I would become a Registered Dietitian, and it would change the world because I would work to help people every day. Dietitians are the premiere experts in their fields and help people by educating them on topics like diabetes management, weight loss advice, diets for cancer treatment, and disease prevention, among many others. Being a Dietitian would allow me to connect with and help anyone in the world because it is a field that deals with something everyone needs: food.
In order to become a Registered Dietitian (RD) I need to complete my undergraduate degree in nutrition and then get matched to an accredited Dietetic Internship with over 1200 hours of hands-on supervised practice in the field. I am working toward this goal right now, as I am currently a senior at SUNY Oneonta in upstate New York, and will graduate with my Bachelors degree in Nutrition May 2015. SUNY Oneonta has a dual Masters Degree/Dietetic internship program that I will be applying to this fall, so once I complete from the undergraduate program I will transition to the graduate level internship immediately afterward.
I stand only 2 years of hard work away from becoming a Registered Dietitian and realizing my dream. Once this has been accomplished I can begin working in the field and helping people in a variety of ways, because food is a universal language and I am studying to understand it more. That is my dream, and it is closer to being realized than ever before.
