TakeLessons Teachers Make a Difference!

May 12, 2014

Takelessons-Team 1One of my favorite things about working at TakeLessons is checking my email and finding amazing stories from students and teachers about how music lessons are changing lives. Sometimes I get so excited about the stories our students and teachers have to share that I just can’t keep them to myself!

Although we are still growing and working hard to improve every day, it’s important to take some time to recognize the impact our teachers have on so many lives. Here are just a few of my favorite stories that have come in over the past few months.

Melissa L., a TakeLessons Voice Teacher in Tampa, FL, shared this great story about how music helped one of her young students open up and gain confidence.

She wrote, “I could not be more proud of my student, Shelby. When we first started lessons last summer, she would not sing in front of anyone. She would even sing extra quiet in our lessons. Over the past year she came out of her shell and yesterday she performed onstage for the first time in front of an audience! She did perfectly! She got so many compliments about her voice. Her family and I are so proud of her accomplishment and new confidence.

Isn’t it amazing how much studying music can transform one young person’s life?

I also loved hearing from Marci S., a Piano Teacher in Lenexa, KS.

She wrote, “I took several students to a local retirement village to perform in a short recital for the residents and the students’ families last week. I am so proud of all my TakeLessons students who performed: Sauravi S., voice student, performed solo for the first time in front of an audience and she was wonderful and sang like an angel. Arthur N. performed a Diabelli Sonatina, and Eric S. played a Bach Praeludium. Everyone loved our mini-recital, and the residents of the village especially enjoyed the afternoon’s entertainment. Way to go kids! Keep up the fine work!

It’s so wonderful to know that our teachers also care about their communities and teaching their students to use their talents to help bring cheer to others.

Another one of my favorite stories comes from Robert D., a Guitar Teacher in Raleigh, NC.

He wrote, “My student Mia has only just started lessons recently, but has already joined her church’s band as bassist! She just had her first rehearsal last night, where she was complemented by her bandmates and described as ‘solid’ by the music director! I’m super proud of her – she has a tremendous amount of focus and determination for such a young age, and I am so pleased with how happy she is to be playing in a band. We are going to be learning new songs each week, and I can’t wait to see her abilities continue to develop.

Knowing that our students are hitting milestones in their musical development is super exciting and it keeps me pumped up to come to work every day!
