The passion I enjoy is music. Ever since I got into high school I knew that I had to study music in college. Being able to have career in music would be ideal, since for me it wouldn’t be a job I would hate to go to everyday. In order to accomplish this I have to acquire proper education in music. For this reason I applied, auditioned and got admitted into the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music, more specifically the Theory, Composition and Musicology Department. Although I’m an avid saxophone player, I love composing and this is the degree and field of study I want to plunge into. I know that gaining the knowledge this degree will give me will be very useful in the real world to start a career in music composition. The making of new music through my own endevour for art’s sake or for commissions is a great way of exposing new ideas and forms of thinking to audiences that expect the same thing. A composer’s job is to treasure the classics and traditional styles, but keep looking into the horizon and explore new things and incorporate those new things into his own music. It’s a fine line between staying in the classical, more traditional styles and forms of music and constantly trying to innovate. I know that when a composer with revolutionary views and knowledge teaches his craft to new generations, the students respond to his encouragement and ultimately change the way they conceive music.
