  1. There are a few factors that come into play when choosing sticks for this application. What is your level of fluency? How large is the band? Are you playing in a shield? How large is the congregation? Are you playing contemporary or traditional music?

If you have decent touch and control, use whichever stick feels best to you. If you are playing for a large congregation, with a band that is amped, and/or you are playing behind a shield, use a solid stick (5A is a good work horse).

If you are playing to a small group, perhaps with an unplugged band, playing traditional hymns, you may like rutes/hot rods, as they will have a softer attack and fit that context.

    Hope this helps!
