Kayla S.

Arlington, TX

About Kayla

I'm a young, enthusiastic piano teacher living in the Arlington area. My musical journey started when I was 10 years old when I received my first piano lesson. Since then, I have been studying piano with several amazing teachers, including some that have studied at the top music institutions in the nation, such as Eastman School of Music, University of North Texas, and the Peabody Institute. At current, I am finishing my Bachelor's in Music Media at the University of Texas at Arlington and have also obtained a Associate of Arts degree from Tarrant County College.

*** Lesson Details ***
I a
m a fairly laid back teacher, however I do expect my students to practice. After 3-6 months with me, you will have learned how to read music, learned all basic piano terms, and how to execute most basic piano techniques. Whether you have dreams of playing in concert halls or just for your friends in your bedroom, I am confident that I can help you get there!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to provide a piano(not an electric keyboard) with 88 working keys, a metronome, and music books.

*** Specialties ***
In piano, I specialize in classical music. I teach from every period of music(Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary).

Kayla as an instructor is great. However, she is unprofessional. She is ALWAYS (and this is no exaggeration) 10-20 minutes late for lessons. Most of the time without notification or apology. The proverbial "straw" was after we had to reschedule a lesson due to her being out of town. We scheduled a 1:45 lesson. It was 2 and I haven't heard from her. After a text, she said she could be there in about 20 minutes because a previous lesson ran over or reschedule. I opted to keep the lesson since I arranged my schedule to fit a lesson. She was supposed to be at my home at 2:20 and it was 2:50 before she showed up. Prior to her arrival, I did send a text that we needed to discuss our schedule. Upon her arrival, she told me that most parents give her a 15 min grace period. This is not listed in her description or was it discussed prior to lessons. I explained the value of professionalism and punctuality. If she is late, it sets my schedule off. I offered a resolution: that we can set the new time to 1:45 since that's the time she arrives anyway. She STILL wanted this "grace period." I offered to cancel my lessons, but she said she would be here Friday at our new scheduled time. Later that night, I sent a text explaining that our talk should move us in a positive direction. She informed me that she took my daughter off her roster shortly after she left my home. Let's be reminded, this was AFTER she said she would be here Friday. That is unprofessional. She is obviously unable to accept being told what is expected for a PAID service. I hope she learns the value of customer service, professionalism, and consideration of others.

Ben H.

Euless, TX

About Ben

Hello, my name is Ben and GUITAR IS MY BUSINESS...AND MY BUSINESS IS GOOD so please consider me. I've been playing guitar for over 18 years and have been in playing bands for 12 years. Recently after the band broke up, I decided to further my education and went to Musicians Institute in Hollywood California. There I was taught by the best guitar players in the world. Marty Friedman, Paul Gilbert, Scott Henderson, Tommy Emmanuel and Johnny Hiland were just a few of the great players who gave clinics there. I received a degree in Guitar Performance and the knowledge I received there made me UNDE
RSTAND the mystery that is the guitar.

I can teach Rock/Metal, Country (lead and rhythm), Blues, Alternative, Acoustic, Classical, Chord Melody, Melodic Soloing, Twang, Chords, Scales, Modes, Many different lead and rhythm techniques and more importantly any song you want to go over.

I feel learning to play your favorite songs is the most important and the most fun about guitar playing. After playing songs, some of the information given (scales, chords, theory, ear-training) starts to make some since and you begin to slowly figure the guitar out.

Theory and Ear-training I feel are very important to learn when trying to understand music. It just gives you a basic mathematical way of understanding how music works. It can be very frustrating to learn and takes some time to sink in so if you don't want to learn it then that is great. Ear-training is cool because when you start to understand it you can actually hear music and not just listen to it. You can listen to a chord progression on the radio and go home and play it and also improvise over it.

I encourage BEGINNERS through EXPERT to at least hear what I have to say. I have A LOT of information to give about the guitar. I played for ten years made 2 demo CDs, one full length album, another demo specifically for Metal Blade Records, was in a big cover band and so I thought I knew it all and was a great guitar player. Then I went to GUITAR SCHOOL in Hollywood and reality hit me.
I wasn't as good as I thought. When you hear the best guitar players in the world everyday for a year and a half like I did at Musicians Institute it makes you want to be better and practice, practice, practice. I learned everything there about guitar and music and I know the Right way to teach.

Please consider me for your guitar teacher I will make it fun and a good learning experience as well.

Thank you,
Ben

*** Lesson Details ***
It depends on what level the student is on and that is where we will go with the lesson. If you are a beginner we will start with the very basics. I try to make it to where you can easily understand everything taught. The most important part of the lesson is you are having fun with playing the guitar and also getting as much information as possible. Upper level students may want to go over a song they are learning or want to know about theory or chords. Usually we will talk about where you are at with your playing and then go from there.

Thanks.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Acoustic and electric guitar PA system, small amplifier for student

*** Travel Equipment ***
Books and paper. They should have guitar and pick

*** Specialties ***
Teaching Rock, metal, country lead, blues, ear training, theory solo improvization. Scales and chords and how they go together. Melodic soloing and chord melody. Can teach out of a book and can read music. But most importantly have fun and learn cool songs

Patrick T.

Lewisville, TX

About Patrick

Having studied music for just over twelve years, I am passionate about teaching others to experience and understand music to their fullest. I believe that interaction with the arts is an invaluable part of any persons educational and social being. Beyond all of the technicalities of music education, it is important for students to be able to enjoy and appreciate the music that they spend so much time studying. My lessons are highly focused in music theory, understanding, and appreciation. Music has played a huge role in the development of my own life and I absolutely love sharing that experien
ce with others.

About me, I am a graduate from the College of Music at the University of North Texas in Denton with a Bachelor of Arts in Music. My most recent studies in music have been highly focused on Worship Music concentrating on Piano and Voice and Music Theory. I am currently working towards a Masters in Divinity at the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth.

I am amazed on how fast I'm starting to catch on. I'm 44 and the adage of teaching an old dog new trick may be somewhat true but working with Jan is allowing me to develop how I need too. I'm excited to see what will be next.

Beth B.

Colleyville, TX

About Beth

In May 2011, I graduated from Texas Woman's University with my Bachelor's Degree in Music and a minor in Business Management. Music has been my passion since before I started taking piano lessons in third grade and there was an innate desire to master the keys. At age fifteen, I taught myself how to play guitar and started writing songs. In 2013, I became a published songwriter when my songs were produced on my church's Christmas Album ("Who Is This King?").

I have been teaching private piano lessons part-time from my home in Colleyville for four years. My students range from young beginner
s to intermediate and advanced students, to beginner and moderate adults. Teaching is my greatest passion, whether it's of the classical genre, theory mastery, or equipping a student to use their gifts in worship. I am looking forward to teaching full-time very soon so I can fully invest all my time and energy into the precious gifts of my students.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions and I will be happy to discuss. I believe with you that you'll find just the right instructor to impart to your family!
