Hello future student!
My name is Heather R., I'm a voice, guitar, songwriting and audio technology teacher, experienced in teaching students of all ages, backgrounds and levels of learning. I specialize in blues, rock, jazz and folk.
I am a professional musician in the Austin area, while working on my Master's Degree in Acoustics at UT.
In the past I've won awards for my songwriting including first place in the blues category of the 2009 West Coast Songwriter's Competition and Honorable Mention in the Berklee College of Music Songs for the Social Change Contest, also in 2009. I gra
duated from the Berklee College of Music in 2010 with a Bachelor's Degree in Professional Music. Ever since I've been working as a music teacher, performer, audio engineer and songwriter.
I know a lot about the music business and the music world. I want to help you obtain your musical goals and find the pro musician within! Mostly I want to help you build your self-confidence and develop your musical craft!
I truly believe anyone can obtain their musical dreams, it just takes hard work, dedication and the right guidance.
*** Lesson Details *** I set up a list of goals that a student wants to achieve over the course of several weeks. I make sure these goals are challenging for the student, while being realistically obtainable. These goals can vary from learning the chords to a particular song, learning the solo of a song, getting ready for an upcoming audition, mastering a scale or mode, anything!
I like to break things down into digestible chunks for the student. I never want a student to feel overwhelmed or discouraged.
While working on these goals I simultaneously slip in technique and music theory. I don't like to beat a student over the head with theory, but I do think it's important to learn and be exposed to it while you're working on your goals. Theory can be a very powerful tool for a musician. Whether it's as elementary as knowing what a twelve bar blues is or as advanced as tonal counterpoint, knowledge is power!
I’m going to push you in a positive way to work hard everyday to achieve your goals. I want you to feel the satisfaction of working hard, making progress, achieving your goals and being proud of yourself for what you've accomplished!
I won’t tolerate laziness. I will always be honest with you as to where you are with your progress. Unfortunately there are no shortcuts in learning. You've got to put the work in. It will pay off, I promise!
*** Studio Equipment *** Online Lessons Only
In my studio: -Piano -Guitar -Recording Software
*** Travel Equipment *** I email all materials either in PDF of Mp3 format. I expect all students to be responsible for their lesson materials.
*** Specialties *** I specialize in blues, jazz, Latin, musical theater, pop and rock n' roll. I have a huge background in classic rock and have been the leader singer in several rock and pop rock bands over the years. I also frequently perform solo acoustic blues and studied jazz at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Unfortunately I don't teach classical, metal, or hip hop. Any other genre I'm good to go!
I am also an expert in music theory and am a working audio engineer. When I teach I like to explain the methodology behind a subject, so a student can understand it completely and not just have a general sense of it. Things click in a student's mind when they understand where something came from and why it is the way it is. Whether I'm teaching voice, guitar, piano, bass, songwriting, engineering, performing, or theory, this method of teaching has always worked very well for me.

Thanks Heather for the notes and lesson pattern.I will practice a lot as u said.

Heather was really good with me. She took out enough time to explain the things people normally don't, or don't even know about, and she actually told me a lot I hadn't known before. She also explained it in a way that I understood easily, and we practiced it. So, I'm definitely going to use what she'd told me, and hopefully I get to work with her again. She's excellent!
I have been recording music for over 17 years. My productions have been played on over 200 radio and television stations all over the world. I am a voting member of the Recording Academy (The Grammys) and a member of ASCAP.
Gfire has been teaching and performing music full-time for over 17 years. Based in Austin, Texas, the "Live Music Capital of the World," she offers voice, piano, songwriting, yoga, folk guitar, and DJ'ing lessons to students from 5-105 and she specializes in sculpting her lessons to the strengths and desires of each individual student. Her students range from beginning to advanced levels, and they sing and play a multitude of musical styles, including classical, pop, rock, r 'n' b, country, folk, singer-songwriter, musical theater, blues and more.
Gfire loves to share her talents wi
th her students. She prides herself on instilling a "sense of mastery" to each of her singing and piano students, no matter on which level they are. The students come away with a real sense of knowing their songs and their instruments inside out and with a real sense of confidence in their musicianship. Plus they have a lot of fun as they make musical progress!
Gfire is also an award-winning singer-songwriter and "Yoga for the Voice" innovator. She has released 4 CDs of all-original music and is currently working on her 5th CD, to be released in 2015.
As a teacher, Gfire works with students of all levels and all areas of interest. In October 2007, Gfire became the only vocal teacher in the Western Hemisphere to gain full certification in the Science of Singing, developed by Ernest G. White of London, England. Her unique voice training program, entitled "Yoga for the Voice," combines this knowledge of the Science of Singing with ancient yoga breathing techniques. This technique allows each voice student to develop a "vocal tune-up" for the voice AND to discover what the natural singing range is and how to use the voice as effectively as possible. With the internet SKYPE technology, Gfire teaches voice students all over the world, from Switzerland to the U.K. to New Zealand to New York.
Her vocal students have sung in touring rock bands, on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry, in successful auditions, in karaoke clubs, in coffee houses and folk clubs, at weddings and for their own enjoyment amongst family and friends. Whatever level of singing training you wish to acquire, she will show you the way to achieve it!
Gfire was also the main voice instructor and one of 3 main piano teachers at the Austin branch of Mars Music (now defunct) for 3 1/2 years. In addition to her vocal study and innovation, she has studied piano with top classical and jazz pianists, studied songwriting with Pat Pattison of Berklee College in Boston, gotten her full yoga teaching certification in 2004 and DJ'd at clubs and parties worldwide. For eight years straight - 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 - she has won the prestigious ASCAPlus Award for professional songwriting.
As a singer-songwriter, Gfire continues to write, record and perform with some of the best musicians and engineers in the world, including engineer Stuart Sullivan (Willie Nelson, Sublime, Meat Puppets, etc.), Hammond organ player Ian McLagen (Rolling Stones, Rod Stewart), cellist John Hagen (Lyle Lovett), fiddle/mandolin player Warren Hood (The Waybacks), bassist George Reiff (Ray Wylie Hubbard) and banjo picker Danny Barnes (Bad Livers, Dave Matthews).
Gfire's original songs have been played on over 200 radio and television stations worldwide. She has toured in over half of the fifty states, plus the U.K. and Canada.
*** Lesson Details *** NEW - Gfire is now available to teach WORLDWIDE via SKYPE or FaceTime - so you can have a music lesson in the privacy of your own home!!
Voice lessons - I have created a unique and wonderful vocal method, "Yoga for the Voice," which combines ancient yoga breathing exercises with special vocal exercises to give you a "complete vocal tune-up." These techniques are simple, effective and easily-learned by any student of the voice, from about age 5-105. I love to help you learn to apply these wonderful techniques to learning the songs you wish to learn - whether they are pop, r 'n' b, folk, singer-songwriter, rock, country, opera, musical theater, jazz, etc. "Yoga for the Voice" is just as effective for professional speakers, such as teachers, lawyers, clergymen or actors - we just use a range of notes that is smaller than a singer's range, and we focus on using your speaking voice as effectively and efficiently as possible.
In 3-6 months, you will be able to:
1. master the "breath of fire" and "one-minute breath" - the BEST yoga breaths for singers! 2. master the "sinus humming exercises" - identifying where EACH note in your range originates in your own head 3. master the "full-body exercises" - traditional singing exercises on "mah, mee, moh, moo, meh" - so that you can move easily between your chest voice, middle voice, and head voice 4. master 2-10 songs or more, depending on your level and the level of difficulty of each song - being able to sing each song in TUNE, with feeling, and having a blast doing it!! 5. if you wish, you can perform your song(s) at one of my voice and piano recitals - on a REAL Austin stage!!
Piano lessons - I teach a wide range of piano styles at levels from beginner to early advanced, beginning around age 5. Whether you want to learn classical, rock, blues, country, boogie-woogie, or other styles of piano and keyboard playing, I will sculpt your lesson plan so that you have a great foundation in technique AND you learn the styles and songs you wish to play.
In 3-6 months, you will be able to:
1. master the Leschetizky, hand massage, and isometric warm-up exercises - the BEST piano warm-ups! 2. depending on your level, master Hanon exercises 1-12, major and minor scales, major and minor arpeggios 3. for beginners, you will be able to play with BOTH hands on the treble and bass clefs - at the same time!! 4. master the I-IV-V progression in 3-12 keys, depending on your level - so that you can play blues, rock, country, boogie-woogie, and ragtime songs!! 5. master 4-20 songs or more, depending on your level and the level of difficulty of each song (classical songs tend to take more time to master) - being able to play each song with great technique, with feeling, and having a blast doing it!! 6. if you wish, you can perform your song(s) at one of my voice and piano recitals - on a REAL Austin stage!!
Songwriting lessons - I will teach you how to create a great song, in the style you wish to write in. Country songs, pop songs, rock tunes, r'n' b, folk, etc. - all of these genres have "unwritten rules" about how to put together an effective song. We will utilize special songwriting exercises and tools to help you learn to be a wonderful songwriter.
DJ lessons - I teach beat matching, turntable fine-tuning and repertoire selection to help you become the DJ you aspire to be. I own crates and crates of vinyl records and CDs, and I have DJ'd all over the world to enthusiastic crowds, so I can teach you to attain a real joy and skill in the art of turntablism.
Yoga lessons - I am a fully KRI-certified yoga teacher and I can help you develop a valuable yoga routine to help you achieve your health and relaxation goals. We will choose from literally hundreds of exercises and breathing techniques specifically geared to your needs and wants.

I really enjoyed her warmups. I definitely recommend her as a teacher!
The main focus will be recording samples and integrating those samples into a piece of music. Students will become familiar with various computer software, recording equipment, and recording techniques.
My name is Richard, and I am a musician/violinist/composer with a Master of Music in Composition/Theory from Penn State. I began violin lessons at age 5. Since then, I have been involved in bands, orchestras, and choirs throughout school. As a composer and recording artist, I am interested in electronic composition, interactive media, songwriting, film music, and video game music. I have experience writing music for and working with orchestra, choir, chamber ensembles, solo instruments, film, and video games. Along with my sister, Cecilia, we released our debut electronic/pop album, "Henri," u
nder the name, Umu. I have experience teaching violin, piano, music theory, songwriting, and audio production lessons.
I'm always open to the interests of the student and what he/she wants to learn. Being exposed to a variety of different styles of music throughout my life, I can share these experiences through teaching. Whether you are interested in instrumental performance or music composition, you can expect to have a fun time learning things you never knew about music.
*** Lesson Details *** For the most part, students can expect a fun and laid back teaching environment. I will encourage the student to create reasonable goals. If a student is interested in a particular style or genre, I will ensure that I provide them with the necessary technique and understanding to be able to succeed.
After 3 to 6 months of lessons for instrumental lessons, you can expect to know at least a handful of pieces you are interested in, the basics of your instrument, and some music theory fundamentals. Likewise, for songwriting and audio production, you can expect to have written, composed, and produced a couple of songs and projects.
*** Studio Equipment *** Music studio with keyboard, guitars, violin, music stand, computer, sheet music. Parents are welcome to sit in on lessons.
*** Specialties *** For teaching violin, I am familiar with the Suzuki method. I also encourage ear training and rote methods for all instruments. Improvisation, theory, and having fun making music are necessary to facilitate student growth.

I am 22 years old, and I have had zero exposure to anything to do with music, before starting my violin lessons with Richard. But that has never been an issue so far. It has been 10 classes since I started learning how to play the violin, and I am totally enjoying my classes with him. He’s very patient and tries alternative approaches if I’m finding the current technique hard. I find him very knowledgeable, and the classes, I feel, are a perfect blend of music theory and playing the violin. I’d anytime recommend him to anybody who wants to learn how to play this wonderful instrument!

I have been taking violin lessons from Richard for 5 weeks, and I plan to continue. I am very happy with everything. Here is my review so far:
Richard’s has an excellent understanding of several instruments and music theory. He is very good at explaining bizarre concepts. He will often explain something by showing me the mechanics on my instrument, then showing the same mechanic on a different instrument. I like this because it helps me think about things in terms of music theory instead of just on violin, and most of the time it makes it easier to understand.
His knowledge of the violin specifically is outstanding. I’m always amazed at how easily he can reproduce my error and show me exactly what I’m doing wrong despite being a trained violinist that hasn’t encountered the mistake in a long time.
Richard is a very cool guy. He is easy to talk to, and he has a good grasp of how to tell you what you are doing wrong without sounding harsh or commanding. He is great about letting me practice with music that I find outside of the beginner books, and has even helped me alter music that is out of my league to something that is reasonable for me to practice.
Richard’s studio is great! It is very cozy area sectioned off from the rest of the house. It helps me relax knowing that I’m not in an apartment with paper thin walls driving all of the neighbors crazy. He has a lot of different instruments in the studio, as well as a computer with all sorts of useful software.
Overall, Richard is a great teacher and I look forward to continuing lessons with him.

Richard is an excellent instructor. He teaches both of my kids, a boy and a girl. He is very patient and keeps them on task. He has them take their time to learn each song correctly. He emphasizes technique and learning to read music. He is also very encouraging.
I have experience playing in the studio. I also have home recording experience. I can offer drum tuning tips, playing guidance, how to record on your own, and getting familiar with Cubase (music recording software). I can also help with mic placement and EQ settings.
I was an engineering tutor at University of Texas at Austin from 2006-2009. I graduated from UT with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 2009. I am very familiar with the UT engineering courses (from the beginning to the end).
While I was at UT, I also studied jazz drumming with Brannen Temple. I have been playing professionally for over ten years with lots of different bands. Teaching and playing music are the most gratifying things for me. But I also like to teach math!
I have been teaching high school math, physics, and music theory at Premier High School of North Austin for five yea
rs (2009-2014). I am a certified teacher by the state of Texas.

My 9-year-old daughter is absolutely loving her lessons with Aaron. His enthusiasm for the instrument is contagious and his patient encouragement is just what she needs to stay motivated. Having been through two other disappointing drum teachers before this, we are thrilled to have found Aaron!
I have been producing and recording music since the 90's. I can tutor recording at any level in any style.
TEACHING MISSION: Capture the joy of playing music. Inspire continual playing and/or practice, regardless of student's lifestyle/career choices. I start the first lesson with a student wish list (songs, goals, etc) and every lesson we take significant steps towards the goals.

he has helped me to memorize portion of my favorite song while learning a certain strum with accent on 2nd beat and working on it. he has helped me to organize time to learn. shown me strum pattern and how many in between per note while following and artists song. he is helping me to be disciplined not to think about it and do it subconsciously which is wonderful to learn. i am learning a finger pattern. all will take time. when i stumble he picks the same note up with me as i start again and helps me grow thru my difficulties with explanation and repeating over and over with me until i get it. very patient and nice person with good teaching skills.
