Mark W.

Snellville, GA

About Mark T

I have been playing since I was 4 years old and have been loving every minute of it. I have been fortunate to play and tour with many groups here in the US and in Europe. Over the years I have really enjoyed passing on my knowledge and love of music making to others. I would be honored if you gave me the opportunity to help your or your family achieve their musical dreams.

*** Lesson Details ***
First and foremost I am very laid back and that helps my students relax into the process of making great music. Expect your first lesson to be about getting to know each other and getting a firm
idea of what your expectations are.

Everyone learns at a different pace and has changing interests. Within the framework of moving you towards your musical goals I create custom goals and lessons for my students.

What does that mean? Well, you can pick out some of your own music, customize the way you practice, decide when you want to move forward with more challenging music and many other things.

I do expect my students to learn several pieces of music at a time and perform so you can share your music. That's what it is all about after all!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music room with seating for parents.

*** Travel Equipment ***
None, all students require an instrument to practice on.

Fantastic Teacher!

Mark Williams's violin teaching is very experienced and professional. He helped prepare my daughter for her county orchestra audition, and she made it! My daughter enjoys the pieces assigned, and his constructive feedback has allowed her to fix bowing technique and other problems. Each lesson is focused on improving and learning new and old skills. His teaching has made my daughter a better violinist! The schedule is also flexible to fit all my daughter's activities. If you are looking for an excellent violin teacher, Mark Williams is the one!

Excited about learning more!!!

Mark is an excellent teacher. He helped me correct my stand and holding the violin and hand position which has me playing much better. We had to back up to the basics but that will help me be a better violinist. He also has been flexiable about changing dates and time to fit my needs. I recommend him to anyone!

Anna T.

Lawrenceville, GA

About Anna

I have played piano for 20 years and sang almost as long. I had professional voice lessons from Daniela Opravialova, retired opera singer, for 6 years and have performed on local stages in several leading roles. I am a proficient sight reader who participated in All State Chorus for 6 years and was awarded the music departmental plaque for the class of 2004. I have a focus on opera, musical theater, folk, and intermediate piano.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a fairly laid back instructor who will focus on your improvements and showcase your talents through performances. I will use a variety
of curriculum varying from theory (to teach you how to read your music) to vocal techniques and performance pieces. In a few months I will have your vocal range strengthened and you will play piano with more confidence. I will start with your lowest ability and work up to more difficult pieces whether in piano, voice, or both.

Singing · In studio
Hi there Ms. Anna, I am hoping to have you as a teacher for singing lessons, but I have one request. My dad doesn't want to pay using his credit card, so is there any way we can pay using checks or cash? I would really like for you to be my singing instructor. Please email me at lanbui0430@gmail.com as soon as you make up your mind, thank you very much! Hopefully you read this review, as I didn't know any other way to reach you.

I had my first lesson singing lesson ever as well as my first lesson with Ms. Anna yesterday. Ms. Anna is a great instructor who makes her students feel comfortable to learn, make mistakes and grow without any pressure to be perfect. She listens to what her students want from their experience and sets goals to better help you achieve them. Overall Ms.Anna is a great instructor who I would recommend to anyone wishing to learn or better themselves as a singer.

Wonderful voice teacher for my daughter

Anna has a beautiful voice and works with my daughter on the music she wants to sing, but also encourages her work with many other different types of music as well to broaden her experience. My daughter's voice has gotten stronger, her range has increased and she has become much more confident since she has been working with Anna. She looks forward to her voice lessons every week.

Lark S.

Lawrenceville, GA

About Lark

I absolutely love music and teaching it to others! Having studied both clarinet and piano at the University of Georgia, I am patient and encouraging with both children and adults. I have taught piano, clarinet, and alto saxophone for several years and have children of my own; so I understand that each person is an individual and has different needs and strengths. I am also the Beginning Band Director with the Athens Area Homeschool Band and assist with solo festivals and auditions and have played with the Gwinnett Community Band. I enjoy teaching beginning students as well as more advanced
students. It is such a huge joy to see a student grow in their understanding of music and gain the confidence that comes with it!

*** Lesson Details ***
Please note that weekly lessons are recommended for all students. Lessons typically last for a half hour, possibly longer for more advanced students or adults. Also, it is expected for all students to practice throughout the week, therefore it is essential that each student has an instrument before beginning lessons.

For my young beginning pianists, I use the Bastien method books which start with being able to identify the notes and keys on the piano and then move to reading music on the staff. I am very patient and encouraging with young students. My goal is for them to be able to identify the notes on the keyboard, find the correct hand position, and play a few simple songs within two to three months. After six months, they will be playing songs while reading notes on the staff. They may also participate in the Spring Recital and Christmas Recital. *Please note, that I expect all beginners to have a piano or keyboard to practice on before beginning lessons. (Please look under Studio Equipment to see details and suggestions.)

For my adult beginning pianists, I use a lesson series by Alfred which combines music theory with the lesson songs and exercises. At the beginning they jump right into reading music, and within three months, the student will be able to play some nice songs. After six months, basic chords will have been introduced and they will be able play more complicated songs.

For my more advanced piano students, I use the Faber lesson series. With all students, I include music theory in each lesson, but the Faber series goes into more depth. It also covers a variety of music genres, including ragtime, jazz and classical. Also, depending on the individual, I will begin to incorporate some classical pieces as soon as they are ready. I'm always open to knowing what a student likes and pursuing songs that they will enjoy playing, particularly as they become more accomplished!

With my clarinet and alto saxophone students, I focus on scales and arpeggios, help them with songs that they are working on in band, and provide supplemental exercises, duets, or solos for them to play. I also help prepare students for middle school and high school district and all-state auditions by working on the scales, etudes, and sight reading and encourage them to participate in the Spring Music Recital.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a piano, keyboard, clarinet, and alto saxophone that I use for teaching, but I expect my students to have their own instrument before beginning lessons. A keyboard is fine for beginning piano students; it is not necessary to have a piano. I will be happy to recommend models and brands of keyboards to new piano students. Keyboards need to have full size keys and be 'touch sensitive' or have the 'grand piano touch', meaning how hard you press the keys will determine how loud it will sound. Some Yamaha models I recommend are: PSR E333, PSR E423, YPG 235, and EZ 220.

*** Specialties ***
I use Bastien piano method books with my younger (early elementary) piano students, and prefer the Faber piano method series with my older piano students (upper elementary through high school) which includes a variety of songs, ear training, transposing, and more music theory. With advanced piano students, I primarily focus on a variety of Classical music in addition to songs that may be of interest to them. With my adult piano students, I use the Alfred adult series which contains popular and classical songs that they may be familiar with. Each method includes music theory. I prefer teaching piano from first grade and up through adults, but have taught some five year old students as well.

I am familiar with the "Essential Elements" and "Standard of Excellence" method series for both clarinet and saxophone. I teach beginning to advanced clarinet and beginning to intermediate alto saxophone. I am classically trained on the clarinet although I enjoy playing and teaching a variety of genres.

Patient and Knowledgeable

Lark has turned out to be a good fit for my learning style. Trying to learn as an adult can be challenging and frustrating... And I am sure it can be a substantial test for the teacher as well. Lark has been very patient and understanding as well as very encouraging. Her lesson notes are extremely helpful as I prepare for each week's lesson. She knows her stuff and also knows how to create a good environment for the student. I am having a good experience indeed.

Flexible teaching style

Lark is extremely flexible with her teaching style. As a middle aged adult who has never read a note of music, I don't have a lot of patience with starting at the very beginning. I want to start playing songs I am interested in immediately. Lark manages to work this music into her lesson so that I keep my interest. I would recommend her to anyone who is just starting out.

I love the fact that Brandon preforms in the band at our church. My daughter is learning the guitar in a safe and convenient location. The pricing is fine and I see how much my daughter looks forward to practicing and impressing Brandon at her lesson. We will continue as long as she is happy and challenged musically .

Steve F.

Lawrenceville, GA

About Steve

Steve was born in Joliet, IL and at the young age of 10, he discovered his love of music. A music program for his class with “live” musicians playing real instruments ignited his life long vocation. From that day to this, his fascination with music has only gotten stronger. After 5 years of accordion lessons Steve began to take an interest in the guitar and started taking lessons. Through the years Steve has not only developed a love for the guitar, but the love of teaching the guitar. At 22, he got into his first road band and spent the next 8 years playing concerts sharing the stage with man
y of the great “name” bands on tour as well. Bands such as Blood, Sweat & Tears, Sugarloaf and Iron Butterfly are just a few to mention.

When he came off the road Steve and his brother opened a music store and he began teaching the guitar. Steve keeps the student in mind and creates a way to make the lessons fun and interesting. When Steve was offered a gig as Billy Joe Royal’s guitarist it was back on the road. Steve has also done road work with such notables as The Classics IV and Archie Bell. After the tours Steve opened a recording studio and for many years he played on many artists original songs playing guitar, keyboard and bass guitar as needed, as well as doing the engineering on the tracks. During this time Steve began to rekindle his love of teaching guitar and began accepting students again. Steve says, “Teaching is one of the most enjoyable aspects of music”. When he finally closed the studio down he maintained a number of students and still does. Today, Steve also performs regularly with The Erin Hill Band.
