Through my work with the M Gray Music Academy (Macy Gray) and my tenure at the Hollywood School of Rock as teacher and Show Director, I have developed successful programs for students ranging in age from 5 years old and beyond. I have mentored numerous young musical groups in beneficial rehearsal techniques, live performance and basically all the things you need to know about being in a band that wants to be great!

As we explore the exciting world of music, guitars, drums and percussion, we will cover all aspects of music theory, music history and ear training through video, audio and text examples.

Students will be provided with all the necessary tools to fully understand musical concepts and have the ability to play for recreation or at a professional level.

You won't need any books to start but I do suggest a small 3 ring binder for notes, literature, weekly hand outs and homework .

For drum students: we will start by evaluating your current level of ability and ...

Very fun guy, with an extraordinary amount of knowledge, talent, and overall passion for music. I’m really looking forward to my future lessons.

I am really lucky to have found Al. I am just learning my instrument as an adult and have tried three different teachers (as well as self-managed lessons) before Al. Why I am enjoying my lessons with Al so much is because he brings energy to the session, he encourages questions, he's ready (even excited) to dig deeper into the why of what I'm learning. He challenges you to get the basics and get them right, but he's also willing to indulge in a student's curiosity and let me take the lesson where I want to do as well. All this means I am developing a lot faster than I did when I tried to learn on my own. I'd highly recommend giving Al a try.
David L.
My son enjoyed the first lesson! He is very excited about future lessons and can't wait to mature musically. Al is very easy to talk to and understands what motivates kids.

I have been teaching drums since 2003, and I start my students using The Drumset Musician, by Rick Mattingly and Rod Morgenstein. I also choose materials, from my extensive library, to address the needs of each individual. I am familiar with rock, country, blues, jazz, and world grooves, as well as marching band and orchestra. I teach the components of and purposes of voices within the set, proper grip, reading music, coordination, and feel. I also teach students how to analyze and map songs, so they can excel in a band setting. If a student is wanting to be in marching and symphonic bands, I can prepare them for those pursuits, as well. I have two sets in my studio, as well as abundant hand and auxiliary percussion instruments.

About Tracy

I have been playing the drum set in various bands since 2001. I have also been playing with the OKC Community Orchestra since 2009. I have played in symphonic and jazz bands and a percussion ensemble. I have taught a percussion class, private lessons, and I have been a full time music teacher in

"From the beginning I have felt that Alex is very invested in my success and like every great teacher, he challenges me. Alex's teaching style is a combination of teaching, observing and correcting technique, addressing mindset (really important), and wanting the student to feel the joy of discovering how to play real songs with every lesson. He is patient and encouraging, with just the right word at the right time. Combined with his vast knowledge of music, lessons and homework are packed with useful info that is broken down in a way that’s easy to understand. He also demonstrates how everything is applied through multiple musical styles,, so you can get a sense of the potential of your own playing in the future while broadening your musical horizons, which is a bonus.. You will get out of it only what you put into it, so regular practice is key otherwise it's easy to get behind. But Alex will adjust if something is not working, which is very motivating. Great teacher. Recommend 100%."

"Francisco is such a great teacher. He tailors his lessons to your needs and challenges you just enough. I took lessons with him for about 8 months, which ended when he moved to the west coast. Otherwise I would still be with him. But he taught me so much and still checks in to make sure I'm sticking with it months after our sessions have ended. He genuinely cares about his students and their love of music and he enjoys teaching and motivating others to play. I highly recommend Francisco as a teacher as he will get you where you want to be."

How Often Should You Tune Your Drums?

Keeping your drums in tune is essential for your sound. Here, Seattle, WA drum teacher Mason L. shares his advice for how often you should be tuning a drum set... One of the most defining characteristics of your sound as a drummer is the way your drums sound, so it's important to keep your drums in tune. Tuning a drum set takes some practice to master, but it is a great skill to have whether you’re just starting to drum or you’re touring and performing professionally. Depending on what …
