Elizabeth L.

Lowell, MA

About Elizabeth

I am a lead guitar player and multi instrumentalist of over 15 years, and would love to teach you everything I know!

I have been studying music for over 20 years, through school and college, on my own, and with private instructors including Toby Walker, Anthony Wellington, and Buddy Charleton. I consider my main instrument to be guitar- I have been playing for about 16 years, and am comfortable in just about any professional situation on my instrument. I play lead guitar, rhythm, etc. We can go over many techniques and subjects to help you become more versatile and well rounded: including
ostinato picking, slide/open tunings, improvisation, and composition.

I also teach pedal steel guitar, I have studied for about 8 years, some of that time was with world renowned steel guitarist, Buddy Charleton.

Each lesson is eagerly tailored to the student's strengths and needs in order to help them learn to the best of their ability, and ultimately, have fun!

As a student of mine, you will come to understand that music is a language, and we want to give you the tools and resources that you need in order to speak and understand that language fluently. Prioritizing your interests and genres that you prefer, we will expand in areas where you seek improvement, as well as incorporating ear training, music theory, and new exercises and techniques specific to your skill level and instrument. Each lesson is tailored to each student's learning style. From reading music and ear training, to writing counterpoint and mastering improvisational techniques, together we will find ways to help you grow as a musician. :)

*** Lesson Details ***
When we schedule our first lesson, I will ask you a few questions about your interests, goals in taking lessons, and your priorities related to music. This way, I can be sure to tailor the lesson to meet your expectations and goals.

Generally, my lessons lean towards feeling laid back, and no pressure... along with positive energy and passion for music!

Curriculum is catered to the student, and based on student goals and priorities. Jazz studies will differ from studying rock n roll, as well as classical, etc. Once we have an introductory lesson, I will be able to review with you the materials, passages, postures, techniques, and music we will be working with. You always are encouraged to have a say in what you want to learn, whether it is your 1st or your 50th lesson.

***Skype Equipment Needed***
Computer, good internet connection, instrument, 1 hour

*** Travel Equipment Liz will provide/student can provide***
guitars, metronome, recording device

*** Specialties ***
I teach beginner, intermediate, and advanced students in genres including jazz, rock, metal, classical, funk, blues, country, pop, and more, on a handful of instruments including lead guitar, rhythm guitar, slide guitar, ukulele, and pedal steel guitar.

I've been taking lessons from teacher Liz for a couple of years now but I've also had the chance to meet and play with all the other teachers as well. These are wonderful people dedicated to helping you discover or improve your inner musician. I've gone from complete beginner to being able to play and lead songs in the group jam sessions under their tutelage. It's been a great journey and I could not have asked for better inspiration and guidance. I'd give then more stars if it was an option.

I have been taking lessons with Liz for about a year and a half. She is an amazing teacher! I am fortunate to have an instructor who knows my interests and goals as it relates to music. I have always had a passion for music, and Liz has made me realize that my passion can only grow further as I am learning how to create music on my own. She is encouraging and patient and knows just when and how to challenge me to reach the next step in my journey. It has been life changing. I can't thank her enough!

Jake is quite good. He is easy to talk to and understands what I expect
to get from these lessons. We discussed aspects of learning which included
how to hold the guitar, hand position, etc. He gave me exercises to
practice and we played together given what I already know. I enjoyed the
first lesson very much and would recommend him.

Dominic M.

Derry, NH

About Dominic

Hello, I am 25 years old from Derry NH. I have been playing drums for many years, but I have been a serious, practicing drummer, since December 2014. I have recently taken up piano in September 2015. I spend an average of 4-6 hours everyday practicing between the two instruments. Usually two hours each. Occasionally much more. I am very knowledged in the craft of practicing and love to share my knowledge of drums, drumming, piano and music in general. I am currently enrolled at northern Essex community college (necc) as a music performance major with plans of transferring to New England Conser
vatory (NEC) in Boston or Southern University of New York, (suny Purchase). I have taken lessons from many teachers to learn as much as I can. Music is my passion, and sharing that with others brings me great joy.

Dom has been such an amazing music instructor! My whole life I've never thought I'd be able to learn an instrument or music in general, but he has helped me so much with it! Dom is very welcoming and friendly which eases away any stress I might have from trying to learn something new. If it weren't for him and his upbeat attitude I wouldn't have the motivation I do now. He makes it easy to understand with his years of experience and is very supportive and understanding if you're having a hard time. If you don't have Dom as your instructor, you will definitely regret it!

Brandon D.

Townsend, MA

About Brandon

Hi! Thanks for checking out my TakeLessons profile. In the past 20 years of teaching, I've taught hundreds of students how to play the guitar, and I'm proud of every single one of them! Some have gone on to become teachers themselves, some have gone on to become successful performers, and all have developed a wonderful hobby to last a lifetime! Thanks to some of the wonderful teachers that I had the privilege of studying under; both as a young high school student, then later at the college level at Berklee and Umass, I've developed a broad range of influences to enhance my own music creativit
y, as well as to relate to the needs of students of all different backgrounds. I'm equally as experienced working with children, teens, and adults of all levels. I do have some experience working with people with learning disabilities such as adhd and Aspergers. I look forward to the opportunity to help you or your child learn the guitar, and answer all of your questions!

My son starting taking lessons from Brandon when he was 9 years old and continues to this day at age 14. Brandon keeps him thoroughly engaged and focused and easily tailors his lesson to his style of learning. He plays to his interests and teaches him songs from his favorite bands. He loves his rock camp in the summer where he puts together a band of musicians for the week. His passion for teaching is evident and his connection has been invaluable to my son's growth and confidence in music. I would highly recommend Brandon.

I have been taking lessons for about 4 1/2 years with Brandon and it could not have been a greater experience for me. I started at the age of 41 without ever playing guitar before. I now know how to play several songs and am able to do some singing also. I have always loved listening to music and to now be able to play songs, and to do it well, is all because of him. He is able to get the most out of his students with his teaching and making it a lot of fun.
