Having enjoyed success as a lead in ASU's 2015 production of the Britten opera "Owen Wingrave" and as the title role in their 2016 production of "The Drowsy Chaperone" (for which I received an AriZoni Award of Excellence nomination) I have recent experience with auditioning and performing. I also have even more recent experience with failed auditioning so I'm there to train and coach and then celebrate OR commiserate. I'm quite ready and able to be there every step of the way.

Is your belt weak? Is your mix non-existent? Do you wonder why composers even write their songs spanning more than one register? Do composers hate singers?! What is it?! I understand these frustrations. Let's have a shared love/hate relationship with Musical Theater composers.

About Frances

Hullo! I'm Frances and I've been teaching private voice lessons since 2008. In the past my students have been cast in roles in high school and community theater, they have participated in Regional Choir, and auditioned successfully for collegiate music programs. I received my training at Belmon

Great first lesson. I was a bundle of nerves, Frances put me at ease. I look forward to our next lesson.
Jean Y.
Frances trained me for 5 years in both Broadway voice and Classical voice. She adapted her teaching to work with my strengths and weaknesses and knew exactly what I needed whether I was singing a piece for church or a production that I was in. In addition to adapting her teaching style she also always knew which songs were appropriate for my voice style and which songs I should learn in order to push myself and grow. Not only does she know her stuff but lessons are full of laughter and they are one of the most enjoyable parts of learning to sing.

I have a wide range of experience with performing many genres of music and always seek to bring out the best and most confident performance in all of my students. During my Masters at the IU Jacobs School of Music, I specialized in the performance of Baroque vocal repertoire and learned technical exercises that can help increase flexibility of technique in singing any genre of music. My diverse performance experiences across classical, opera, baroque, and musical theater enable me to encourage all students to reach their full potential with their singing voice and confidence that radiates into all areas of their lives.

Whether you're a beginner who has always wanted to sing or a professional with an active career, I can help develop your technique, improve the quality of your sound, and use your voice as a tool for self expression.

I have a unique background in that I am a professional performer myself, an educator with a Masters Degree in performance and pedagogy, and someone who has regular “behind the table” interaction with the Broadway community and colleges that offer Musical Theatre degrees. I have worked on the Voice Faculty at New York University, Cap 21/Molloy, the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, and Broadway Artists Alliance. I also trained as a Vocologist and Singing Voice Specialist with members of the NYU Langone Voice Center medical staff, and I am passionate about voice science and helping singers stay healthy for life!

I teach ages 10 and older, and I welcome all levels and styles of music. I also have experience working with singers who are vocally compromised ...

Ashleigh is an amazing coach. Ashleigh has been coaching my daughter for about five years via Facetime. The improvement in my daughter’s song interpretation and acting ability has been steady and incredible. Ashleigh knows how to prepare students for auditions. She has prepared my daughter for college auditions (from exploring and picking materials, to having all pieces ready). Most importantly, Ashleigh is always there for us answering questions and being supportive. We love her positive and happy disposition, which makes her easy to work with no matter how stressful the situation. We love Ashleigh!
Kelly
Ashleigh is such a wonderful person to work with! She is incredibly thorough and helped me find material that really resonates with me. Her warmth and sense of humor create a fun and welcoming lesson environment! She focuses on telling the story which is so important to me as an “actor who sings”. I couldn’t recommend her enough!
Aisha
I started taking lessons with Ashleigh after a 2 year period of not singing due to bowed vocal chords. In the short period I’ve worked with her I feel like I’m regaining the voice I was once had and then some. She’s extremely knowledgeable and patient. I’d recommend her to anyone.

Mikayla has been an amazing instructor in every sense of the word. Patient, encouraging, kind, flexible, and fun! Her incredible knowledge and background shine through in every lesson. I don’t know how but in every single lesson she teaches me something new! As an adult, starting lessons can be daunting and a little embarrassing but not with Mikayla. Every time I leave I’m so happy with my progress and excited about my growth. 5 stars for sure!!

I have been working with this instructor for about a year! She really takes the time to understand what I’m working on and how to approve! She does all types of singing! What makes me happy is that she anatomically knows what she’s talking about and really helps form my voice into what I want and need it to be!

"I met Laura at Harvard University when we were both doing our MFA degrees in acting. Since our program was not a Musical Theater one and I was not a singer, I started to take private lessons with her to compliment some of the training in singing we were getting there.

Laura is a fantastic singer and actor. She has an incredible ear as well as great knowledge and experience of what makes a singing performance pop. All this makes her an outstanding coach.

Even now after graduation, I am still training with her. Our focus now is on continuing the development of my singing voice. My goal is to reach a level where I have the skill and confidence to audition professionally for musicals, and I know I am in great hands."

"A Wonderful Teacher!

Jessie is an incredible person to work with. I went in looking to work on my range and songs for musical theatre and came out with a better understanding of technique and intonation. She is always patient and understanding of her students and is always willing to help them any way she can. She helped me pick songs for my auditions and also informed me about other auditions in the area. I also learned basic piano from her awesome piano worksheet tutorials! Jessie not only is a great instructor, but a great performer as well . Although her voice is beautiful, she doesn't make me feel inadequate or intimidated. Her lessons are always fun to me because of her sense of humour and kindness. Overall, I've had a great experience with Jessie and can't wait to see her again!"

She made recommendations, was wonderfully engaging, and her insight and ear highlighted some important tweaks that I would have overlooked in my haste to prepare. After just one session I felt clearer, calmer, and considerably more confident. Bonus: Chelsea is incredibly kind, fun to work with and makes you feel you already know one another.
