The only way I believe I can truly give back to Hawai’i is to be an educator. Each child that walks into my classroom is looking for guidance, an education and walks in with hopes of accomplishments. My goal is to acknowledge the various cultures that will fill my classroom and not only enhance the cultures that my students have, but demonstrate the importance of education. My family life has not been perfect. I have been raised as a daughter to have moral values, and to never be ashamed of the culture that I have. As students many of them struggle with accepting their own culture and trying to embrace the American culture. I will be that educator that helps identify the balance between both worlds. I understand that the battle is real in the classrooms. Students choose a different route in life than a life filled with education. I see that on a daily basis, but I want to make my classroom a safe haven to learn, experiment and to achieve the various goals that my students have. I strongly believe that when I put my heart in teaching the children of Hawai’i, in Hawai’i that I am giving back to the island. I graduated from Farrington High School, and I went back as an Educational Assistant. My plan is to now go a step further and return back as an educator.
