Olises N.

West Covina, CA

About Olises

Olises N. began formally learning drums at age 12 when he attended Washington Irving Junior High School.
Having received a strong musical foundation under the direction of Ms. Lynn Johnson-Lang, he went on to being accepted into the Hamilton Music Academy/Humanities Magnet school in Culver City. Under the direction of David Sears (Senior Director at The Grammy Foundation) and a "whose who" of visiting artists, Olises' basics were sharpened, his musical horizons expanded and his passion and admiration for teaching were fueled.
Olises' first teaching experience was at a local high sch
ool where he was asked by the music director to teach a summer drums/percussion course.
He continued to perform, travel, and record with many groups while attending Pasadena City College where he studied music theory, piano, classical percussion with Ken McGrath and further Jazz performance with the legendary Bobby Bradford.
Today, Olises continues to enrich his students by bringing over 20 years of successful music instruction to every teaching session. His lessons are informed by his 25 plus years of professional performing and recording experience. Olises is not only an experienced drummer, but also a gifted, caring teacher with a passion and insight that has tangibly improved the playing of many aspiring and working drummers.

*** Lesson Details ***
Olises customizes a curriculum for every student depending upon each student's individual goals. Whether it be reading, independence, or technique he will offer you insights that will help improve those areas. He chooses from a variety of techniques, exercises, and materials that he uses to build his curriculum for you. Many of his students have enjoyed marked improvements in their playing just after their first session! His style is as a matter of factual, positive and makes you feel like there's nothing you can't do!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music/recording studio w/ piano and drum kits and mics w/ seating for parents

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in Jazz, Afro-Latin, Brazilian and Funk styles though I am familiar with many other styles. Aside from my own personalized methods I use and teach the Sanford Moeller and Billy Gladstone methods for technique and have learned to apply the Gary Chester method to my drumset playing.

Has a great deal of knowledge on overall music history and how percussion has developed through each of its stages. Appropriates style according to the interest of desired drummer and can demonstrate the relationships between student's preferred styles and how they relate to others. As a student this is very important because of its role in the development of ones own technique and style and how one can build on whats been done before.

About Lily

With a Masters in Music Performance from The Ohio State University, and an accredited Suzuki violin teacher from training program at The School for Strings, NYC. I have 6 years private teaching experience and 1 year group class teaching experience at Jefferson Academy at The Ohio State University. I am able to work with different ages of students with patience and passion.

*** Lesson Details ***
I use Suzuki violin books for beginners. In this series, I would like students to follow the order of each piece to build up their violin skill. I emphasize building a strong foundation of a good b
ody posture including bow-hold. For more advanced student, we can use Suzuki book 4 or above and other similar level repertoire to build up their musicality and the knowledge of each composer.

I've been teaching piano for 3 years. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to learn basic piano-playing posture and the basic knowledge on piano. As time goes on, you'll be able to reach to intermediate level. I typically use Faber piano book series.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Violin and music stand

*** Travel Equipment ***
I bring my violin with me, students should have their own instruments (violin/piano) and a music stand (for violin students).

Lily has been teaching violin to my 10 years old son for the past 10 months. We find her to be kind, patient, positive, and understanding. She is not overly strict nor critical, which fits well with my son's personality. She is mind-mannered so we do not feel pressure or discouraged when you are just learning and making mistakes. We are pleased with the progress my son has made in the past 10 months.

Hello, My name is Osmar Martinez.
If you are thinking on getting vocal lessons with Amy you will definitely won't regret it. I took lessons with Amy for 6 months. I was in need of vocal coaching due to big auditions I was going to have for several colleges' Musical Theatre programs (two of the best universities in Texas with Musical Theatre program to be exact) Abilene Christian University and Sam Houston State University. Amy helped me find my true voice and increase power into it. She has some great vocal tips with purpose of improving your singing. At first I thought online vocal lessons wouldn't work but at the end I was just glad I got to learn from her.
I apply every single tip she taught me into my daily vocal warmups and also into performing.
At the end I got accepted into both Universities. around 150 people audition for these schools and only 10 get accepted in each.
Now I am proud to announce that I will be attending a great school this coming fall starting my degree in Musical Theatre and even got a scholarship from the program. I thank Amy for her hard work, being part of this journey of auditioning for colleges with me and allowing me with great vocal coaching.

If I ever get a Tony I will mention Amy on my speech, Because of her now I am attending a great school to improve more than I already have with her.
