Kristin is an amazing Piano and Flute instructor. She has a rock solid foundation in music and music theory but also really listens to her students and what they are seeking out of her instruction. She is completely dedicated to her students and great at encouraging and bringing out the best in them. I found Kristin to be extremely knowledgeable, talented, and kind. Would recommend her to musicians and aspiring musicians of all skill levels and ages.

Yegues S.

Lake Worth, FL

About Yegues

I have taken flute lessons from the flute professor at FSU as well as guitar lessons from Dr. Leo Welch here at FSU. I have given multiple lessons and master classes on both flute and guitar. I have also been a music theory tutor for many students. I have a lot of experience with both giving and receiving lessons, so I have learned many ways to adapt to any situation.

I love laughing and making jokes, which is one of the most important aspects of any teacher. Lessons should be something to look forward to rather than dreading to spend time practicing. I do prefer being more laid back as a t
eacher, but still know when it's time to get more serious about the work.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am laid back most of the time time, but I still expect whatever we assigned to be practiced for the next/current lesson. I will expect some form of technique exercise to be played as a warm up to each lesson as well as non-instrumental warm-ups like breathing. As a student, you can choose repertoire to work on, or I can provide music and etudes depending on the skill level.

I can provide rhythm, theory, or note reading worksheets if applicable to the lesson, or if the student is interested in improving themselves in any of those categories.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I will provide a stand and chairs. The student should bring their own stand if they know they have a good one for their height, but it is not necessary. The room will have a piano which will help with ear training and tuning.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide all of my repertoire and bring what will be needed as well as make copies. I expect students to have a stand and 2 chairs, however, I can bring a stand if necessary. I can also provide a metronome if needed.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in most styles mentioned above. Flute will be the most diverse because that is my primary instrument, however, I have enough knowledge of multiple styles to be able to teach effectively.

Munkhshur is a wonderful classical pianist who was a semi-finalist at the 2015 William C. Byrd Young Artist Competition for Piano. She has very good technical skills which she will teach her students. Munkhshur ("Shuree") has a pleasant personality and would give her students a very positive experience studying the piano.

Ms. Olga far exceeds even my very high expectations. She was a great choice and will follow her career with great enthusiasm and joy. She teaches my young daughter with strict joy. You can tell she loves to teach it. I want to become her student also.

Learning began the first minute of lesson 1 and has never stopped. She teaches classic piano discipline, form, theory, musicality, and performance. She teaches and demonstrates the art and science of piano.

I simply can not say enough good about her. I wish she is my wife.

I highly recommend Miss. Olga!

My 10 year old daughter has been playing piano on and off for two and half years, and we started to have lessons with Miss. Olga a month ago. Miss. Olga, who is classically trained, not only keeps a nice balance between theory and performance, but also accommodates my daughter's interests in contemporary music. My daughter just finished learning "Let it go" from Frozen, and has moved on to "Rock around the clock."

Every teacher has a point of view, personal preferences, and methodological bias that may fit one child but may not fit another child as well. Some of the teachers we have previously experienced, demonstrated how a piece of music would sound, then taught how to play it; one teacher taught with finger numbers only, another taught using musical notes. My last teacher taught with finger numbers and notes but unfortunately never ever played any songs for or with my daughter. I have books written with only finger numbers, as a result, my daughter still has hard time reading music. I have other books with names of music notes, but with insufficient fingering instruction which resulted in my daughter developing poor fingering technique. I used to have to go over the songs with my kids after each lesson.

Miss. Olga, on the other hand, demonstrates how the song should sound, then goes over the music line by line helping my daughter to figure out what the notes are, how to finger the notes and then plays the melody along with my daughter 8 octaves higher.

It seems that to Miss. Olga, learning how to play piano is a serious business, a business that the teacher and the student have to run together in order to be successful. Collaborative decision making with a child requires a willingness to listen, negotiate and compromise. As Jessica Turner (music educator) argues music instructors know about teaching music, but when it comes to your child and how s/he learns, we parents are the expert. As an educator myself, I appreciate that Miss. Olga lets me work together with her to ensure the fit and quality of my daughter's musical instruction. I feel fortunate that we have found such a great instructor for my daughter!
