I am a string specialist. That means I teach and play violin, viola, cello, double bass, guitar, bass guitar, mandolin, ukulele and piano. I earned B.A. earned from the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley Colorado where I was a double major in classical guitar and double bass. In my senior year I was the recipient of the Annual Concerto Contest where I performed the "Concerto in A Major" on double bass with the University orchestra for the spring concert. I have played in both professional and semi-professional orchestras in Colorado and Arizona. I believe that any student will practice more if he or she likes the music they are playing. Periodically I will ask a student to give me a name of a piece of music that they would like to learn how to play. I notate it for them, often simplifying the rhythm and chords in Finale NotePad and give it to them free of charge. I teach students how to play music on their given instrument. He is professional, prepared, courteous, and prompt. For the past 6 years, Mr.Quintana has been my cello instructor. The environment that he creates as an educator provides an excellent foundation for continued learning. Mr. Quintana's knowledge of string instruments and piano are superb.

Victor is a great instructor and a great person. He is wonderful with my young son, who was an absolute beginner when he started lesson with Victor at age 8. My son has a learning disability that makes it harder for him to read music and process instructions. Victor worked with all of that with patience and respect. Now my son can play beautiful songs and perform in front of others. I believe that learning music has also helped my son become better at reading, math, and thinking! Most of all, he feels successful about his guitar skills, which adds to his confidence. I cannot thank Victor enough!

Violin was my first instrument, and it served as the foundation for everything else I did in music. Playing the violin teaches a high degree of musical sensitivity and I'm always excited to cultivate these qualities in any student that wants to learn. When I teach violin, I try to tailor to the needs of the student while teaching...

-Good intonation, which is one of the fundamental challenges of the instrument
-Playing by ear, an especially important skill for an instrument that can be used in almost every type of music on the planet
-Vocal phrasing, which is learning to use all the parts of the instrument to make it "sing."

About Jonathan
I studied music therapy and music theory at Temple University from '06-'10. Learned a lot. Then again, I learned even more teaching at a school for kids with learning disabilities and working as a traveling street performer. Once you see the world and work with some unexpected challenges, you learn how to open up and knuckle down at the same time!

I am currently a full-time YouTube Creator, sidelining in cover bands and a solo act. Teaching is a big part of what I do online so I see my work as a private teacher as 'research' for the lessons I create. Although I'm firmly grounded in a classical music training, there's nothing you can ask about that I won't try to figure out. My favorite thing about teaching is using unexpected questions to develop new ideas that I then integrate into my original compositions. Check out my intro to the B
lues Raga video if you want to hear a good story about what I mean.

Recently I've had several articles published by the TakeLessons Blog. Check out my most recent post here.

As an older beginning cello player, I found the perfect instructor in Dr. Kalantzi! She teaches with extreme patience and compassion. Her expertise and humor contribute to quality time of instruction in an enjoyable atmosphere. Dr. Kalantzi is flexible in acommendating all of her students schedules from making more time for them to prepare for auditions to accepting students into her schedule after time away. Introduction to Reading Violin Tabs
Tablature is a form of musical notation that was invented to make reading music easier for fretted and string instruments like guitar, bass, and violin. The premise is operationally-based, meaning that rather than showing rhythm, duration, and pitch, violin tabs will show the player where and when to place their fingers on the instrument. For an improvising musician, violin tabs allow you to improvise while staying within the chord structure of a song. Tablature-style notation is most commonly
