Having 10 years of experienced cello teaching, I feel very comfortable helping my students understand the foundations of cello technique. I graduated with a Bachelors of Music from the music conservatory Cleveland Institute of Music, and got my Masters in Music from Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music.

In addition, I completed a 2 year rigorous Suzuki Technique Pedagogy Program where I am now certified to teach all 10 levels of the cello books. I am confident in explaining any questions a student may have. I love to make practicing a game, so that way we are developing the proper skills but also challenging ourselves while having fun! Even I can understand that practicing can get tiresome and dull at times!

As a traveling musician who has performed all over the world, I feel it is important for students to appreciate all types of music. While classical training and technique are absolutely crucial to the beginning stages of a student's development, I like to show ...

Best instructor ever. Very patient. Knows how to handle an old guy like me. My playing doesn't really deserve someone as good, but I'm thankful to have her.

I have over 6 years of experience teaching private lessons in addition to teaching seminars on songwriting and music business at Infinity Visual and Performing Arts and SUNY JCC.

I teach both online and in-person lessons at my studio in Nashville and offer 30 and 60 minute lessons.

I have played over 1,000 shows, both solo and as an auxiliary musician for other touring acts. I performed on over 30 albums and have composed for radio, television, and internet video series, including sharing the stage with members of the 10,000 Maniacs. I've been featured in The New York Times, on the CBS Evening News, and on NPR.

While each student is different, I do generally start everyone on either Suzuki or the Essential Elements books.

As one of my old teachers said, “I'm not teaching you how to play cello, I'm teaching you how to teach yourself how to play cello.” This is something I strive for. Students will not only learn technical skills( how to play their instrument, read ...

"Lenna is a warm, competent and encouraging teacher whose patience and good humor have helped my daughter to develop a love of the cello. Talia practices for fun, and shares some of the conversations she has with Lenna with her friends because they mean a lot to her. For example, every week Talia seems to ask what the saddest note is, and she and Lenna play and discuss the emotional tenor of the cello. It means a great deal to Talia and she recounts thw discussions to her friends, for whom she now volunteers to play cello.

The nuts and bolts: Lenna is easy to reach, responsive and accommodating. She arrives on time and prepared. She is able to communicate effectively during lessons and gives good feedback and good homework. She is positive and encouraging, too."

"We feel it's our privilege to have Sophie for our kids' cello learning journey. She not only inspires the students, pay much attention on the position and minor stuff in the very beginning to remain a good habit, but also very well organized post-lesson follow up with detailed guide for the practice between the lessons.
Definitely highly recommend Sophie if you are about time looking for a new cello teacher."

"Johnny is an excellent, well-rounded teacher. The lesson I took with him was packed full of superb teaching points; such as bowing exercises to help with bowing complexities, helpful fingerings for awkward passages within a composition of music, and terrific rhythmical suggestions to help with complex rhythms in a passage of music. I highly recommend him for any cellist; whether they're first starting out or they are just looking for someone who needs an ear for an audition and needs some advice!"

"Jessica is wonderful! I began studying the cello as a quite older student - in my 50s - and have had a few teachers over these last 15 years. When teaching an adult student, the teacher has to understand that our lives, schedules and demands are quite different that those of a young person. Jessica's patience, persistence and genuine good humor in the face of my busy life is beyond admirable. Even though I am quite challenged in finding practice time, she "puts up" with me and my showing up to lessons with minimal preparation. I've accepted that I'm never going to be the great cellist of my dreams, but Jessica is facilitating my learning to enjoy playing this wonderful instrument that I've had a deep love affair with for many years. I can't thank her enough."

Popular Cello Songs for Adult Beginners

The cello is an absolutely beautiful instrument that calls countless numbers of people to play it. Adult students are sometimes the most challenging to find pieces for as they don’t want to play the “kiddie” songs that many younger students are excited about. These pieces for younger students are short, based on simple folk songs that children know, and generally do not feel challenging enough for many adult students. So what popular cello pieces are out there that adult students can u …

There are also internal posts and sound bars which allow the body to function as an acoustic amplifier across the cello’s wide range. Cello Thumb Position: Where to Place Your Fingers & Hands

Cello thumb position is one of the big leaps of technique for advancing cellists and is one of the skills that sets more advanced students from the intermediate.
