Karen's teaching style is very patient, nurturing, encouraging, and fun-loving. Karen is a teacher who sets loving but firm boundaries and guidelines. She implements structure and organization, but is not overly strict and harsh. She believes in encouraging, loving, and imparting knowledge with her students so that they will maximize their potentiality and their inner musical stars will shine.
Karen teaches piano, voice, guitar, and music theory for beginning through intermediate (for voice she teaches beginning through advanced). The curriculum that Karen uses is varied according to the student's personality and learning level. She uses her vast knowledge and information from her education and past experiences, and also Alfred Essentials of Music Theory, Alfred's Instructional books, Hal Leonard Pro-vocal Series, Faber Piano Adventures for all levels, and other resources. She also uses an assignment lesson plan book so that each student will know her clear objectives, what is expected of them and so that communication is established with the student's parents if the student is under 18. Additionally, Karen uses incentives, a point system, and rewards for self-discipline, consistent practicing, musical accomplishment and growth, and a good attitude.
Karen's students learn and perform remarkably well because of her very loving, organized, and comprehensive teaching style. They progress in amazing ways on a weekly and monthly basis. They look forward to coming to their lessons because they are treated with such respect and care. They know that Karen has such a passion and love for music, which is so contagious and is passed on to them. Therefore, these music lessons are enjoyable and enriching for the teacher and student alike.

In August of 2012 I began teaching piano on a part-time basis. My teaching philosophy has always been to make sure the students understand why and not just how to perform something. I emphasize music theory along with piano lessons and expect the students to take the time to practice every week. I have taught children of all ages from 4 to 16 years old.

I've been singing since I was about 8. I began to play piano when I was a teenager, because many of my classmates were very skilled at the piano, and I became inspired to be like them.
What are your personal goals as a musician?:
I love opera, and my goal is to compose my own. I plan on working closely with the librettist, since I'm a poet as well.
Do you have a memory of a time when a musical concept or technique really clicked? Something you'll remember forever?:
I never knew what perfect pitch was until I was much older. I also didn't realize I had perfect pitch until a professor at an audition made me aware of my ability. Since then, it's become a wonderful tool.
What is your favorite piece of advice from one of your past (or current) teachers?:
What was your most challenging moment learning an instrument?:
In the winter months, my body feels tight and cold, and sometimes this causes tension during playing or singing. That's why to me it's important to work in a warm environment, do proper daily stretching, and have a healthy lifestyle (good diet, exercise, proper sleep).
What is your biggest musical achievement?:
Composing a fugue.
Favorite thing about teaching?:
I love sharing my passion for music with other human beings.
What is a piece of advice you would like to share with anyone learning music?:
If at first you don't succeed, try try again. Music is meant to be fun, enjoy it!
Personal music projects: i.e. bands, groups, shows, recording, etc. (if any):
In 2015, I composed the music for my sister's walk down the aisle (wedding piece). Additional compositions underway, member of American Composer's Forum, member of Contemplum (composition club at Temple), participant in the Oticons Film Score Contest.
Anabelle has been involved with sounds and music from an early age. Her greatest forte is her hearing. When she was young, people thought she might become a voice actor, because her skill at replicating voices was quite apparent. Still, she loved to sing and had been regularly involved in choirs. She dabbled in violin in the fifth grade, but she didn't feel a "click." Without despairing, she tried her luck with piano and felt instantly in sync. She knew this was the right instrument for her. During her piano studies, she continued to work on her voice. In addition, she studied the workings of a sound board, and was head sound chief at her high school. At the college level, she began to pursue composition, while still continuing with piano and vocal studies. She holds an A.A. with a music focus (piano performance), a B.M. in music theory, and a M.M in music education from Boston University. She has been teaching music since 2006 and has worked with a wide range of ages and various group sizes. Her joy is working with people in a field that she is passionate about. Her interests include music (jazz, classical, opera, new age), ballet, composition, yoga, meditation, going to the gym, hiking and camping, scuba-diving, sailing,Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture, cooking and baking, film-editing, sound engineering, poetry, reading good books, building websites, and watching documentaries.

It is never too late…..to learn and speak Spanish as a native!
Are you tired of learning spanish but still struggling to speak it, or don't feel confident? Is speaking Spanish a GOAL for you or your kiddo? Nothing better than learning it from a native person.
Spanish is my first language and have been speaking it fluently my whole life and I lived in Spain for more than 30 years. Spanish is a fun and easy going language to me and I commit to teach you what you are looking for!
Let's get started!
Hello! My name is Meritxell, but you can call me Meri (easier and shorter)! I was born and raised in Barcelona (Spain), but have been living abroad for the past 7 years (Brazil, US).
During these years living abroad, apart from my job as a pharmacist, I started teaching Spanish classes
I recently moved here to Scottsdale (AZ), and I want to continue helping people to gain confidence with Spanish. Is something I love doing! And seeing how people feel when they improve in a foreign language is great!
• Private individual Spanish tutoring or Small group class – Kids/youths/Adults
• In-home or office tutoring (or public library or cafe) for Scottsdale and Phoenix.
• Online classes
First of all is important for me to know which are your goals with learning Spanish to be able to adapt the classes to your specific needs. Whether you need Spanish for business, for your kid who is at school or just for the fun of learning a new language and culture, I will adapt the learning to your needs, level and interest topics. I will create a program 100% adapted to your passions and projects. When you learn things with passion, it always seems easier! I will tailor every class to your level, beginner, intermediate or advanced and I will show you key words, expressions, how to build sentences, main differences between both languages and common mistakes.
Español para niños!! / Spanish for kids!!
Is your kid already taking lessons but feels lost and need some tutoring to improve and help him with homework? Or do you want him to start learning Spanish from scratch?
My approach when it comes to tutoring Spanish to children is Total Immersion. ). I am married and have two girls (aged 6-8yo) who are bilingual Spanish-English, and also learnt native Portuguese while being in Brazil. So our house is always switching from one language to another, although our main language is Spanish. I have experienced at home total immersion learning since they were born and is the best way to learn a new language, especially for kids who learn things so fast! It has been my experience that we need to make the learning experience fun for kids. The kid will be exposed to the new language and will be able to talk it as a native. I teach Spanish "through playing", which means the kids are engaged in different interactive hands-on and conversational games, which makes it fun for them.
“No dejes para mañana lo que puedes hacer hoy!”
Es hora de aprender español! Hands-on!
Nos vemos pronto!
