*** Lesson Details ***
All my lessons are centered on where the student is in his/hers musical development. I will in the first few lessons, assess the student's level and then proceed to recommend a course of study. I am process driven and always try to have my students understand my method so I do try to explain all my reasoning regarding the course of study I prescribe. Every student is different so I approach each individual with total respect for their unique ability and talent.

*** Studio Equipment ***
In addition to the standard music stands, metronome, tuners and music, I have digital recording equipment for student's audition recordings. I have helped college bound students get into serious music programs like Northwestern University, Arizona State University and the University of Arizona. For students ages 8 years to 9, I recommend the recorder as a introductory woodwind before Flute, Clarinet or Saxophone.

*** Specialties ***
I am a certified Orff Teacher so I use process centered approach even in private lessons.

I teach all ranges and ages of students, to develop technique, sound, proper hand position, articulation, and musicality. It is my goal to help every student to ultimately find their own voice with their instrument.

For my Middle School and High School students, I find preparing them to audition for Southern California Honors Band (and potentially All-State Band) to be very rewarding and a great goal. Even if they choose not to audition or don't get in, great strides are made in their playing.

About Benjamin
I am a saxophonist and clarinetist and have been teaching for over 12 years. I am currently the saxophone professor at California State University, Northridge, I also maintain a studio of private saxophone and clarinet students throughout Los Angeles County, and am the saxophone and clarinet instructor at HYPERIUMconservatory in Rolling Hills, Palos Verdes.

I specialize in everything from beginners in elementary or middle school through high school students, college audition preparation, and also teach undergraduate and graduate students.

I previously held teaching positions at the University of Southern California, Sinai Akiba Academy, and Young Musicians Foundation.

I am currently teaching lessons in the following areas/cities, so even if you are out of my 10 miles radius, feel free to message me!

Lessons combine work on sound production, technical work, along with fun music (such as movie music) as well as repertoire and exercises to develop students musical skills. As a teacher I have worked with both 6 year-old and adult beginners, college music majors and graduate students, always tailoring how I teach for each student.

It is my goal that each student is able to play at least one simple tune by the end of the first lesson. Often, they can do much more!

I teach based on what you want to learn on the saxophone. We can work on any style including but not limited to Classical, Jazz, Afro-Cuban/Latin Jazz and/or any other styles of interest. Regardless of what style or genre we study we will always study core techniques of the saxophone which will increase your skill such as tone production/warm-up principles, technique including finger dexterity, scales, music vocabulary, tongue/finger correlation and full range capabilities of the instrument.

About Josue
Hi, there! My name is Josue and I can't wait to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons since 2004 and have loved helping my students accomplish self-expression, accomplish performance goals, and breaking through previous limitations. I went to Indiana University Jacob's School of Music and earned a Master's degree in Music in 2012. I'm a people's person and a caring person and my teaching style is patient, selfless, and informative. I look forward to helping you reach your goals!

How will our lessons work? I customize them completely around what you want to get from them. Some students are focusing on the Classical genre meanwhile others want to learn how to improvise and play commercial music. Whatever artistic direction you want to focus on I can guide you.

Studying together you will benefit by developing a warm, deep and
robust sound through exercises such as long tones, tongueless starts, overtones and mouthpiece exercises. We will also focus on instrumental technique by utilizing technical material found in etudes, arpeggios, patterns, scales, solos and many other sources. Reading music is key to performing on the saxophone so we will address sight reading and answer any questions you may have toward rhythm, time signature, rests and note duration. Articulation and time-feel is of the utmost importance when expressing yourself through the saxophone and we will grow from listening to and analyzing the phrasing of world class musicians. You will familiarize yourself with time feel through utilizing the metronome while playing and learning how to internalize it.

Through fun work and self-discipline you will feel so proud of yourself that you have learned how to communicate and speak your emotions through your saxophone as if it were your own voice. I can't wait to help you feel that gratification of accomplishment, see you on the other side in the classroom!

I've been performing for 10 years and teaching for 6 years. I have experience in many genres, but I mostly have stuck to classical music. I can help with everything from beginning lessons to preparing for an audition and exploring careers in music. My lessons are individually crafted based on the interests and skill level of the student, but always with a focus on solid fundamentals of music and saxophone. Learning an instrument and discovering music are the most rewarding experiences you can have, and getting to know my students is important so that I can adjust my teaching style and they remain curious and motivated. Send me a message and lets talk saxophone!

About Eric
I'm a professional musician, educator, and arts administrator. I have Bachelor's degree in Music Performance and a Masters degree in Arts Administration, both from Florida State University.

As a musician, I play as a soloist and with chamber ensembles in the Bay Area. I've performed in concert halls and music festivals throughout the United States and Europe, and my recordings have been featured on NPR's Performance Today. As an educator and clinician, I've held residencies and given masterclasses Universities and music schools around the country including Northern Arizona University, SUNY Fredonia, Florida State University, Sacramento State University, Colorado State University, and others. I'm also a co-founder of the Mana Quartet Saxophone Institute ; a national saxophone workshop for musicians all over the country!

My personally dra

For over more than 20 years I have had many successful students, who have enjoyed playing and studying with me. Teaching is a life-giver for me--I enjoy introducing students to the joys of different musical ideas, concepts, and ways that they can advance on their instrument. Things that I have enjoyed learning and playing over the years, that I can pass on to them to explore and enjoy. I hold both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Music, and have taught as an adjunct on the college level, high school, and privately. On the college level, I have taught clarinet, saxophone, and flute at three colleges, a Woodwind Methods class for five years, developed jazz ensembles, and developed and procured music for woodwind trios and saxophone quartets.

I have played professionally in these settings; jazz, symphonic, pit orchestra, and general business entertainment freelance as a woodwinds specialist.
