Senior Music Education Major with 2+ years of teaching experience and a member of the Cincinnati Metropolitan Orchestra. A violinist and vocalist with 11+ years of experience, and 2+ years of viola and piano experience. I believe that music is an experience that is felt and understood differently among each person and because of this, all lessons are customized according to the interests, needs, and goals of each student. My students will develop a solid foundation of music theory, aural skills, and sight-reading that will prove to be extremely beneficial in their musical studies. My greatest desire is to help all of my students to achieve their greatest musical potential and to grow in their appreciation of the beauty of music.

Margaret has been great! My 13 year old is enjoying lessons and is having fun learning a new style. Margaret gives clear directions, demonstrates how to play and explains everything really well. She recommends different bands to watch and listen to as well. She was understanding when I had to change the schedule for a couple lessons, which I really appreciated. We are so happy to have found such a wonderful online teacher.

I teach violin to students of all ages and levels! As a musician of 15 years, my background is in classical music, but I specialize in teaching a variety of genres, and I work individually with my students to determine how I can support them wherever they are in their musical journey! It is always my goal to create an exciting and encouraging learning space for my students.

I often start first-time students with Suzuki books, to emphasize ear training and musical fluency. The first lessons will focus on bow hold, positioning of the instrument, tuning, basic ear training, and learning your first pieces of violin repertoire! We will continue to build on these skills, and gradually begin learning note-reading, in addition to increasingly advanced repertoire.

Depending on the level of the student, I will also incorporate excerpts from scale and etude books to help re-enforce the concepts we are learning in our lessons. I have experience teaching from Wohlfahrt, Mazas, Kreutzer, Sevcik,

About Sydney

I am a Chicago-based performer and music teacher of seven years. I completed my Bachelor of Music in Viola Performance from Roosevelt University in 2018, and have taught violin and viola in group and private lessons to children and adults of all ages! My teaching is informed by Suzuki pedagogy.

My husband and I were extremely pleased with the progress our son Thomas made with Dan. Thomas started playing last year and was progressing faster than the rest of his third grade class which is why we were looking for a private teacher to help him along. Before taking lessons with Dan I had a hard time getting Thomas to practice. Thomas has begun practicing all on his own because he has been genuinely inspired. Dan is a true professional who always on time and in a good mood to teach. He was so patient with Thomas and developed practice techniques unique to Thomas's situation. Dan is more than just a violin teacher, he is dedicated to inspiring each student to love music. Thanks Dan!!!

"Our family loves Matthew. He's brought music back into our home and even my 3-year-old enjoys being a part of my lessons. I've had my great-grandfather's violin since I was 10, but it wasn't until I started taking lessons with Matthew 3 years ago, that I really started to play and understand foundational scales, key signatures and positions. It's opened up a whole world for me, and now I love playing the violin. For the legacy, the beautiful music and the joy it brings into my life and our home."
