I believe that an informed electorate is the key to a successful democracy. Furthermore, the key to an informed electorate is pure, honest and honorable journalistic reporting meant to inform, and not to persuade. Looking up to authors such as Upton Sinclair, it would be an honor to be part of a movement that would bring honesty and credibility to American journalism once again. If my goal is too big a dream in it’s entirety, I would hope to one day be able to say that I tried my absolute hardest. The beauty of todays technology and the speed at which information can be circulated has simultaneously become the Achille’s heel of modern journalistic media, as false information can be propagated through illegitimate sources just as easily as the truth. Sadly, the internet is not the only issue anymore. Newsrooms obsessed by ratings and ran by corporations that could care less about the well-being of the populace have invaded our screens with hashtags and inexplicably unimportant updates on celebrities while actual news in being written in our world everyday, right under our noses. I believe my vision is truly attainable. I would like to establish a news production that can take pride in honest, credible and relevant journalism, leaving behind the age of American consumer-fueled reporting which has stained our once golden age of journalism.
