I instruct in most styles with particular emphasis on Classical and Pop. I encourage both reading and ear training. I teach scales, chords, and songs.
I've been teaching piano for over 10 years and my students have gone on to play professionally, become teachers themselves, and develop a love of music. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to play fun simple songs at the piano. and as time goes on you'll be able to read musical notation, understand basic music theory, and play classical or contemporary pieces. I typically use Bastein, Alfred, or Faber method books depending on the students age and ability . I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!
I can teach beginning piano lessons starting as early as age 4 (if the child has shown an interest in music) as well as lessons for an advanced level student. I have 2 different toy pianos available that are great for young children. I use the 'Music for Little Mozarts' series for kids age 4-6. I use method/lesson books as needed with all of my students. We work on music that you want to play and learn! We will work on finger control, scales, arpeggios, technique, and general musicianship. I use flash cards to help you learn to read music faster. For the advanced students, I can help you with your musicality and advanced levels of technique. I can give tips for adding embellishments, improvising, and memorizing music.
I have been teaching young children for many years and will take beginning piano students as young as 5 years old. While I was a public school music teacher, I used Orff-Shulwerk strategies for teaching music. This approach to music teaching and learning is appropriate for pre-school through middle school grades and also has applications for high school and adult education. These strategies are based on the way children learn: sing, chant, clap, dance and keep a beat on anything near at hand.
