Please see my profile for more information on piano. This subject is at the foundation of my teaching. Learning 'piano' can mean a number of things from straight sight-reading to improvisation. Learn from an expert teacher with years of experience. I have a unique method cultivated through years of dedicated exploration of various methods.

About Marty
Open up to your own unique voice. Play piano with energy and freedom.

"With singing, your body is your instrument. Helping you become all you can be as a performer is my number one goal. Protecting your voice is a close second as we work to strengthen your vocal range and the quality of your sound. As well, piano students will learn techniques that will speed up their comprehension of sight reading and/or improvisation. Teaching gives me an opportunity to energize my students and share with them historically proven techniques - as well as new ways of practicing and performing." - Marty

Originally from Boulder, Colorado, Marty moved to the Phoenix, AZ area eight years ago. Marty has over 20 years of performing and teaching experience. She studied for three years at the School of Music, University of Colorado, Boulder. She has studi
ed in the Masters program in vocal pedagogy and has performed in a variety of venues from blues to opera.

You will find her pedagogy technique to be respectful of the masters that have come before her. She is also open to new techniques from belting (in popular music), to microphone usage skills. As a student, you will be invited to perform in student recitals. You will be joining a team of dedicated, passionate performers who know the pleasure of performing.

As a beginning and intermediate piano instructor, Marty will guide you in the basics of sight reading. If you prefer, your piano classes will consist primarily of improvisation and chord progressions (you will also learn a little bit of sight reading which will help you 'flesh out' the melody). You will gain a solid foundation in music theory as well as an introduction into the vast world of music history. All age ranges are welcome, from the beginning elementary student, to the retiree just now finding the time to pursue their passion to perform.

I have authored a variety of music theory articles to assist you with your progress. We use these in the lessons to speed up your assimilation of the material. You will receive support via this literature and will quickly recognize how music theory supports your efforts with either singing or playing the piano.

*** Lesson Details ***
Your voice is unique to you. How you currently sing and what you want to sing will be the foundation from which we work. We will explore your voice and strengthen it via breath and physical exercises and practice with a repertoire that suits your individual tastes. We will also prepare your mind for quick and fluid articulation of your musical sensitivities.

Music theory and various musical explorations will assist you in moving forward in the most rapid manner possible. Whether you are twelve years old or sixty-five, you will find fun as well as perceptive methods for strengthening your passion for musical performance.

Since your body is your instrument, I am very conscious of the need to assist you in waking your body up in order to perform most successfully. The warm-up exercises include not only traditional vocalizes, but also methods for stretching your body and strengthening your diaphragmatic breathing. My students become very aware of any residual tension in their bodies. Singing is a wonderful way to get in touch with - and expel - any way in which you might 'close down' or 'tense down' your physical body. By working with a caring professional, you will learn how to freely share your unique talent with the world.

As we progress through the series of classes, you will use breathing exercises to activate the thoracic (throat & chest) and visceral (stomach) cavities. Your lessons will continue into specific vocalization exercises; such as singing scales, triads and specific exercises to assist you with fluid musical expression. Traditional ear training will also be a part of the lessons for intermediate students.

Many of the lessons I teach include a theme of working on confidence, vocal projection, breath support, finding and releasing tension, vocal range expansion, audition preparation and stage performance. All singing includes a core of story-telling. You will be encouraged to 'deconstruct' a song and discover the story, along with the emotions that are found in the lyrics of the songs you will sing.

______________________

In a similar fashion, my piano students will work on exercises to establish kinesthetic learning or muscle-memory. I have a unique method for sharing chord-progressions and piano improvisation. You will learn to quickly share music in a satisfying and pleasing manner that will surprise you and the people who hear your music. From your unique 'ear,' and via your new-found understanding of music theory, music will pour out of your piano.

As a piano student, you will also be exposed to lessons of the masters who have taught for hundreds of years. Sight-reading at the piano is a very enjoyable skill. It is also a foundation from which we will work (while taking in mind your particular interests). Again, whether a pre-teen or a senior citizen (or anyone in between!) who has finally found the time to explore their musical talent - you will find classes uniquely suited to your musical trajectory.

Your lessons will proceed as you acquire the ability to successfully perform your exercises and musical literature. Playing the piano fluidly and sharing your abilities with others is an amazing experience! It is my intent to ensure that your progress is swift, enjoyable and based on the work of the masters who have come before us! See you soon... Cordially, Marty W.

I have been taking lessons from Marty for about 4 months. I was looking for someone that could come to my house. I had suffered a hemorrhagic stroke about 18 months ago and needed someone special. Marty is definitely that person. She is kind, patient and understands my disability. I took lessons as a child and come from a musical family and she has restored confidence in my ability to play the piano. My hand/brain coordination has improved greatly. She has incorporated some music theory techniques that really work for me. I am very lucky to have found Marty.

Piano is the perfect instrument for understanding how music works. Learn to read and play melodies, scales, chords, and put them together into songs as quickly as possible. Techniques for strength and coordination, reading music, and theory.
Lay a solid foundation to develop your musical creativity.

About Aaron
Teaching drums professionally since 1998, Aaron has influenced hundreds of budding musicians to get the most from their instrument. He has studied privately with Rob Laytham (Modern Drummer columnist), Joe Leroux (marching band guru), Gary Chaffe (legendary drummer) and many others throughout the years. He has taken the best techniques and teaching styles from his influences and molded them together to form what he considers to be the most effective and inspiring method available.

I teach drum set in nearly every style and hybrid imaginable, as well as percussion and drum circle facilitation.

Accomplishments include recording 7 albums with various groups, touring with national acts across the west coast, drumming for the Warner Brothers Television house band, and still actively playing live shows and recording.

*** Lesson Deta
ils ***
I put my focus on inspiring students to explore their own creativity with the tools and techniques that I give to them and nurture.
I think it is very important to cover the basic skills that the school districts expect from their music students (sight reading, proper technique, note recognition, rudiments, timing, feel, etc.).
I also feel it is important for a student to find his or her style and an ability to use the fundamentals to create music that they enjoy.
He has written a method book based on the fundamentals of playing a rhythmic instrument with an emphasis on allowing the student to find their niche and lead a group through a piece of music or tastefully support it.

My studios are fully equipped with sound systems, the latest recording gear, acoustic and electric sets, hand drums and dozens of other percussion instruments. I believe that the more resources a person can draw from, be it intellectual or physical, the more fulfilling the learning experience will be.

Each lesson, my students will take at least a page of music that represents the concept that they are focusing on, and a goal set to accomplish by the end of the week so that they can build upon what they already know in an effort to put the big picture together. Ultimately the student will learn when and how to utilize the concepts that they are practicing.

*** Studio Equipment ***
A Yamaha electronic drum set in my Mesa Studio allows me to control volume and dial up any sound imaginable. I have full acoustic drum sets in other studios that I use for recording and private lessons. Often I will integrate guitar, keyboard, or other instruments in to the lessons if needed.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Sticks, Practice Pad, tuning kit, binder and books with teaching supplements.

*** Specialties ***
Music, Drums, Percussion, Theory, Composition, Piano and Guitar.
Drummers should be well versed in all genres of music. Rock, Jazz, Latin, Swing, etc.
Most of my students begin with concert and marching styles on a practice pad, then advance to the drum set.
I teach note recognition and placement, rudiments, linear playing, moeller method, rhythm theory, sub-division of notes and time, and the sight-reading to support these techniques.

From the Beatles to Bach to the Beastie Boys.

About Adrienne
One of my favorite quotes from my favorite movie, Almost Famous:
"So Russell, what do you love about music?"
"To begin with...everything."

My musical background is probably like many other teachers - Masters of Music, 10+ years teaching experience, etc. Here are some characteristics that I think set me apart:

Broad Music Style and Interest - On any given day, I can listen to, perform, practice, or play everything from the Beatles to Bach to the Beastie Boys

Extensive Training - I studied with the Principal Harpist of the Philadelphia Orchestra and have performed with the prestigious Curtis Symphony Orchestra

Focused but Fun - I keep students on task but have a light hearted, humorous approach to teaching.

Adaptible - I've been teaching for over 10 years and believe I have a fresh approach to an outdated teaching method.
I recognize that not all teaching approaches work the same on every student and am able to shift accordingly.

Communicative - I'm available anytime if you have any questions during your practice during the week. I accept text messages and videos. I support you at all times!

Adrienne is amazing. She clearly loves the harp and teaching it. She is very patient, even with an exuberant child. I also like that she uses technology to assist in learning. For instance, she had me download an app for my daughter to use to learn her notes. Obviously, a game makes it way easier to learn over other memorization techniques. Other times she has me video her practicing so we can make sure her technique is right.

I cannot recommend her enough!

Adrienne made learning piano both exciting and fun, but also still challenging enough. She is very friendly and made me feel comfortable right away, as I was nervous being new to playing piano. She'll help you correct your mistakes and push yourself to do better. She helped me to learn to read sheet music and the basics of piano very quickly, and from then on she helped me to improve. I highly recommend Adrienne as an instructor, especially if you are new to the instrument.

Music reading, sight reading, harmony and transposition, improvisation

About Carolyn
I am an experienced voice and piano teacher with 25 + years of teaching experience.

I am passionate about teaching, and my experience includes teaching voice and piano to elementary through college students, in academic settings and in my home. I love working with people of all ages.

As a soprano, I have performed as soloist in recitals and concerts throughout the US, and have sung professionally with many choral ensembles. I have appeared in musical theater and opera productions in leading roles. I have also been a college choir director and voice teacher.

In addition, I have performed as piano soloist in various settings, and piano accompanist for choirs, singers and instrumentalists in church, contest and concerts.

Recently, I earned my Doctorate in Music from Arizona State University.

My studio is where I share m
y expertise and passion for music with private voice and piano students. My approach is that music should be fun and satisfying. I want students to have the enjoyment of accomplishing great things, and build on their natural abilities and love of music. I look forward to meeting you, and seeing where your musical talents can take you!

*** Lesson Details ***
Each voice lesson begins with a warm up: movement:, stretches, breathing, and relaxation while focusing on good posture. Following that we continue warming up the voice with appropriate vocal exercises. If desired, we can spend time sight singing (reading music). Then we will turn to your chosen piece(s) of music. You could bring in a song or aria of your interest, or I could suggest pieces that I feel suit your voice. Some areas that I like to focus on in are relaxation, posture, breathing, support, use of registers, placement, growing your voice in size and range, intonation (pitch), tone color, clarity and consistency. My ultimate goal is to help students sing with musicality and expressiveness.

For piano, we may begin by working on things like hand position, posture, relaxation of the body and then exercises, including scales and chords. We may also incorporate music theory.
After a warm-up, we will focus on chosen music. I like to use music literature that is appropriate to the student's level, which gives enjoyment, and also increases breadth of knowledge and expertise. For beginning students, there are many good series available that I like to use, such as Bastian or Alfred.

Its very important that students feel comfortable in their lessons. I am sensitive, flexible and open to individual likes and dislikes, and any thoughts or concerns you have. These are your lessons and I am committed to helping you get the most out of them!

First of all Carolyn is the sweetest person ever. On top of that, she will work on proper technique at every lesson. She has noticed and worked on singing techniques that my past teachers have never addressed to me before. She will also take the time for you to understand the reasoning behind the technique. She also is great at picking out songs that fit your vocal range! One of the best teachers for sure!

About Karen A
Give the Gift of Music! "Music brings joy to the heart, peace to the soul & life to everything." "We teach children music, not so they can make beautiful music, but because music makes beautiful children." Two of my favorite quotes. I've taught for many years and I love what I do. Watching a student learn and grow is more rewarding than anything else.

Furthermore, Music is beneficial! No one thing is better than music for child's development and or for stimulating your own brain. Studies show that it can even help stave off dementia and other results of aging. Why? Music is the only activity that we do that uses All areas of the brain at once. Music increases IQ (in children), improves intuitive math and reading skills, raises test scores and the ability to focus and more. Furthermore, Students who study music are also more likely to
graduate, go to College and to be accepted at demanding schools like law and medicine. Music is a great way to maintain your mental skills and flexibility, explore different times, cultures and styles.

I AM A:
- An experienced teacher (since 1983) with typically up to 55 private lessons weekly.

WHAT IS A TYPICAL LESSON LIKE?
- Arrive and get your things out
- Warm-ups: trills, scales, 5 finger patterns, thirds, octaves, etc.
- Did you have trouble on your assignments this week? If so, we'll go directly to that.
- Demonstration of all pieces while working on any problems
- Assignment and demonstration, practice and special directions for each piece.
- Theory check and new assignment. Complete as needed.
- As time permits, review of flashcards, ear training and so forth.
- Music Lab (either before or after the lesson as fits in with the students around you) - 15-20 minutes of independent study: musical computer games to support what we are working on, read books about music, composers, music history and so forth, listen to music as supports what we are working on, complete any missed theory assignments, review of flashcards if needed.

WHO AM I?
I am Karen. I love Music! My family has always incorporated music into our lives. Some of my earliest memories are being danced around in my Mom’s arms and listening to her sing. I began formal lessons on the Piano when I was 7 years old. Growing up also I sang in the Church Choirs, played on Hand Bells, and explored the Flute. I spent a formal year each on Trumpet, Drums and Harpsichord and am currently working on learning Zither, Autoharp, Dulcimer, and Soprano & Alto Recorders, and sometimes the guitar (when I have a chance). Of course, I also regularly read and attend lectures, conferences, seminars and master classes to always improve my teaching skills. I have been teaching piano and music theory for over 31 years in this area and have played professionally. I am a member in good standing with the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), and was with the California Association of Music Teachers (CAPMT), Empire Music Teachers Association (EMTA), the Music Educators National Conference (MENC), the Suzuki Association of North America, the National & the Inland Empire Kodaly-Orff Association, and the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy – I have not hooked up here yet. I am a fully certified and licensed teacher of Kindermusik and Musikgarten and have earned National Certification (NCTM) through the MTNA and have earned Level I & II (out of 3) in Orff-Scheulwerk. I was District IV Coordinator for CAPMT, and Vice President then President of the EMTA. I keep busy and love teaching!

WHAT DO WE DO HERE?
I try hard to present students with a solid, broad based approach with an emphasis on understanding the fundamentals of musical comprehension, music reading, musical memory, and ear development. These are essential to playing and enjoyment of any instrument! To this end we cover theory, music history, performance, technique and practical application. These basics are supplemented and reinforced by the monthly group sessions, several annual field trips, access to regional, state and national music competitions and performances, as well as the formal Student Evaluations each Spring. I have a full music lab, an extensive library of music and music reference materials and up to date postings on local free or low cost musical events While I tend to emphasize classical music and technique, we will also cover a wide range of music in various meters and modalities: classical, popular and world music in solos and duets. Supplementary books are available: holiday, religious, popular, classical, music from specific times, places, composers, movies... or whatever the student wishes, when they are ready. My personal goal is not to have a studio full of competition performers. A few are always nice of course, but the average student just wants to be able to make music - to make it sing. I DO want them to understand, appreciate, and be able to pick up something and figure it out - or apply what they know to another instrument. Once music is part of a life, it never leaves; it is the one universal language.

Warmly,

Karen is very professional and willing to do what it takes to see to the success of her students. Many instructors are not understanding when things come up and you must change a lesson day or time. Karen is very understanding and will work to help you. My daughter has had 3 instructors and Karen is the best. My child has greatly advanced and others notice it. Where ever we go she is asked to show her talent. I would highly recommend Karen as your instructor. She also offers the best price. She is well worth the investment.

I have been seeing Karen for a couple of years and have to say that of all the instructors I have had, she is the best and most professional. She always has a smile and has always been very flexible with me. She had not minded changing times when issues come up. The recitals are great and she gives students extra assistance with group lessons. When there are events in the community that can help with music skills, she always lets me know. I would highly recommend Karen as your family instructor. The price is reasonable as well.

I am excited to offer piano lessons now! Beginner lessons (all ages welcome) will focus on music theory coupled with playing the instrument. It won't just be about pounding out the notes but learning all the different ways to understand the language that is music so that as the student gains proficiency they will be able to enjoy the experience rather than hating the drudgery of note-note-note practicing. I've taught out of the Alfred series - including the Adult All-In-One course, and the Faber series and am comfortable with either.

About Frances
Hullo! I'm Frances and I've been teaching private voice lessons since 2008. In the past my students have been cast in roles in high school and community theater, they have participated in Regional Choir, and auditioned successfully for collegiate music programs.

I received my training at Belmont University, graduating in 2008 with a degree in Classical Vocal Performance. After teaching privately and auditioning for a few years I realized I wanted to return to school so I could be better equipped to teach. I spent two years at ASU refining my own voice while experiencing new teaching techniques. I finished my advanced degree in May, 2016 and now have a Master of Music: Vocal Performance and Pedagogy.

I believe in a relaxed atmosphere for lessons and that if you're not having fun overall then something needs to change. Strengthening
the voice through proper, healthy technique will be challenging but should also be enjoyable.

I am also now offering private piano lessons which I've taught off and on since 2004. My own lessons spanned the four years between eight and twelve and then a year at Belmont University, where I passed piano proficiency as an entering freshman and was able to take privately with a professor trained at Julliard. My theory work from both my undergrad and graduate schooling will allow me to more adequately teach that side of piano performance and I am excited to add piano lessons to what I offer.

Frances trained me for 5 years in both Broadway voice and Classical voice. She adapted her teaching to work with my strengths and weaknesses and knew exactly what I needed whether I was singing a piece for church or a production that I was in. In addition to adapting her teaching style she also always knew which songs were appropriate for my voice style and which songs I should learn in order to push myself and grow. Not only does she know her stuff but lessons are full of laughter and they are one of the most enjoyable parts of learning to sing.

I selected Elizabeth as my classical vocal teacher when I moved to North Scottsdale and have been very pleased with my experience thus far! My voice has improved in tonality, quality and all over sound. Currently, I am relearning music techniques and correcting bad singing habits. After we ran thru a variety of scales and arias in our first practice she suspected I was only utilizing half of my vocal range. I thought, "ya ya, okay". But, Aaah, she was right! I've always placed myself as Mezzo-Soprano/Contralto ( a 2nd Soprano-1st Alto) but after improving some techniques, at her recommendation, I am discovering a very high song bird-esque Soprano sound coming from me! I am beyond thrilled at my newly discovered voice set and am looking forward to unearthing more of it.

Ever wanted to learn the basics of playing or reading music? Piano is the best place to start!
I'm Dalton Fisher and I've been playing piano since I was seven years old. Whether piano is something you've always wanted to try or your child wants to do more than just plink on that old instrument sitting in your living room, I'd love to be the one to bring you the joy of music in your home.

About Dalton
I've been playing piano since I was seven years old and trumpet since I was eleven. I'm classically trained, but I also love to play jazz, improvise and write my own music. I'm currently studying to be a piano technician through the Piano Technician Academy. This includes learning how to tune and repair all kinds of pianos.

If you or your child have never even touched an instrument, I'm your man! Students of any age can expect to see week to week improvement. I will ensure you learn the skills you need to not only play a song, but to understand how to read music and chords and even improvise, if that interests you.

I'm great with kids and have a reasonably flexible schedule. And best of all, I COME TO YOU.

Music truly is one of the great joys of life. I'd love to give you or your child the ability to enjoy playing music as much a
s I do.

He was great. Have 3 kids of very different skill levels, and after the nightmare of a piano teacher we had before, I'm happy to get someone who knows what he's doing.
