If I could change the world doing what I love it would be of course working with children who have special needs. These would not be school age children however they would be those who are not old enough to attend school yet. The target age would be those, Pre-K and bellow, that either go to a half day special education program or none at all. It would be a full service center that would provide before, during and after care for those children who have needs that wouldn’t be fully met by outside preschool and day cares. Each staff member would be trained in special education, would have a degree or certification. The ratios would remain low to help ensure the one on one these children would need.
My current degree plan would enable me to work in the Head Start school system and or nonprofit organizations. I would partner with both of these to help ensure that I am meeting the needs of the children while also providing a network of support for the families. Tuition, while often hinders families from utilizing programs for their children, would be based on the financial needs of each family. We would rely on donations and sponsors from outside sources to help ensure no family were turned away. My goals are to help these families who can’t find support and care for their children outside of their family, to the community who will love and nurture them as their own.
