About Murray

My musical career started at age 3 when my parents placed a pair of drum sticks in my hands. I started playing drums in church and then progressed to play in middle school where I was part of the jazz band and orchestra. With some very early lessons, I begin to blossom into a skillful drummer. I then continued to play in bands in high school and, in addition, became a member of the Milford Mill Academy Marching Band. In my sophomore year, I became the section leader of the drum line where I played & mastered the snare drum. I have 2 degrees in music theory from Deer Park Magnet school and Morg
an State University. I have performed with many bands from all different musical genres such as gospel, funk, pop, jazz, blues, rock, Latin, reggae, and R&B. In 2004 I became the only drumming instructor at The Psalms of David School Of Music. In 2011 I started and became the principle of the New Antioch Baptist Church School of Music. I have recorded with a variety of musical artists and currently plays full time at the New Antioch Baptist Church of Randallstown. In 2012, I recorded my first DVD entitled, "Piper's Time 2 Groove". Throughout the last 27 years of my drumming career, I still have the passion and fun as if it were day 1. Within the last 16 years, I have taken that same passion for playing and have transferred that energy into all of my students. I welcome all students any age, any skill level. Hope to have you as a new student very soon!

*** Lesson Details ***
My students will quickly learn the basics of drumming, including: stick control, technique, rhythms, drum fills, and licks. It does not matter if you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced drummer. The same time and effort will be exercised. We will have a fun and meaningful time playing, both by ear and by reading music. These lessons will really be hands on using teaching methods such as music books, DVD’s, and playing of my own. Students will have a great time also studying music theory, learning how to assemble the drum set, learning the parts of the drums, how to tune the drums, and how to accompany other musical instruments. After 3 to 6 months taking lessons, all students will be well on their way to a very successful musical career having had such fun and learning to play all different styles of music. My motto: Lets play Good, get Better, and be our Best!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Finished basement: (2) drum sets, small studio, recording equipment, seating for students & guest.

My son was very impressed, asked why we had been taking drum lessons from his local instructor for so long. He was reticent before the lesson saying that he wasn't sure that our internet connection would be good enough, saying that he wasn't sure we could really do a lesson online instead of face to face. He came out of his room after the lesson and said he loved it, and that it worked really well, that our connection was just fine, and that he could hear everything on both sides. He was very happy with the result. He is really happy to have a clear goal of playing snare on the drum line in marching band, and he's very happy about having an instructor who can really help him to get there. Great experience so far!

Wilma Evangeline B.

Bowie, MD

For past 8 years, I've been teaching students Pre K- 8th grade to play percussion instruments to create a rhythm and keep a beat. They were taught to explore different percussion instruments. As a music student, you'll learn about drums, tambourines, xylophones, and other instruments you strike, shake, or rub to make music. You will also learn the types and parts of percussion instruments and then explore how pitch changes based on the size of the air column.

Our experience has been very positive. My granddaughter is making good progress and is enjoying lessons. She has only had four lessons, but is doing well. The teacher is very encouraging and low key.

Nathan R.

Windsor Mill, MD

I can teach set playing as well as concert percussion, including classical snare, marimba, vibraphone, etc.

About Nathan

I have been teaching private lessons for close to 10 years and have been an active performer for even longer, playing in all different types of groups, from rock bands and jazz groups to orchestras and brass bands. I studied music at Frostburg State University (Bachelors) and the Peabody Conservatory (Masters). I can teach just about any age and skill level and cover anything you are interested in learning; whether its a certain style, genre, technique or song.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are laid back, with a focus on perfecting the basics. Most students work out of a method book a
ppropriate to their skill level. Aside from that we'll also spend time learning songs and pieces of the students choice. With the right amount of effort, you'll know your way around your instrument in no time at all

*** Travel Equipment ***
Will provide sheet music and exercises. My students should have a working instrument as well as any method book or sheet music we are working on.

*** Specialties ***
I teach all styles and genres

As an over 50 student who use to be somewhat decent at playing the piano 30 years ago, I was fairly nervous about starting up again, as well as somewhat skeptical that lessons would really help. But after a few months with Nathan I can say that they are definitely helping and I feel lucky to have found him. Nathan is not only knowledgeable but has an excellent instinct regarding what I need in an instructor. I feel confident he would be able to adapt his style to any type of student of any age range or ability level.

Nathan is an EXCELLENT piano teacher! He's encouraging, not at all upset when I clearly haven't practiced,
and is a pleasure to be with. He is gifted in the way he seems just the right teacher for me, though I'm sure he's as fine a teacher for others who have their own individual approaches to learning to play the piano.

Randy W.

Odenton, MD

Students will be shown proper techniques and fundamentals if starting out, or suggest corrections to technique for further improvement. Music reading for those who need/want to know how, and a thorough understanding of musical theory necessary for the applications studied. Let's face it, drumming/percussion is fun and you get out of it what you put into it. I will continually try to motivate you to practice and improve, so that you can share in the enjoyment I have from learning such a fun skill.

About Randy

I graduated the University of Houston in 1985 with a degree in Music Education specializing in percussion. Whether symphonic, pop-rock, rudimental, Scottish, Celtic or world styles I am proficient and hope to be your instructor. I have taught privately for 30 years, been a band director, performer, including producing 10 albums with my band - The Rogues - and was a member of the Hamilton Pipe Band in Houston when they were the first bagpipe band from the United States to win the World Pipe Band Competition in Grade 3. I also have experience as a drum and bugle corps instructor.

I've had the privilege of being Randy's Bodhran student. He has a gift for understanding how to construct the lessons around his students abilities so they can grasp the concept and skill needed to move forward in their lessons.

I was very nervous as I had never played any type of drum before but his ability to set his students at ease was apparent from lesson one.

I highly recommend Randy as an instructor.
