*** Lesson Details ***
In addition to the fundamentals (Tone, Rhythm, Technique, Ear-Training, Sight-Reading), I also like to tie-in music theory, composition, and improvisation along the way. I believe in setting short-term, mid-term, and long-term goals that are specific to the student and their needs and wants. I also believe in the benefit of having the student bring in songs or materials that they are interested in, and designing lessons around their interests. I am patient, creative, and willing to move at any pace that is right for you.

Through my experience as an educator I understand that every student is different, and therefore, my job is to guide and facilitate learning, while making the process as enjoyable as possible! My approach is customized to bring out your strengths and interests, while also ensuring that you have a solid foundation on your instrument. In addition, I am professionally trained in both jazz & classical music, and I perform regularly with working bands of all types and genres.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music room w/ drum set, piano, guitars, clarinet, sax, flute, amps, seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students are expected to have an instrument, and eventually selected method-books which will be decided upon for each student based on their needs, goals, or level.

*** Specialties ***
I teach all levels of students, from beginner to professional levels of all ages.

Skills and teaching techniques vary specifically per individual, but may include saxophone technique (technical facility, tone, scales, overtones), improvisation (jazz as well as other styles), sight reading, music theory, ear training, transcription, composition, and repertoire development in all styles of music (jazz, classical, pop, funk, world, etc.)

I've worked with Lynn for going on three years now and she has without a doubt been one of the most talented and most enjoyable people to make music with that I've ever encountered. Not only does she rock the sax better than most, she's extremely humble and approaches music with an openness and extremely positive energy. I give her my highest recommendation as a great teacher, and a great human being.

Gio A.

New York, NY

I took up clarinet several years ago and have done some writing and recording for clarinet. I'm happy to offer my skills and to work with novice players on proper fingering and technique, embouchure, music notation reading and theory, phrasing, and musicality.

About Gio

I studied music at UCF (Orlando), focusing on classical and jazz guitar, but I also have years of experience playing rock, blues, folk, hip-hop, and musical theater on both guitar and drums.

I have been teaching guitar, drums, and piano for about eight years to students of all ages. Music is what I'm passionate about and it's what I enjoy. I want to inspire that same passion into the hearts and minds of others.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid-back teacher, fun, and I focus on the needs, abilities, and ambitions of the student. In turn, students must realize that learning an instrume
nt takes a lot of work and dedication. One can't expect to learn very much if s/he only practices or thinks about the instrument during the lesson. If the student is willing to put some time into practicing, then I will help them go far!

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have several guitars, a drum kit, djembe, mandolin, clarinet and full-size keyboard.

*** Specialties ***
Guitar: Classical, jazz, American or Irish folk, rock and pop; lead or rhythm.
Drums & Percussion: All genres
Piano: Classical (includes sight reading)

Debra K.

Bronx, NY

For beginning students who are children, I like to start with either the Rubank Elementary Method or Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, as I find these provide a strong foundation in proper technique and sound, and reading music. As we move through this method, I will introduce exercises to help the student further develop a good sound on their instrument. At the same time, we will also begin to play solo and duet repertoire. I enjoy playing with students as a way to help them hear proper sound and technique and also develop listening and ensemble skills. For adults, I tailor the lessons to more specific styles of music they may be interested in learning, while also developing sound and technique according to their ability level. A specialty of mine on clarinet is klezmer, a beautiful genre of music that features that clarinet.

About Debra

I am a passionate musician and educator who is dedicated to helping students not only learn to play their instrument but to become a well-rounded musician. I love working with students of all ages and sharing my experience and love of classical, jazz and world music styles. I graduated from the Eastman School of Music with a Bachelor of Music degree in Saxophone Performance and Music Education, and went on to receive a Master of Music degree in Jazz Saxophone Performance from Manhattan School of Music. Performing all over the U.S. and abroad has been one of the highlights of my life as a music
ian. I lead my own jazz trio and quintet and perform as a featured saxophonist and clarinetist of several award-winning ensembles. I look forward to sharing my love of many styles of music with my students.

Debra is one of the best saxophone teachers ever. Before, I had absolutely no interest in saxophone. But with Debra's guidance and patience, I learned to love the sax in no time! 10/10

First I must say Debra is truly amazing. Debra has been working with my daughter for almost two years. We started the lessons simply to improve my daughters grade in her music class at school. Which went from a C- to an A+. My daughter is very focused in music class and has had two solos in her school concerts, not to mention she has performed in two recitals with Debra as well. I am so pleased that we made the decision to do the privates, because my daughter has improved tremendously.

Debra, is kind, patience, as well as passionate about her art. Debra is very flexible with her schedule as well and that means a lot to me.

Debra thank you for sharing your talent.

My first lesson with Shai went pretty well. He has deep knowledge of trumpet and I was happy also about his teaching methodology and the way he explains the very fundamentals. Glad I am learning from a jazz musician who plays in the best venues of LA and NY.
