Drummers: How Many of These Silly Things Do You Do?

May 12, 2016

How do you tell if a stage is level? The drummer is drooling from both sides of his mouth.

How many drummers does it take to change a light bulb? One to screw the bulb in, and four to talk about how much Neil Peart could have done it.

Sure, there are a lot of drummer jokes out there – and guitarist jokes, and musician jokes… sometimes, you just have to take it in stride. But you do have to admit – most drummers do have several silly habits in common. Drummer’s Database recently posted a list of 99 things that drummers might find strangely familiar – how many of these are you guilty of?

Tap and bang on every surface available.

Air drum.

Practice far too fast for our own good (admit it, you do this!)

Create makeshift drum kits out of general household items such as pots and pans.

Listen to music only to realize we’re concentrating on the drums and nothing else.

Forget that one important clamp/stand/part.

Lose all our drum keys, despite owning about 400 of the things.

Try to throw the bass player off in rehearsals for laughs.

Miss the drum and whack our knuckles on the edge.

Drop sticks at the worst time possible…

…Then panic.

Get splinters.

Get strange looks at traffic lights when drumming on the steering wheel.

Experience “drum trance” during a particularly awesome song on the radio.

Attempt to identify famous songs by non-musical people tapping them.

You can read the list in its entirety here. Now go out there and show off your skills, silly habits and all!
