern Virginia for the past four years. I specialize in jazz and funk guitar but I also have extensive experience playing rock, Latin, blues, and have even been developing the ability to play classical with a pick. I graduated from Goucher College in 2011 with a degree in Music Performance and Jazz Studies. Whether its understanding music theory and composition, learning how to improvise in different stylistic contexts, developing chops, playing with other musicians, or simply plugging in and playing your favorite songs at a volume your neighbors won't appreciate- I can help! *** Lesson Details *** I consider myself to be a fairly laid back teacher. I understand people have busy schedules and the last thing

First rate, easygoing instructor

Jake is great. I have had five lessons to date and have enjoyed our time together immensely. We have a great balance between fundamentals and just playing. I look forward to our next round of sessions.

Further, I was a bit hesitant about finding an instructor online--and I am delighted to be proved wrong. This whole process from web site to a clearly competent instructor in Jake has made this very easy and comfortable.
Belinda L. Baltimore, MD

About Belinda

*** Lesson Details *** NOTE: I prefer to teach students ages 11 & up.  I will accommodate younger students, but as vocal development is a direct reflection of physical development (the instrument is the body), we will be unable to delve deeply into technique.  Instead, the curriculum for younger students will include musicianship and piano skills; they will be more of music lessons that incorporate singing rather than "vocal" lessons.  My current studio consists of all sorts of singers including classical, musical theater, R&B, and pop.  In classical voice lessons, we will be learning songs not only in English, but also Italian, German, and French. Classical voice lessons may not be for everyone, however, and we will learn repertoire that suits the interests of each student. I ...

I have been working with Belinda for a little over 2 years. Every lesson, she challenges me to be better than before. What I love most about her style, is she customizes her style of teaching for the student. I am a very imagery oriented person, and she always helps me to visualize things in ways that makes sense to me. My singing has dramatically improved during my time with Belinda, and I would recommend her to anyone in a heart beat. Every lesson is different, every lesson is challenging in a new way, and every time I walk away feeling like that was the best lesson I've ever had. Thank you Belinda!!

Began playing piano at the age of four, Grace has been maintaining a piano studio with students of all ages and levels of ability for the past several years. Currently, Grace is currently pursuing her Doctoral of Musical Arts degree at Peabody Institute. *** Lesson Details *** During the first lesson, I will discuss with the student about their personal goal. I would like to see what the students have been working on and I will suggest materials that will help the students to develop their musicianship. My lessons are usually pretty laid back. Grace Is Tops!

By the end of May, I will have been working with Grace for six months. During that time, I have learned so much! I now feel I understand how to attack a new piano piece, and I am slowly gaining skill in executing it. My love for the instrument has simply skyrocketed!

Grace has an amazing skill set. Not only does she possess expert knowledge of the piano, but she exhibits that unique ability to convey her knowledge to others, in a straightforward, engaging, and often humorous manner.

Each lesson fires me to learn more and more, and I am very happy with the results!

Zack is one of the best teacher/performers I know. He understands the voice inside and out, and combines clear practical teaching with a holistic, whole-body approach to performing. I would highly recommend him to anyone serious about becoming a better singer.
