I have been a professional musician and teacher all my adult life. Music is my passion and has always been how I make a living. I teach piano/keyboards, guitar, voice, bass and ukulele. I studied classical piano at SUNY at Buffalo and I initially learned to play guitar and singing on my own. Years later I studied voice and guitar with great professional instructors. I am familiar with different ways of learning music: from very structured and traditional methods (that we use in classical music) to more improvisational and "by ear" approaches as we often do in popular music. This helps me tailo
r my music teaching specifically to each student based on his/her musical preferences, abilities and learning style. I can teach all styles of music including: Pop, Rock, Blues, Country, Bluegrass, Jazz, many different Latin styles including Salsa, Bolero and Bossa Nova. I have performed all over the US and toured many countries including Mexico, Canada, Argentina, Uruguay, England and France. I have recorded more than 100 CDs for many artists (as well as my own original music) as a pianist/keyboardist, singer, guitarist and music producer. I have won many awards including most recently the Best Blues Band award as the pianist, guitarist and singer for the Lionel Young Band at the International Blues Challenge (the largest competition of blues bands in the world). I have taught music through my whole career. Many of my students have gone on to study music as a career and have become successful professional musicians. I am very comfortable teaching all levels from professional musicians to very beginners at any age. I currently lead and perform with my group. We perform concerts, private events and some club work. My life as a professional musician has given me a lot of knowledge to share with my students.
*** Lesson Details *** I adjust my approach based on what you want to learn, always with an emphasis on learning as much as possible while making the lessons fun and enjoyable. If you are a beginning piano/keyboard or guitar student I can teach you the basics of how to read music and how to play chords in the first few months and then we can decide whether you are interested in playing written music or more improvisational styles. I use different method books depending on the student and sometimes I use just my teaching materials if you are only interested in improvisational styles like Rock or Blues guitar or piano (for example). If you are a voice student, I teach with a combination of learning songs you like and using a CD/MP3s of vocal exercises that help develop good vocal technique. Whatever your instrument and musical preference you can be sure we'll have fun and you'll be making music from the very start!
*** Studio Equipment *** I have a Yamaha upright piano and keyboards. I have acoustic and electric guitars, bass and amps. I have Shure Sm-58 mics to teach microphone technique with.
*** Travel Equipment *** Student must have his/her own instrument and metronome (or equivalent) must purchase course book(s) if needed..
*** Specialties *** I teach different styles depending on the students goals. I can teach a traditional classical style for those interested in classical music and I can teach more practical approaches for popular music such as learning by chords (for instrumental students- not voice obviously) and learning improvisation through scales, arpeggios and music theory.

Both of my sons have been taking lessons with Ricardo for about a month. Ricardo first asked them what they wanted to play and has built their lessons around their interests. This has resulted in more spontaneous practice and enthusiasm. My youngest son asked if he could play a Beatles tune for us that he was working on. Ricardo had adapted it so that he could be successful immediately. He was so excited and he sounded great!

Ricardo has been a really great voice instructor. Along with being very talented, he is patient and has an honest concern to see that his students succeed. I would highly reccomend Ricardo.

Outstanding instructor of guitar. He goes above and beyond when it comes to teaching students how to play the guitar. He is very flexible, understanding, knowledgeable, and patient when he delivers his classes. Not only does he teach students how to play the guitar, he also does other things like teaching them how to tune their guitars, how to change keys when necessary to make a song sound better, and how to use a capo when playing the guitar. All of these are above and beyond what most teachers have taught me in the past. I really enjoy taking classes from my instructor.

This teacher has great potential.
Level of reliability is lacking somewhat with this teacher.
I treat the bass as a rhythmic instrument first, and then a melodic instrument. Learning to lock in with a drummer is essential for a bassist and I can literally accompany that process. If you'd like to learn to play danceable music on the bass guitar, I'm your man. I can also teach you to read charts (ie:jazz real book charts).
I graduated with a Music BA from CU Boulder in May 2014. I have played in several different ensembles on a variety of instuments including Bass, Drums, Guitar, Piano, Ukulele and Voice. My classical training in combination with my experience as a song writer, multi-instrumentalist and band leader gives me a uniquely well-rounded teaching style. I aim to teach and inspire students to use music as a platform for learning important skills such as diligent practice, cognitive flexibilty, and creative expression.
I grew up in Boulder and Hawaii where I gained a love for island music, Reggae, Hig
hlife Music, Jazz and Funk. I am currently in a band called "Isa and Joe Alan" which plays original music in all these styles. I am also a professional face painter, juggler and balloon twister, and love yoga, hiking and climbing.
*** Lesson Details *** The lesson curriculum aims to develop students' understanding of aural skills, sight reading, and music theory as well as encouraging fun ways of using music to be more expressive, creative, coordinated and focused. I always tailor lessons to the goals of the student and parents, but after three months, a beginning student generally understands music theory and how to read music, has some experience improvising on their instrument, and feels confident in their ability to develop their skills in and outside of lessons.
*** Studio Equipment *** I teach in my home studio in North Boulder. The studio has, piano, bass drums, guitar ukelele and vocal microphones. Students should bring their own instruments to in studio lessons (drums and piano provided in the studio) Parents may attend the lessons if they choose.
*** Travel Equipment *** I can provide all necessary materials for lessons, however it is necessary that students have their own instruments on which to play and practice. I may request that students buy some materials such as tuners (for stringed instruments) or lesson books.
*** Specialties *** Reggae, Afro-music, funk, soul, blues and jazz

Julian has been wonderful to teach Music Theory as well as Piano. He has interesting methods and uses very solid music theory, to create a larger picture which leads to a full understanding of how piano works, and of the music you play on it.
Lessons are interesting and fun. Also I find them very well-rounded. Julian is a positive instructor and I find him very respectful and simply fun to learn from.
I highly recommend Julian Y.

It's difficult to find an instructor and I feel extremely lucky that I ended up studying with Julian. I was a beginning piano player but very interested in a strong music theory base for my studies. Julian has an extremely deep knowledge of music theory and application across many styles. We have probably spent as much time on theory as on playing (my choice/naturally where our lessons have gone). He is also an excellent guitar player and i have paired relearning guitar with the piano so our lessons can range widely from piano practice to theory to guitar and back.
I find Julian extremely easy to get a long with, very good at explaining theory and leading me to my own epiphanies and conclusions that have made learning continually exciting. He is a good communicator about lessons times and has been probably more flexible than i deserve in accommodating my schedule.
As we have progressed we are now working on song writing, music notation, jazz/staff notation, working through the REAL BOOK, ear training, etc..
My greatest fear was ending up with a very parochial or didactic instructor. Julian is anything but that. I look forward to my lessons every week and have increased my time with him to twice a week.

My son has been taking drum lessons from Julian for about six months now. Julian is fantastic with him. He seems very knowledgeable and his demeanor is perfect for kids (and adults!). He likes to incorporate other instruments into the lesson as well, since my son can also play piano. He has a nice energy during lessons, keeping a good balance of having fun and learning. He also just led my son in his first group experience, where he played drums while others played guitar and keyboard. Julian was amazing at keeping everyone on task, while having fun at the same time! I would recommend Julian as a music instructor for anyone and everyone. :)

Excellent Instructor Overall
"Awesome teacher" 5/5 stars Boulder Guitar Studio Review
I wouldn't consider getting instruction from anybody but Lee. From his lifetime devotion to music, he has an encyclopedic knowledge of musical styles and playing techniques, which he uses to customize lessons to the student's particular goals. Besides guitar and bass, I spent a lot of time with Lee studying songwriting -- he's an awesome writer himself and completely open about sharing all the things he has learned over the years.
That willingness to adapt to my particular needs and desires, along with his true passion for all types of music, makes Lee an outstanding teacher.

Bass lessons consist of proper technique, classic rock bass lines, and sight reading.
When I was growing up I thought music was like magic and that only special people with super-human powers could play. I would think to myself, "How are they doing that? I would never be able to play music in a million years!" It wasn't until I was 14 I discovered guitar magazines and a method of reading called guitar tablature that I realized anybody can learn guitar! With determination, patience, and practice I learned as many songs and techniques from my heroes (The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin) as I could. I realized there is so much to learn about music that I could learn something
new everyday. This still holds true to this day. I keep digging to find that magic place to which music can take you. It is my goal as a musician and a teacher to help other aspiring musicians (YOU!) find their way to the joys of music. After graduating high school my passion for music kept growing and I decided to go to a school to learn more about it. While attending Moorhead State University of Minnesota I went through a speed boost to gaining knowledge about music. The wonderful teachers of MSUM provided me with direction, encouragement, and plenty of opportunities to play through ensembles. I was in Jazz Guitar Ensemble, Jazz Combos, Jazz Big Band, and Commercial Ensembles. My aspirations are to pass along the information torch that I received while attending MSUM to people who are interested and have the desire to make a sound.I am friendly, patient, and fun to work with. I believe music should be exciting and make you feel good. I teach on an individual basis. Everybody learns at different rates and in different ways. My goal is to find the best way to teach you so that you get the most out of our lessons. There are many streams that lead to the big ocean of music so there are many different ways to learn. Whether you want to learn rock, jazz, bluegrass, or folk I am flexible with teaching you what you want to learn while at the same time providing you with little golden nuggets of information to further your skills through music theory, technique exercises, and how to avoid common pit falls. With enough determination, patience, and practice you too can discover the joys of music and be able to express your individuality in a way you never thought possible. It would be an honor to help you find your own path down the road to musical bliss.
*** Lesson Details *** I am a laid back person with an easy going approach to teaching. Music is meant to be fun! I teach you what you want to learn. I have had experience with playing rock, jazz, bluegrass, and folk. If you are not sure what you want to learn I'll ask you questions about yourself and your interests to determine the best route to go. Within the first few lessons you will learn how to tune your instrument, how to read tablature (TABS for short), and how to read chord charts. If you are interested in learning theory and how to read music I teach out of the Hal Leonard Guitar Method book series. After the first six months, depending on your level and how much you practice, you will be well on your to playing full songs by your favorite artists, have the ability to jam with other musicians, and understand the basics of your instrument. It is my belief that you get out of music what you put into it. There are no short cuts. All of the masters have one thing in common and that is practice. If you are willing to put in the work I am obliged to give you direction.
*** Studio Equipment *** Music stand, amp, instrument cable, picks
*** Travel Equipment *** I can provide an amp and picks. I expect the student to provide an instrument, instrument cable (if using an electric instrument), tuner, metronome, notebook (either tab book or regular notebook),
*** Specialties *** I play an eclectic blend of rock, jazz, folk, and bluegrass. My method of teaching is based on the individual's level and type of learning.

Steve has been great so far. His skills are up-to-snuff and his manner is perfect for a young child with a wild imagination. But more importantly, Steve communicates very well and is on time. This may seem like small stuff but it's uncommon in the private music instruction realm.

"Comfortable learning from Frank
Frank has a wonderful personality. I am so much at ease learning from Frank. His style of teaching tips and techniques ha
s made it so much easier for learning rather than having a child playing away and not know the base of an instrument. His patience and understanding is amazing. He is very easy to communicate with and not forgetting how in tuned he is with his student that he picks up things that even I do not know I am doing wrong. Thanks for that. I know for sure I will not be changing to another music teacher."

Andrew went above and beyond what I ever expected. He did a great job of covering rudiments and technical aspects, while simultaneously
focusing on the "art" of bass playing. He was very aware of my skill level and responsive to my needs as a student. I highly recommend him for beginners and imagine that he would be great for more skilled students as well"

"Perfect teacher for the passionate student
I've been taking lessons with Daniel for a few months now, and I have thoroughly enjoyed and grew from each le
sson. If you're serious about making music for fun or professionally, he's the teacher for you.
What I like most is how he creates a beneficial and serious learning environment that's still incredibly fun and positive. After a few lessons we were already playing songs together, and he's taught me a more effective way to practice on my own, which was a major problem for me.
As soon as you meet Daniel, you can tell how passionate he is about his craft, and if you display your own passion for music, you will work great together, and you WILL progress. I highly recommend him!"

"good all-around teacher
Aaron is a positive and inspiring instructor. He is very competent on the instrument (and I believe he is well versed in more tha
n just bass guitar) and is a working musician. In my lessons he has attempted to guide me into territory I was unfamiliar with in a way that I can understand. Sometimes that has not been so easy, as with Modes, but he is willing to modify the lessons according to what I have wanted to learn and how easily I can absorb it. If there's something I'm not grasping, he tries to explain it in a different manner and with a little effort on my part, I can comprehend it. He definitely wants his students to learn and have fun, while also making it challenging."

"Jeff Stetson is & has been my #1 recommendation to learn to play music for 20+ years!
Jeff was probably the best thing to happen to me as a teenager. I t
ook bass lessons from Jeff for 5 years & in that time, my world of music expanded as did my skills in playing music. My lessons with Jeff prepared me well enough to enter into college level music courses. If I had an audition, Jeff zeroed in on what I needed to know & helped me get the gig. His study techniques work, if you work em'! He will show you what you want & you will get a whole lot more. Ask him about the Louie Louie/Wild Thing thread & you will get the history & learn to play R-n-R, the Blues, R.n.B, Funk. & the foundations of Jazz. All levels, all styles, Jeff Stetson is my #1 recommendation for learning music. Thanks Jeff, I am positive you helped keep me out of trouble & possibly jail too."
