Angela H. Hazelwood, MO

About Angela

Hi! My name is Angela, and I teach private piano, voice, and theory lessons. I love teaching, and have taught many ages (3 to 93) and ability levels (novice to advanced). I am a dependable, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic teacher. I offer lessons for 30, 45, or 60-minute weekly sessions in my home studio. I do not offer bi-weekly lessons or lessons in the student's home. My home is a split-level, with my private living area above and my music studio below. There is a waiting area just outside the music studio, as well as a half-bath specifically designated for students and parents. The studio itself contains a piano and organ, my personal music library, and additional seating for parents. There is a full-length mirror for vocal students to watch their performance skills grow, and a ...

Angela is GREAT!! She gave me lots of helpful exercises to do outside of the lessons. And she was very accommodating when I wanted to sing in a language other than English. I WILL return to lessons with her.

Angela moves at a pretty good clip, which is fine with me. I appreciate that she is tailoring the lessons to suit my abilities, rather than a one-size-fits all approach. I feel like I am a part of making choices, when appropriate. At the same time, Angela is confident in respectfully voicing a different opinion, and explaining it. I'm also taking piano lessons with her and appreciate her finding occasions to combine voice and piano opportunities.

James H. Wentzville, MO

About James

My name is James, and I love music. Music is my "aeroplane". It's the window to my world. Everything I do involves music: learning it, playing it, listening to it, creating it, studying it. I think it is safe to say that music is my life's passion. If you have a passion for music, or even just a curiosity, I'd love to be the one to help you explore the magical world of music! I've been playing for about 20 years now, and I've had almost every experience that one can have playing the piano: playing at a high competition level, public performances, both solo and ensemble, lots of private instruction. My personal training is in classical piano, however I believe that all genres possess the potential to be an instrument of learning and enjoyment, AT THE SAME TIME! And I'd love to show you ...

James has been a real inspiration to me in playing the piano. I had been playing the piano over 30 years when I started lessons with him. He has helped me to become more expressive, to create medleys and arrangements, and to modulate to other keys and key signatures. I have gained more of an appreciation for different musical styles and have progressed further than I ever imagined. I highly recommend him as a patient and knowledgeable teacher.

Best teacher ever!

James has been great with Jesse. Over the years, he has tailored the lessons to meet Jesse's needs and interests and always keeps it fun. We appreciate how he comes to our house at a time that we all agree on and we can count on him to be here. Thanks James!
David M. Saint Louis, MO

About David

Composer and guitarist David began formal music training at the age of 5 on the drums. He taught himself guitar as a teenager and began playing in local rock bands. Initially entering college as a Journalism major, his passion for music led him to Meramec College where he studied Music Theory with Robert C. Howard and classical guitar with Larry Bolles. From 1990 through 1993, he attended Webster University, and became only the second composer in the school's history to receive the BM/MM Scholarship. While at Webster, he studied composition with Dr. Kendall Stallings, Robert Chamberlin, and Kim Portnoy, Jazz History with Paul Demarinis, and 18th Century Counterpoint with Dr. Eloise Jarvis. During his education, he performed with many student ensembles and sat in on master classes by the ...

I've been learning songwriting and music theory from David and it couldn't be any better. He's very professional and personable, and he makes sure to work with you, not above you. He shows a genuine enthusiasm for his students' musical interests and formulates instruction around them. David encourages questions, which creates a comfortable and effective teacher-student interaction. Between my weekly lessons, I find myself impatiently counting down the days until my next scheduled lesson. While the genre of songwriting that I've been working on with David's guidance has been contemporary Christian, I'm sure that he would be an effective teacher in any genre, whether the student were writing songs or playing them.

After the initial panic of trying to learn something at such a ripe old age I was reassured by other reviews that David would be the best bet. They were correct and I recommend him to any age group. After a welcome at the front door assuring me that I was at the right location, he excels in making you feel comfortable. He listens to questions and told me no question was stupid. Takes everything at your speed and recaps from the week before. Is thorough and stops you when finger placement is not correct so you don't begin bad habits. Looks up and acquaints himself with the songs that you want to learn and will stop covering a certain area if you do not want to learn it. He sends you home with just the right amount of practice work and after 3 lessons I feel like I'm getting all of what he's teaching and am improving and adding on more lessons. So happy that I chose David.

My Outstanding Journey

I can't say enough about what I have learned over the past year. To be able to play the gift of music and understand the foundation of it's existence, is truly an edifying experience. My instructor has been absolutely fabulous. His patience, knowledge and his keen ability to translate his knowledge to the specific level of understanding of his students, is nothing short of great. Kudos to you all for having the resident talent to make my, and others, dreams of learning to play music a reality.

Best of wishes to all this upcoming New Year.
Lisa Y. Ballwin, MO

About Lisa

My love of singing began with my mother. She is an amazing singer but didn't really receive training, so she encouraged me to pursue singing. I was in choirs since 3rd grade and started voice lessons in 8th grade. My senior year in high school I was part of a choir that was invited to sing on NPR's From The Top! It was a thrilling experience. I received a bachelor of music degree in vocal performance from Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Georgia. I participated in choirs, musicals, and other performance venues, including two recitals. Since graduation I have moved to St. Louis to pursue singing and teaching. I am excited to share my love of singing with you! *** Lesson Details *** I want to facilitate your musical growth, working with you to reach your goal. Regardless of ...
