Hopefully, within months that I have graduated and obtained a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering, I will be working in the design sector in a well-known contractor company. Civil engineers are the noblest in the engineering spectrum. Without them, there will be no civilization, hence the title civil. During my 2013 internship career at my City’s engineering department, I designed new ramps on the AutoCAD software to replaced the obsolete and non-regulatory ramps. Recently, I have driven by one of the locations and saw that my design work has been put in place, and transformed a computer drawing into reality. In that moment, I felt not only satisfaction, but success that I made a change to my local community by offering the civilians a safer crosswalk ramp.
Starting off as a freshman in college, I have already accepted to two programs that will make my career successful at Cal Poly. These programs offer academic advising and tutoring services to help me, a first-generation, low-income student, to excel during the years at the school. Moreover, they also provide networking opportunities with different firms that are seeking for student interns. With experience already in a civil engineering internship, I believe I am one step ahead of other students, which will make me a selective candidate for the future internship opportunities. From having access to academic and career advising, and networking opportunities, my experiences will slowly turn my dream into reality.

My Dream Job

If I could earn a living doing what I love most I would be traveling all around the world seeing many different landmarks and cultural differences around the world . I would also love to travel the world trying different foods in many different places. If this were to be what I actually pursued as a career I would first have to set a goal to raise some financial support for myself. One possibility of this would be to raise support from wealthy individuals who might be interested in my work if I were to record all the cultural differences among the people groups I came in contact with so they could publish the data. I would also like to take many courses in college learning about different people groups and cultures around the world so that I could have a crutch to lean on when it came to getting financial support. It would be good for investors to see that I already have some knowledge in the field. I then would just need to map out all the places I would travel too and do some research ahead of time to get a feel for where I would be going. I believe I could change the world by doing these things because my findings and research could be used to bring peace between different cultures by helping them to understand the values and customs of one another. Overall, I believe I could help make the world a better place.

Enjoying the work we do every day is certainly a rare thing, yet it is even more rare to live out a dream job. If I had a choice of having any job in the world, I would be a landscape photographer. Looking at the work of Ansel Adams and Peter Lik, to name a couple, makes me realize what an amazing world we have. Whenever I seem to be feeling depressed or like life is pointless, I can look at the stunning art these two fantastic photographers have created and I am instantly struck by how wonderful and beautiful the creation of God is. I know that he loves me even more than the awe-inspiring world he created and no matter what I am feeling it always encourages me. Ansel Adams and Peter Lik have inspired me and made me see things that I never thought I would see. They have showed the world in a different light. While being a landscape photographer may not seem like a profession that would be able to change the world, my world has been changed in staggering ways because of photographers like Adams and Lik. I can only hope to inspire someone in the same way that they have inspired me, and hopefully I would be able to change someone else’s life. If I can change one persons life, then I consider my life well lived.

If I could earn a living doing something I love it would be building the Kingdom of God by spreading the word of the Gospel of Christ. I believe in GOD the Father Almighty and His only son Jesus Christ.

It is because of this believed I have been able to overcome some of the hardships of this world that I brought on myself through bad decisions. Through the Gospel of Christ I learned about the Love and goodness of a Higher Power that I know as Jehovah God. Through the Gospel I learned how to guide my life with discipline and wisdom and much more.

I would love to teach the world about the Gospel because in the Gospels are lessons on how to do everything from how to loving yourself and others to how to manage your life and finances. I think this could change the world.

Healing as a Whole

If I could earn a living doing what I love most, it would be helping people heal as a whole. We are all walking wounded whether we choose to see it or not. Everyone has been hurt in some capacity whether it be emotional, mental, spiritual or physical. In most cases it has been in more than one area of their life.

I work as a barista and a freelance photographer. These two jobs have given me an opportunity to encounter many people from many different walks of life, most of whom share their life stories and experiences with me. They are looking to be healed in one area or another and are reaching out for help.

I would like to learn how to facilitate the healing process first through “healing touch.” For me that would be working as a massage therapist. Most people need touch in order to feel healthy and whole. Massage offers more than relaxation. It can bring about physical healing, emotional healing and mental healing. Our minds and bodies are connected and work together. When we are “hurt” our body actually registers this hurt, it could be neck pain, or shoulder pain, or lower back pain, depending upon where the body “stored” the pain. As a massage therapist works on this part of the body to release the “ache.” They in turn bring about the healing process.

I personally would like to work with women who have suffered trauma due to sexual abuse. What happens to ones outlook on life, and their outlook on people, society as a whole becomes skewed. Most are afraid of people in general and use many different tactic to overcome their fears. These women are desperate for touch and yet afraid to receive it, that it seems they stay stuck in an endless cycle of self-hatred and self-abuse. if I could come in and do as little as work on their feet, just so that they can relax and experience physical touch in a non-intrusive manner, it would very much facilitate in their healing process.

In order to get to this place. I need to get into a good Massage Therapy Program. That is why I have chosen Northwestern Health Sciences University. they have an excellent Massage Therapy program. They are a well respected school throughout the country. They have classes and clinics lined up with different hospitals in the area, where we can work hands on with all sorts of people from the very young to the very old, to the very healthy to the very sick. The programs that they have offer a Certificate of massage as well as an Associate of Applied Science Degree, which is what I would need in order to work in a hospital setting as a massage therapist.

While in school, towards the end of my time there, I would contact the Melrose Institute at Methodist Hospital and inquire with them to see if they had any volunteer opportunities available to do massage therapy with the women and men they treat. So that i can start in the area that I would like to specialize in. I would love if it turned into more than a volunteer position once I graduate in January of 2016.

Supporting the Soldier Sanctuary

When I was younger I saw an Army commercial and the phrase “Army Strong” came across the screen. It seemed to stick out to me and to this day I feel that the toughest and strongest people are members of the United Stated military. These are the people that we depend upon to protect our homes, our children, our jobs, and our comfortable way of living. They do all of this for us, yet once they leave the military and want to transition back into civilian life, what is it that we offer them? With this question posed, if I could earn a living doing what I love most, it would be running a chain of centers know as the Soldier Sanctuary that are built not only to help veterans transition back into civilian life, but to set them up with the proper jobs, education opportunities, and health care that they deserve. I constantly see military men and women working low end jobs to support their families. We owe them more than that. Because of them we do not have to experience what many other less fortunate countries go though as far as attacks, famine, and other negative occurrences. I would like my centers to be able to address veteran issues such as education deficits, social anxiety, substance abuse, financial literacy, and other problems that we do not think about every day. If they can help us, then why can we not help them?

If I Could Do Anything

If I could do anything with enough time and resources I would start up my own lifestyle and wellness business. I attended two nutrition schools that specialized in alternative medicine and holistic practices. I earned my certification in Health Coaching. It’s really all about asking the right questions at the right times. People work through their problems on their own with a little guidance from me. The idea is to listen, give advice and support women who are struggling physically, mentally and spiritually. All these things tie into your happiness. I’d also like to create a blog, newsletter and e-books offering tips to clients. The reward is having a fulfilling job while helping someone else better themselves and their life.
As of right now I do not charge a set price I do what people can afford and my clients have been mainly my friends. It’s not my primary job because it does not pay the bills, it’s become more of a hobby. I do create newsletters for fun for friends. If I had more time I would do some more writing. At the end of the year I will be cutting back to just one job instead of the two clerical ones I currently have. This will free up more time to do some more writing and then maybe I could look into getting some more clients. It’s my pleasure to be of help to anyone.

Beat, Harmony, and Voice

With every beat created, with every harmony sung, and with every voice heard—Music is what I love the most. From one day to the next, music is a part of life that does not seem to let me down. In any circumstance, my whole world can be turned around with just one simple listen of the right song. Music changes my world every day: it makes me a better person, it makes me a happier person, and it makes me feel like I am not invisible. One song can change a life forever, I know from personal experience, but to know I have changed someone’s life forever through words, vocals, and beats I discovered would make me feel like I have been put on this Earth for a reason. If I could do that for a living, have the knowledge that someone is listening to a song that I gave an artist the opportunity to create, I would love my job more than words can describe.
Owning a record label can seem far-fetched, but it is attainable by knocking out one goal at a time. To start, I want to learn from the bottom up. I will go from being a booking agent for an artist, to marketing for a record label, then working my way up the ladder from there. Once I learned the ins and outs of the business, of course, I would then branch out on my own and make my dreams become a reality.

The thing I love doing the most is helping other musicians become better at what THEY love. In a way I love to help others do what they love through music. When I am able to teach others it makes me feel like I am changing someone else’s life. I want to become a world-known director of music. I want to teach people of all origins, all background and all walks of life. I am a Music Education major at the University of Arizona and that is my first stepping stone to changing the world. I am studying under people who have connections to the high-and-mighty music educators and I want to study with them. The requires money and I will do whatever it takes to earn that money to study with these people. Once I graduate from college I will go one and teach high school and take them to the national level of performing. The whole ride from no until then will be the highlight of my life.

Molding the Next Generation

What many people do not understand is that teachers are some of the most influential people in the world. Students spend approximately eight hours in school with their teacher five days a week for nine month out of the year; more time is spent with their teachers than with their own parents. Teachers have the ability to help mold young and impressionable children into proactive and decent citizens of a society that needs mending. Teachers are the people who explain history to these young children who have never experienced such things or are even learning about things that never ended even though people tried to fix it. Teachers have the ability to instill a sense of duty into their children (students) and the knowledge of what is wrong and right. Teachers have a hand in shaping the next generation; a generation that has the ability to fix the wrongs in our society. As a future teacher I will be shaping and molding twenty plus young minds a year; young minds belonging to those who will one day be at the forefront of the fight against all the wrongs that have occurred for much too long.
