If I could earn a living creating animations and illustrations for movie and television companies like Disney or Warner bros, I would be the happiest person on earth. As a successful animator and illustrator I would use my skills to bring joy to people and children who watch movies and TV shows. I would use a portion of the money I earn to contribute to scholarship programs for students interested in my field so that they may find hope to continue pursuing it. I believe I can change the world one child at a time; I will be demonstrating to kids that someone like me can make their goals a reality and so can they. I would like to get involved with high school students in the urban areas and make motivational speeches and contribute my earnings in their art programs to give them what I never had in my high school experience. To change the world with my career path, I would have to make changes. Currently, I am taking the appropriate steps to get to my dream career by starting with the basic undergraduate studies paired with drawing classes. Aside from my studies, I’m always practicing drawing so that I may preserve and improve my skills. I’m currently saving as much as possible so that I may afford my future university tuition and all expenses. I plan on transferring to a quality university that offers the best opportunities for my artistic career path in the fall of 2015.

For years, I felt I had no potential. There was no way that anyone would notice me in a world with so many great innovators and scholars. I had not developed the skills to succeed and my identity was not clear. But the end of the darkness came when I decided to stop “just living.” I pledged to myself, that I would find my purpose and that purpose is to advocate, educate, and become a leader for those who struggle with identity issues because of gender or sexuality, substance abuse, mental health, and H.I.V. status in impoverished communities.
I currently volunteer at Positive Impact which is a non-profit community-based organization located in Midtown Atlanta, by providing peer support to members in the H.I.V. positive community who deal with substance abuse and mental health issues. I became affiliated with this organization because of the powerful modifications of the beliefs about people who live with H.I.V., substance abuse or mental health illness. I also attained my certification through the Georgia Mental Health Consumer Network as a certified peer specialist and am currently working for Caring Work Inc. in Atlanta Georgia.
Currently I am continuing my education at Morehouse College in Atlanta Ga. and will be graduating with my bachelors of science in psychology. In order for me to change the system I have to change the beliefs. With your assistance in financial aid, I can make this possible. Thank You.

There is no point in putting all our energy into negative dwelling, there is only one way to deal with challenges, that is to face them. I started to force all my energy into making a difference in someone else’s life. My American Dream

My American Dream

It seems that so often the subject of economic standing and wealth, are said synonymously with the phrase “The American Dream”. It seems that it takes money to be happy and economic stature to be accepted; however, many people who fall into this trap out of ignorance will never achieve “The American Dream” they strive towards.

The cliché, “In America, you can be whatever you want,” always brings a smirk to my face. I am not a cynical person, but this just isn’t true. If I decided I wanted to be the star of the next Academy Award winning hit, no matter how much I “want” it, it is not guaranteed to happen. In defense, many people will argue that one shouldn’t take the remark so literally, that it just means that the avenue’s and highways to success exist, it is the person’s choice weather they take them or not; unfortunately, that is not the case.

In the Great Gatsby Nick Carroway explains his love as, “…it was full of money-that was the inexhaustible charm that rose and fell in it, the jingle of it, the cymbal’s song of it…”(127) Hundred’s of people start off with the Idea of becoming someone, and as their life progresses, they must completely adapt to a change of pace and ideas. How many people have gone out, and achieved the correct degrees, met the right people, been hired at the perfect job-only to be let go for a reason they could not have controlled. This is the Idea that I discussed on the first day of class. The idea of the Mesa being like the American dream, “You climb and climb, only to reach a plateau, that you will eventually fall over the other side of.”(first day notes)

To me the “American Dream” is not just a dollar sign, or desk nametag, but the ability to walk into a room or a home, and know that your presence is welcomed and looked forward to. The dream is realizing that in America, we have the resources to make an honest difference. Unfortunately there was no reading that really embodied my version of the American dream. The closest book that came to it was, Their Eyes Were Watching God, because Janie did eventually realize that their was so much more to life than money, status, and material things. When she returns home she says, “‘So Ah’m back home agin and Ah’m satisfied tuh be heah. Ah done been tuh de horizon and back and now Ah kin set heah in mah house and live by comparisons’”(182). This is how I feel about the American dream. Go as far as you like, try what you want, but realize home is always home. That is Why America is great, because you always have that place to call home.

My American dream has been unwavering since my youth. I find it easy to think of ways to place a metaphor on the dreams of others; however, it is difficult to find one for my own. I think to me, the American Dream is like A Family tree. Feel free to branch off, and grow as an individual. Become the best branch on that tree, and bear the best fruit if you want. You can even sprout seeds and grow a larger, better tree. No matter what, your roots will always be there, in that original tree, that original root.

This fall I will be a college freshmen majoring in paralegal studies. I will be finally turning my dreams into a reality. I have always wanted to be in the law field. I knew if I could help others by giving them the legal advice with the clues I find, then I could also help them with the problems they are going through. I know I will benefit myself and the client, as I learn from about life from them and any hardships that come along. A part of this dream is to travel the world and open different firms in my lifetime to help those in third world countries and give legal advice about their country. My family is from Vietnam and many people there do not recover from what has happened almost about 40 years ago. Of course, Vietnam country is still communist. If the people knew their legal rights to what they can have, they would not have to be bullied nor pressured into anything the government does not write down on paper. I aim to educate others about law as I learn about it myself. Hopefully, I will be able to further my education and accomplish all my dreams as I start my journey into college.

I had always dreamt of becoming a teacher. While observing at a young age, it seemed that teachers exuded a certain bottomless energy to help, guide, and innovate. To become a teacher is an ideal example of community service, because you commit to a life of passionate dedication to the community’s future, who are our children. Those children grow into adults, who could possibly make the world into a better place.

The first step in becoming an educator would be to train yourself in time management, flexibility, and tolerance. I have worked hard to try to complete this goal, balancing student and athletic responsibilities at the same time. My second goal due for accomplishment would be to completing a higher education. To achieve this goal, I have enrolled to Dakota Wesleyan University. Their motto is “Learn Strong”, and I hope to do so. Lastly, a more tangible goal is to attain a teaching certificate, and once I have received my degree in English Education, I intend to strive for official certification.

Overall, education is empowering and multi-faceted. To inspire is inspiring, as well as is working hard for others to work hard. A teacher is more than just someone who grades worksheets; teachers are, additionally and importantly, cultural synergists and inevitably influential. William Butler Yeats said that “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.”. By this, Yeats emphasized that teachers set ablaze myriad talents that every human holds. Education empowers possibilities.

Hello, my name is Jaiza Wesley and I am nineteen years old. I will be starting my sophomore year at Bennett College this fall. I am currently a Psychology major and will be pursuing Law school in 2017. If I could earn a living doing what I love most, it would be to become an advocate for children who live in abusive homes. By doing so, I hope to help stop the vicious cycle of domestic violence. As we know this cycle can and will continue by becoming abusers or allowing the abuse to be done unto them. In order to make this dream a reality I must focus on this passion and let it be my motivation to preserver and conquer any trials and tribulations that come my way. Most importantly I must graduate from Bennett College with my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. I will then attend Law school where I will earn my Master’s in Family Law. After becoming a Lawyer, I will be able to fight, protect, and save children all across America who have no one fighting for them. With my investment in obtaining my degrees, I will not only be helping my dreams come true, but I will have the opportunity to forever change the precious lives of children as well.

If I could earn a living doing what I love most, I would spend a copious amount of time curing children of cancerous cells that so unjustly invade their young bodies. It has always been my life goal and momentous dream to become a pediatric oncologist because I strive to live in a world in which cancer does not define or even take the lives of children so abruptly. All my life I have fought for the lives of innocent children so bravely conquering the destructive path that we call childhood cancer, by creating different fundraisers in an attempt to raise money for new chemotherapy and research. I plan to obtain the highest level of education, in order to successfully treat and essentially rid the world of childhood cancer. This would cause a detrimental change to our society because it would allow for all children to have a positive and bright future they so longingly deserve.
