I am a professional Saxophonist, but play some clarinet as well.
I am by no means a professional clarinetist, but can definitely perform & teach up to an intermediate level.
I've been performing for 20 years on clarinet. It's the first instrument I learned. I've done everything on clarinet, from jazz band to orchestras
I took up clarinet several years ago and have done some writing and recording for clarinet. I'm happy to offer my skills and to work with novice players on proper fingering and technique, embouchure, music notation reading and theory, phrasing, and musicality.
For beginning students who are children, I like to start with either the Rubank Elementary Method or Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, as I find these provide a strong foundation in proper technique and sound, and reading music. As we move through this method, I will introduce exercises to help the student further develop a good sound on their instrument. At the same time, we will also begin to play solo and duet repertoire. I enjoy playing with students as a way to help them hear proper sound and technique and also develop listening and ensemble skills. For adults, I tailor the lessons to more specific styles of music they may be interested in learning, while also developing sound and technique according to their ability level. A specialty of mine on clarinet is klezmer, a beautiful genre of music that features that clarinet.
Specializing in saxophone, clarinet, flute and piano, I have experience in both public and private after-school programs, as well as in-home lessons settings. My formal music training began at the age of five in Vilnius Lithuania with the famous Vladimir Tchekassin. Since then, I have excelled in my saxophone studies at the Vilnius Conservatory and at the Music Academy in Cologne Germany while pursuing an active performing career. Most recently, in 2005, I followed my passion for teaching music by completing an advanced Instructor program in Instrumental Pedagogy at the Music Academy in Cologne.
