Instruction on technique that will facilitate healthy, easy musicality. Also, a focus on learning theory, new repertoire, sight reading and having fun learning songs that will make piano fun throughout the week.

About Anna-Lisa
June Lessons available!! Only want a few lessons or to get a jump start on the next school year???? June is the perfect month with the option of performing at the end of the month even if you have only had a few lessons! The studio closes for the month of July and reopens in August.

I grew up with music surrounding me. Both my parents play many instruments and they have passed that love on to me and my brothers. I started singing as a toddler and piano and flute came soon after. I love to teach, am patient and help my students to achieve their best. I create an environment for my students to feel safe expressing themselves, making mistakes, laughing and honing their musical language.

In my voice lessons I teach solid technique focusing on bringing out the beauty of each individual's voice giving them the tools to be able to sing musi
cally. I've been told by students that they have learned more from me in 2 lessons then they have working with prior teachers for years.

I earned my BM in Vocal Performance from the distinguished Eastman School of Music. I have earned the Bravo!Scholar and Howard Hanson award as well as first place in the Schubert Club vocal competition. I continue my studies with acclaimed Mezzo-soprano Gail Dubinbaum in Phoenix and I am a member of National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS).

I've sung all over the united states as well as in Germany and Italy. I performed the role of Frasquita in Phoenix Opera's production of Carmen as well as La Fata Azzurra in "La Bella Dormente nel Bosco" and as Sister Constance in "Dialogues des Carmelites" of which I was acclaimed by reviewers to have "revealed a luminous voice, and sang with ease and spontaneity." I have been a soloist with the St Paul Chamber Orchestra as well as with the Eastman Collegium. This past December I was a featured soloist with the Phoenix Symphony and returned to the Phoenix Opera to perform The Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute as well as worked with the Ohio Light Opera performing the lead roles of Hannah Glawari in "The Merry Widow" and Madame Pompadour in "Madame Pompadour."

I'm equally comfortable with musical theater and have played leading roles in many productions including Marian in "The Music Man," Laurie in Oklahoma, Margy in "State Fair," Rapunzel in "Into the Woods," and Mrs. Gardiner in the premier production of "Pride and Prejudice."

My students have advanced in the Classical Singer National Competition, Arizona Fiesta Chorus Competition, Hot Pipes Competition, and have been accepted to and attended summer programs at distinguished music schools including Westminster College and Eastman School of Music. They also perform with local theaters including Copperstar Theater, Moezart Productions, EVCT and more.

*** Lesson Details ***
Every vocal student will have different talents and struggles and will be at different levels so, I structure my lessons for the individual. However, with every student I focus on teaching correct breathing and healthy vocal use to enhance the natural beauty of the voice.

Overall I have a laid back, humorous personality. I work to help the student achieve their goals whether its to be able to sing better in the shower or to become a professional musician. I offer 2 recitals per year to perform at and often form duets/trio's out of my students. I also offer studio classes for my singers who desire to have more performing experience with immediate encouraging feedback and for my more advanced singers I offer Master classes with guest artists to perform at and attend.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music room w/ piano, books, mirror, and seating for parents. Parents can observe if the student is comfortable with that but, I do not allow parents to comment on the student's singing of performance during the lesson.

*** Travel Equipment ***
If they are a voice student they will need a piano, and they will need to purchase their own music and if possible purchase a recording device to record lessons and technique exercises. If they are a flute student, they will need to provide the music, and the instrument. If they are a piano student, obviously they would need a piano and would provide their own music based on my suggestion.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in Opera, Operetta, Broadway, and jazz. I also teach pop, rock and country. On the piano and flute I teach classical and contemporary. I do not teach jazz piano or flute.

I've been teaching piano for over 10 years and my students have gone on to play professionally, become teachers themselves, and develop a love of music. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to play fun simple songs at the piano. and as time goes on you'll be able to read musical notation, understand basic music theory, and play classical or contemporary pieces. I typically use Bastein, Alfred, or Faber method books depending on the students age and ability . I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!

About Erin
I am an enthusiastic, caring, and patient voice and piano instructor. I am passionate about both music and teaching.
I began playing piano when I was 9 years, and began classical vocal instruction at the age of 10. I have been teaching both voice and piano since 2004. I received my Bachelors of Music in Music Therapy in 2013. I believe passionately in the healing and restorative power of music. My teaching methods are based on traditional practices and pedagogy while also incorporating my student’s musical preferences, and personal goals. My main goal as a teacher is to help each student reach their highest musical potential while developing a life-long love for music.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a relaxed and patient teacher. I use positive reinforcement in order to help inspire and motivate my students. I do expect my student
s to play and/or sing outside of lessons, but I will never make my students feel anything but proud of their accomplishments as a musician.
My piano students will learn note reading, proper fingering, posture and technique, music theory, chord theory, ear training, and performance.
My voice students will learn proper posture, breathing, vocal technique and alignment. They will also learn how to sing in many different styles, or if they wish we can focus on specific genre of music.
Within 3-6 months my students will have a much greater understanding of music, and will have developed a passion for playing their instrument or singing.

*** Specialties ***
I use many different method books when teaching piano and am most comfortable with the Bastien series and Alfreds. When teaching voice I draw on many different methods and am comfortable teaching classical, pop, musical theater, and jazz.

I teach students of all levels. Whatever experience you have, we will work with. I believe that it is important to learn how to play by ear as well as read written music. Understanding both approaches, you will be able to play almost any kind of music in a solo as well as a group setting. Depending on your experience, I can find suitable projects that will help you to develop your skills.

About Zachary
I am a trained jazz pianist but I love many different styles of music. I grew up in the Portland, OR area, did my undergrad studies in Utah, and moved to Arizona to do my masters degree at ASU. I am now pursuing a PhD in musicology at ASU. I have played in many different types of bands as well as played solo piano professionally. Whatever type of music you enjoy, I hope to be able to help you learn to play it.

Zach is teaching our seven-year-old son, Ben, the piano. He's been working with Ben for seven months, now. Zach is kind and incredibly patient. He is encouraging by default. Ben looks forward to his lessons. Zach seems to match Ben's pace, pushing him forward when it's appropriate and reviewing material when it's clear that Ben is not ready. Zach began with familiar tunes, without sheet music, and Ben was proud of his early accomplishments at each step. Now that they're into reading music (using a Disney fake book), Ben feels comfortable and engaged. Zach is a graduate student, and he's on a student schedule (at least for now), which means scheduling lessons around the academic year--an approach that works well for us. It also means that we had the chance to see one of Zach's recitals at ASU, and that was inspirational for our own young pianist (and his dad). Ben and I recommend him highly.

I teach beginning students to read music and play by ear.

About Victor
I believe that any student will practice more if he or she likes the music they are playing. Periodically I will ask a student to give me a name of a piece of music that they would like to learn how to play. I notate it for them, often simplifying the rhythm and chords in Finale NotePad and give it to them free of charge. I teach students how to play music on their given instrument. Not just how to play the instrument but working on technique, finger dexterity, expert note reading ability and total musicianship. How to play a piece of music that will move the audience emotionally. I stress vocabulary and music history and theory as part of being a well-trained musician.

He is professional, prepared, courteous, and prompt. For the past 6 years, Mr.Quintana has been my cello instructor. Victor is a great instructor and a great person. He is wonderful with my young son, who was an absolute beginner when he started lesson with Victor at age 8. My son has a learning disability that makes it harder for him to read music and process instructions. Victor worked with all of that with patience and respect. Now my son can play beautiful songs and perform in front of others. I believe that learning music has also helped my son become better at reading, math, and thinking! Most of all, he feels successful about his guitar skills, which adds to his confidence. I cannot thank Victor enough!

About Karen A
Give the Gift of Music! "Music brings joy to the heart, peace to the soul & life to everything." "We teach children music, not so they can make beautiful music, but because music makes beautiful children." Two of my favorite quotes. I've taught for many years and I love what I do. Watching a student learn and grow is more rewarding than anything else.

Furthermore, Music is beneficial! No one thing is better than music for child's development and or for stimulating your own brain. Studies show that it can even help stave off dementia and other results of aging. Why? Music is the only activity that we do that uses All areas of the brain at once. Music increases IQ (in children), improves intuitive math and reading skills, raises test scores and the ability to focus and more. Furthermore, Students who study music are also more likely to
graduate, go to College and to be accepted at demanding schools like law and medicine. Music is a great way to maintain your mental skills and flexibility, explore different times, cultures and styles.

I AM A:
- An experienced teacher (since 1983) with typically up to 55 private lessons weekly.
- An experienced and successful teacher in working with a wide range of disabilities.
- Professional Pianist (since 1981).
- Nationally Certified Piano Teacher with MTNA.
- Certified teacher in all levels of Kindermusik (14 years).
- Certified teacher of Orff-Schuelwerk (2004).
- Experienced teacher in working with a wide variety of disabilities.
- Teacher (was) for the pioneering studies on music and brain development at UC Irvine.
- Founder of the Empire Music Teachers Association.
- Was District IV Coordinator for the California MTA (5 years).

WHAT IS A TYPICAL LESSON LIKE?
- Arrive and get your things out
- Warm-ups: trills, scales, 5 finger patterns, thirds, octaves, etc.
- Did you have trouble on your assignments this week? If so, we'll go directly to that.
- Demonstration of all pieces while working on any problems
- Assignment and demonstration, practice and special directions for each piece.
- Theory check and new assignment. Complete as needed.
- As time permits, review of flashcards, ear training and so forth.
- Music Lab (either before or after the lesson as fits in with the students around you) - 15-20 minutes of independent study: musical computer games to support what we are working on, read books about music, composers, music history and so forth, listen to music as supports what we are working on, complete any missed theory assignments, review of flashcards if needed.

WHO AM I?
I am Karen. I love Music! My family has always incorporated music into our lives. Some of my earliest memories are being danced around in my Mom’s arms and listening to her sing. I began formal lessons on the Piano when I was 7 years old. Growing up also I sang in the Church Choirs, played on Hand Bells, and explored the Flute. I spent a formal year each on Trumpet, Drums and Harpsichord and am currently working on learning Zither, Autoharp, Dulcimer, and Soprano & Alto Recorders, and sometimes the guitar (when I have a chance). Of course, I also regularly read and attend lectures, conferences, seminars and master classes to always improve my teaching skills. I have been teaching piano and music theory for over 31 years in this area and have played professionally. I am a member in good standing with the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), and was with the California Association of Music Teachers (CAPMT), Empire Music Teachers Association (EMTA), the Music Educators National Conference (MENC), the Suzuki Association of North America, the National & the Inland Empire Kodaly-Orff Association, and the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy – I have not hooked up here yet. I am a fully certified and licensed teacher of Kindermusik and Musikgarten and have earned National Certification (NCTM) through the MTNA and have earned Level I & II (out of 3) in Orff-Scheulwerk. I was District IV Coordinator for CAPMT, and Vice President then President of the EMTA. I keep busy and love teaching!

WHAT DO WE DO HERE?
I try hard to present students with a solid, broad based approach with an emphasis on understanding the fundamentals of musical comprehension, music reading, musical memory, and ear development. These are essential to playing and enjoyment of any instrument! To this end we cover theory, music history, performance, technique and practical application. These basics are supplemented and reinforced by the monthly group sessions, several annual field trips, access to regional, state and national music competitions and performances, as well as the formal Student Evaluations each Spring. I have a full music lab, an extensive library of music and music reference materials and up to date postings on local free or low cost musical events While I tend to emphasize classical music and technique, we will also cover a wide range of music in various meters and modalities: classical, popular and world music in solos and duets. Supplementary books are available: holiday, religious, popular, classical, music from specific times, places, composers, movies... or whatever the student wishes, when they are ready. My personal goal is not to have a studio full of competition performers. A few are always nice of course, but the average student just wants to be able to make music - to make it sing. I DO want them to understand, appreciate, and be able to pick up something and figure it out - or apply what they know to another instrument. Once music is part of a life, it never leaves; it is the one universal language.

Warmly,
Karen, NCTM

With a Doctorate in Musical Arts, I've been teaching music to all ages for 10 years. I enjoy helping students explore piano technique, expressive performance, reading music, improvisation, and music theory in a fun and creative format. From the first lesson, students begin reading musical notation and playing fun songs. As they gain mastery of each new concept, extra fun bonus songs are added to their repertoire from musicians such as Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Shawn Mendes, Rachel Platten, Christina Perri, Lauren Daigle, Francesca Battistelli, JJ Heller, and also fun excerpts from favorite movie soundtracks. My students have won competitions and attended Interlochen Arts Academy and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. Repertoire is selected according to students' stylistic preferences, whether pop, folk, classical, jazz, or sacred music. I believe learning music should be fun!
