Very fun guy, with an extraordinary amount of knowledge, talent, and overall passion for music. I’m really looking forward to my future lessons.
Steve M.
I am really lucky to have found Al. I am just learning my instrument as an adult and have tried three different teachers (as well as self-managed lessons) before Al. Why I am enjoying my lessons with Al so much is because he brings energy to the session, he encourages questions, he's ready (even excited) to dig deeper into the why of what I'm learning. He challenges you to get the basics and get them right, but he's also willing to indulge in a student's curiosity and let me take the lesson where I want to do as well. All this means I am developing a lot faster than I did when I tried to learn on my own. I'd highly recommend giving Al a try.

My son enjoyed the first lesson! He is very excited about future lessons and can't wait to mature musically. Al is very easy to talk to and understands what motivates kids.

The electric bass is the foundation of any band. But, it is in no way limited by this role. Just within the traditional role of a electric bass player, a world of nuance exists that adds character and interest to any group. Beyond that, innovative new approaches to playing have emerged and exciting new possibilities for the instrument have made becoming an electric bass player more enticing than ever. In lessons, I help the student to realize what it is to be a bass player, and how building on past masters and current innovators can be liberating and informing. I aim to help my students appreciate the joys of playing electric bass as well as ensure that they will be an asset to any group they decide to join.

About Eli

One of the great things about being a bassist is that you can play with a lot of different groups. From jazz combos and rock bands, to bluegrass bands and string quintets, the bass can be an integral part of each. For me, learning and playing many different types of music has added to the joy of be

Zack Botkin
If you are looking for an excellent bass teacher, look no further. You would be wasting your time. I've had a number of music instructors over the years, and I can easily say that Eli ranks at or near the top of that list.

Eli knew exactly where to start with me... he truly has an amazing ability to gauge where the student's level of knowledge is, and tailor the lesson exactly to that. Within a few lessons, I had improved my form tremendously. We covered everything that I wanted to learn, and wasted no time on things that I already knew.

What's more, a few of the instructors I have had in the past came off as a bit elitist and snobby. Eli is one of the most genuine guys around. He'll guide the lesson at your own pace, always willing to pause and show you something a second, third, or fourth time... At no point do you ever feel like you are going to ask a dumb question. This is a crucial trait of a good instructor, and Eli definitely has that going for him.

He is also quite accommodating. We typically do Skype lessons, but one there was one time that his room mate had made a slight miscalculation in the internet bill, which resulted in no internet that day. Rather than let that stop him, he actually brought his bass and amplifier on the bus, and came to my apartment to give me the lesson in person. He will make sure you get your lesson, one way or another.

My only regret is that I don't have a 6th star to give the guy! I definitely recommend him to anyone looking to learn how to play the bass guitar.

"This is the guy you are looking for.

At 42 I finally got around to buying my first guitar (no musical background other than fan) and set about teaching myself with books and videos. 10 months later I realized that in spite of working at it every day I was going to get to the 1-year mark and not be able to play a single song all the way through (of the 70's and 80's hard rock that I love, I could play "Twinkle-Twinkle Little Star" pretty well). I was rapidly becoming "that guy" who can play sloppy intros to 300 songs, but nothing else.

I looked around the web, and settled on Ahmad because of his credentials and reviews, and I could not be happier with my choice.

The thing that makes Ahmad special is that he put as much effort into becoming a great guitar teacher as he did in becoming a great guitar player. Every lesson is tailored exactly to my ability at that time. If ever I have had particular trouble with something Ahmad is ready with additional material, alternate ways to learn it, different ways to explain it. No matter what the technique or concept, Ahmad has seen this mistake before and knows just what to do. Some days I leave with many pages of material to master, and some days just one or two. It is all about how slowly or quickly I am picking up the new thing, and all about learning things the right way so that the foundation is solid when I am ready to advance to the next level. There is no schedule or competition (except with myself) and the only objective is to learn more and get better.

To show examples in action Ahmad routinely finds 70s and 80s hard rock for me (not every single note is from Guns-n-Roses of course, but if a particular concept relates to something in a familiar song from the genre, that's the one Ahmad will pick for me to master). You do not have to learn jazz! (I mean if jazz is your thing I am certain that Ahmad can teach you that.)

I really doubt that there is a player at any level (or in any style) who would not learn a lot from Ahmad (that is if you are prepared to be humble and possibly review some foundational material you think you know already... if you knew it, Ahmad would not be teaching it to you... he can hear that your timing is off, or if you didn't hit all of the strings in that chord, and so can your audience). (Once, while I was performing an exercise from the previous lesson, Ahmad had his back to me digging in his filing cabinet for my next materials and said "Did you play the fifth note with an upstroke?"... He heard that, it was supposed to be a down stroke and he heard a difference so slight I didn't even know I was doing it.)

If you are a beginner as I was, my advice is to commit to four lessons with Ahmad. By the end of that time you will hear that you are advancing, and more importantly you will understand where you were and where you are going. It might seem kind of basic at first (which is why I say to go with at least four) but it does not take very long to understand how much better you will be with strong fundamentals. If, instead, you learn to play badly, and you practice regularly, eventually your speed will improve... and then you will play badly fast which actually sounds worse than playing badly slow... all that work for less than nothing.

I have been taking lessons for about a year and half. I can play some Lead Guitar now. And I can play some real songs now. Even those 300 intros are getting tight, that is to say I now play them with the right timing, technique, phrasing and feel!

PS - If Ahmad says "it's time for the Harmony Classes", do it! Like most things Ahmad has taught me, I have resisted it in some way at first, and the harmony lessons are no different. Like everything Ahmad has taught me, the harmony classes have immediately made me better at playing guitar, and have provided a foundation that makes the next thing and the next thing and the next thing easier, faster, and better."

"Collin is an amazing teacher! I started taking lessons with him on the electric bass - I was a beginner on the instrument, but I had lots of previous musical knowledge. Collin was incredibly patient with me from the get go, and had a lot of insight as to what tunes would be good for me to start with and what exercises and scales would suit my specific level of learning. He was patient and kind with me, and went at exactly the pace that I needed him to. Whenever I was struggling with a scale or bass line, he would immediately notice, slow down, and show me note for note what I was supposed to play. Conversely, whenever I was learning quickly and with ease, he would react accordingly and speed up the information a bit or move on to more difficult tasks. Collin a very skilled musician himself which makes it all the more inspiring to take lessons from him. He makes every lesson fun and informative. After each lesson, I felt pumped to practice and play during the week between our lessons. Collin is an incredible guy and a wonderful instructor - highly recommended!!!"

"Wonderful, talented, supportive teacher! Choose him!

Jesse is, by far, the best music teacher I have ever had. He is able to effectively leverage my existing knowledge in order to quickly teach me new ideas and concepts of both creating and playing music. I wanted a flexible and talented teacher who could reinforce theory on bass guitar, piano and voice. Jesse has seamlessly done this, and more! Some teachers play or dictate a lesson. Jesse "watches & listens" attentively and finds ways for the student to "connect" to the lesson. I have been playing music for over 30 years. I highly recommend Jesse to anyone: from novice to advanced artist. Choose him!"
