I teach violin at the New School for Leadership and the Arts, mostly to novice players, and I have experience teaching violin to children of all ages.

My primary instrument is guitar, which I've played for about 25 years in many different bands, styles, and genres. I studied music and classical guitar at University of Central Florida, and during that time I also helped teach violin to a class of third graders. I'm not a pro violinist, but I have plenty of experience working with novice players, helping them develop proper technique, sight reading, ear training, and other skills needed to advance to the next level.

My teaching philosophy is to provide each student the opportunity to find their passion, to understand who they are as an individual, and to create a sense of community within my studio family. Not only will I give them the tools they need to succeed musically, but most importantly, the tools they need to succeed in life. I want my students to be the best musicians they can be and to be the best versions of themselves that they can be. Abilities vary among each individual and I aim to take the time and the patience to understand and teach every student that comes my way. I am a patient, kind, and caring teacher who strives to show my students just how marvelous they can be.

Hello to each of you! My name is Corey, and I have been teaching for 31 years. My primary professional instrument is cello, but started on violin at the age of 7. As I progressed as a child I played violin in the school orchestra setting, and cello outside of the school systems. Like many of you I've been locked up in my home because of Covid19. What fun! Not really... but I have been enjoying teaching 24 of my current private students. Additionally, I have been teaching music at a Waldorf School in Portland Oregon for 22 years. My work at the school has decreased because of the crisis and now I've been moved to 1/2 time. I'm so excited to expand my teaching studio, and have the opportunity to meet you. I teach beginning and intermediate violin students. I studied violin at the Community Music Center in Portland, OR. My degree is BM in cello performance from Portland State University 1993, and I have studied (and/or had master classes) with Stephanie McDougal, Hamilton Cheifetz, Yo

I tailor my approach to each student. Some students require more technical work, some require interpretive. Both are fascinating and can be taught with structure and clarity.

I teach violin and viola lessons to students of all ages (including adults!) and skill levels. Lessons will be catered to you, whether you want to start from the beginning with Twinkle Twinkle Little Star or have a tune from the radio you've been wanting to learn. I believe learning to play an instrument is more than just learning notes and rhythms-- it's about developing yourself in all aspects of life. Here you can develop life skills including curiosity, dedication, responsibility, patience and so much more, all while having fun and enjoying yourself at the same time.

I have been playing violin since kindergarten, and I have experiences in teaching beginner students at SUNY Albany campus and I absolutely loved it! Music Performance was one of my majors of my undergraduate degrees, and I was fortunate enough to have an opportunity to perform a solo piece, Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in my senior year. I am currently enrolled in a Master's program for Intercultural Communication & English language education. Teaching has been one of my long-lasting passions and I am more than happy to work with various levels of violin learners. Hope to hear from you soon!!
