Ryan B.

Saint Louis, MO

About Ryan

Hello, my name is Ryan B. I appreciate the responsibility, dedication and hard work that comes along with being a music teacher. To me nothing is more rewarding than the students improvement and their personal feelings of success.

Since I have learned how to play a variety of instruments over the course of several years, I have learned how to gather and utilize skills and techniques that I have learned from many great musicians. That means I can take these diverse skills and pass them on to my students! And I am very good at finding just what the student needs to expand their musical horizo
ns.

Training:

-I have been playing a variety of musical instruments (examples are guitar, piano, trombone, saxophone, trumpet, flute, and many more) for seven years
-I am very familiar with the different styles of American music and its history. I have taken music theory courses 1-4.
-I have received two years of private piano lessons

Accomplishments and awards:

-I have performed with six different jazz combinations at St. Louis Community College over the course of two years.
-I have been giving private music lessons for three years.
-I have preformed with international touring artists.
-I received an award for outstanding achievement in jazz improvisation in the Spring of 2012 from St. Louis Community College

Recent achievements- My tenor saxophone student Jay Palamad just got 2nd place out of 40 other students in his all suburban audition!

My alto student Logan Page was just awarded 1st chair at his high school band audition

Schools:

-Graduate of Parkway South High School, year 2006
-I am pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Jazz Performance.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a very personable and relaxed teacher, I also have very high confidence in the potential of my students. I give individually tailored music lessons because everyone learns differently. I use beginner to intermediate Hal Leonard and Real Easy books for saxophone, flute, piano trumpet and trombone (occasionally I use hannon exercises for piano).

I have developed some of my own unique musical exercises as well. I believe that after a couple of weeks my students will find that they are having more success and fun with practicing, playing, and performing. I am great with kids and I also cater to special needs students.

I am always interested in my student's musical background and personal interests. The first lesson would consist of assessing the student's present skills/talents, their short term and long term goals as well as introducing technique exercises and determining a song, or songs, to master (apply things learned during lessons). I encourage and set goals for every lesson, so practicing on your own is very important!

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have an IPad with an I real book application. With this I can have an entire rhythm section to back myself and my students while we are practicing sight reading and Jazz improvisation. I also can provide a metronome, electric piano, music stands, instrument stands, and some sheet music.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to have his or her own instrument. I can provide a metronome, music stand, instrument stands, and some sheet music.

*** Specialties ***
I have experience teaching jazz, blues, rock, reggae, Afro beat and funk.

It's not easy to find a harmonica teacher. Ryan has been very reliable. He is flexible with his teaching style and my son really looks forward to his lessons. We bought 5 classes. We finished the last one yesterday. We are taking a break for the end of the school year but will keep Ryan in mind for future lessons.

James H.

Wentzville, MO

About James

My name is James, and I love music. Music is my "aeroplane". It's the window to my world. Everything I do involves music: learning it, playing it, listening to it, creating it, studying it. I think it is safe to say that music is my life's passion. If you have a passion for music, or even just a curiosity, I'd love to be the one to help you explore the magical world of music!

I've been playing for about 20 years now, and I've had almost every experience that one can have playing the piano: playing at a high competition level, public performances, both solo and ensemble, lots of private inst
ruction. My personal training is in classical piano, however I believe that all genres possess the potential to be an instrument of learning and enjoyment, AT THE SAME TIME! And I'd love to show you how!

Recently, I completed my sophomore leve classes at a local college studying music under a wonderful and passionate professor. This experience has only helped to solidify my love of musical arts. During my freshman year of studies, I was awarded Music Student of the Year (2008-2009) by the head of the music department on my campus. And I have completed my associate level music requirements at the end of spring term 2010. Ever since, I have been building my student base and honing my teaching skills.

*** Lesson Details ***
Come to lessons curious.
Come wanting to learn.
Come to lessons wanting to know more.
And you'll find what you're looking for!
You'll also find that I am a very easy going person. I understand that, sometimes, practice can be tedious. My goal is to make every aspect of your learning experience enjoyable, from discovering new music, to learning the music you already love, to cementing your skills in learning and self education. I hope you leave lessons loving music as much as I do.

*** Studio Equipment ***
A designated music room with an upright piano

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect students to provide piano/electric piano.

*** Specialties ***
*Teachers classified as a Student Favorite have taught a minimum of 25
lessons and have received the highest feedback rating from students. My own personal history includes mainly classical piano music and technique, but I also enjoy contemporary piano pieces.

James has been a real inspiration to me in playing the piano. I had been playing the piano over 30 years when I started lessons with him. He has helped me to become more expressive, to create medleys and arrangements, and to modulate to other keys and key signatures. I have gained more of an appreciation for different musical styles and have progressed further than I ever imagined. I highly recommend him as a patient and knowledgeable teacher.

As one of the top rated music instructors in the area, I help students to learn what they love, but learn to do it with the skill, speed, and FUN that comes along with taking lessons from an expert teacher!

"My children have been taking lessons from Eric for about 9 months now. He is a wonderful teacher with load of patience and a knack for making the lessons fun and enjoyable but also productive. He is honest with the students and tells them exactly wh
at they need to improve on but also praises their accomplishments, which is a great balance to find in a teacher."
-Michelle H.

"My 8 year old has only been taking lessons for about a month, but we are very happy with Mr. Eric. He's very knowledgeable, and he's great with kids. My daughter loves going to her lessons. Eric updates me on the progress made each week. He is easy to get a hold of and flexible with make-ups."
-Amanda B.

-Sarah C.

"Our son has been taking drum lessons from Eric for almost a year now at the recommendation of our neighbor (whose sons take piano and guitar). We could not be happier!!! School is somewhat of a struggle for our son, but music is something he enjoys and gives him confidence. Eric works wonderfully with Aaron. He is encouraging, positive, patient, professional and hugely talented. We would recommend Eric to ANYONE looking for a music instructor!"
-Pam N.

"My 16 year old daughter has been taking lessons with Eric for over a year. Not only has she learned how to play the acoustic guitar, but she has learned a TON about music and has developed a great relationship with Eric. He is patient, funny, personable, and kind. Even if my daughter "masters" the art of playing guitar, I'm sure she will continue to attend weekly lessons with Eric for the all around music knowledge and playing experience she gleans from her time with him. We <3 Eric!!!!!"
-Shannon G.

"My 6 year old son has been taking guitar lessons from Eric for almost two months now, and he loves it! I have known Vinnie for quite a few years now and have gotten to jam with him a couple times at the music shop he used to work at. Not only is he an incredible player, but an amazing teacher as well. If you are looking to learn theory, phrasing, or just fun riffs to jam to, this is the only teacher you will need.
