My goal is to become an engineer. We live in a universe with many unique and fascinating properties – which has been discovered by many wonderful scientists. However, those discoveries did not have any meaning until they were interpreted and manipulated, using different laws of mathematics and problem solving methods, by engineers. Engineers are necessary to help alleviate the problems that our world faces: energy crisis, pollution, food shortages… etc. it would be my dream to help change someone’s life by tackling those problems as an engineer.
The first step in achieving my goal is getting an education. Currently I’m a sophomore at Drexel University. In few years, I will get my bachelors of science in computer engineering. The main obstacle that I’m facing currently is financial stability. Because my single mother works as a home aid care, I don’t have much support to cover my expenses. It is especially difficult because I’m completely on my own, and even though I have financial aid from Drexel to cover most of my tuition, I have to come up with source of income to cover housing, food, books, and other bills. Being in a quarter system school makes it hard to fit a full time restaurant job in my schedule because I have to take up to 20 credits per quarter. There were times when I wanted to drop out, either because I only had three dollars in my bank account or few packs of Ramen Noodles in my cabinet. But thinking about my dream and my future helps me stay strong and carry on.
