Alexandra R.

Fayetteville, GA

I teach Acting through method, Meisner, Stanislavski, and I help write and create a repertoire appropriate for the actor or find monologues and scripts easier for the actor to study.

About Alexandra

Ali has had music in her life since she was in the crib. She has performed professionally in the musical theatre world and she has studied in several universities for Musical Theater, Jazz, Pop, Blues, and R&B. Since the age of sixteen, she has been selected to sing as a guest soloist for venues such as Spivey Hall, Georgia World Congress Center, and Georgia Tech Hotel Conference Center. Ali has also sung for many movies and recordings, and recently recorded a demo for David Foster, Barbra Streisand, and Andrea Bocelli and recently toured as a pianist for "The Women of Ireland." She is a rece
nt graduate of Berklee College of Music and earned her BM in Music Business and Vocal Performance cum laude studying under Magi Scott, Jeff Ramsey, Jerome Kyles, and Carolyn Escoffrey, Donna McElroy, Livingston Taylor, Joan Lader, and Charlie Sorrento.

Ali is also known for playing piano. She received her minor in Piano Performance within a year at Shorter College under Helen Ramsaur. She has been playing since she was five years old and has accompanied many people and musical productions.

Some of Ali's major influences include:

Linda Eder, Aretha Franklin, Jennifer Hudson, Lena Horne, Judy Garland, Whitney Houston, Billie Holliday, and Lara Fabian, Barbra Streisand

*** Lesson Details ***
Ali loves to share her passion of music to the world and especially through her students. She loves to share new ideas and nuances along with the basics and fundamentals of technique. Although practice can be boring for the student, asking a student to pick at least one song to work on can help the student and the teacher have fun and learn at the same time. After a few months, not only will her students have fun, but they will learn how to be a better person and musician.

*** Studio Equipment ***

Dear Allie, We are so happy to have found you this summer. It is amazing to see Nicholas stay so focused and interested for an hour at the piano. His love of music seems to have grown since we started lessons with you. We really appreciate your capacity to adapt to his needs and to keep him excited. Thanks!

Jordan O.

Atlanta, GA

My technique for teaching acting focuses on script and a character analysis to help the student better embody the character by understanding their motives, psychology, and worldview.

Professionally, acting has taken a backseat to my music work, but I've studied the craft extensively and enjoy imparting the knowledge. I would recommend my instruction in this area for someone who is approaching the craft for the first time.

About Jordan

Thank you for taking the time to view my profile- I look forward to helping you achieve your musical goals. I'm excited to announce that I'm now available to teach via Skype if you're outside of my teaching radius or are seeking a more convenient alternative.

I'm a professional guitarist with a background in jazz, heavy metal, blues, classical, and bossa nova. In 2006 I graduated from the Berklee College of Music and am lead guitarist for the Atlanta band Leaving Babylon.

Whether you are a beginning guitarist or a seasoned professional, I can expand and enhance your playing in any dire
ction you choose. I look forward to getting to know you as a student and learning about what course of study will bring out not only your understanding of music but a musical style that is unique to you.

Having a long time love of all music I have always enjoyed discussing music and educating others on its many aspects. As such I began teaching during summers home from Berklee and found that it was something I had a great deal of talent for. Now, with seven years of teaching experience behind me, I look forward to bringing my skills and insights to students of all ages and bring not only ability on the guitar but a greater love of music to a fresh crop of open minds!!

In addition to guitar, I am also qualified to teach voice, public speaking, dramatic acting, and all aspects of music theory, the latter of which I incorporate into all of my music lessons.

PLEASE NOTE: I am able to take students either in my home studio or at the student's residence. In both cases students who are under 18 years of age are required to have a parent or guardian present during all lessons. Additionally, please note I have two cats as well, in the event that allergies may be an issue.

*** Lesson Details ***
Although I follow a specific lesson plan, its important to customize that to each student's skill level and specific needs. Thus, I will spend the first lesson evaluating where the student is in terms of overall musical awareness, existing skill on the instrument, and long term interest.

By the end of the first month, my beginning students will be able to perform basic chromatic and major scales, name the notes on the instrument, and have command of a few basic chords. With these core concepts and regular, committed practice, they will be able to learn and perform songs in a wide variety of styles after 3 to 6 months have passed.

My more advanced students will have a lesson plan customized to their specific goals and desires. In 3 to 6 months with such a student I will have them well on the path to accomplishing their long term goals, whether those be playing, composition, harmonic awareness, understanding of theory, or all of the above.

*** Studio Equipment ***
dedicated music room; cables/amps; electric & acoustic guitars; keyboard

*** Travel Equipment ***
Electric or acoustic guitar as needed.

*** Specialties ***
Having graduated from the Berklee College of Music, I follow their approach in educating the student. In this regard I teach music theory along with the physical act of playing the guitar, which serves to not only enrich the experience for the student but demonstrate how what they are learning is applied to music on the whole.

I am fluent in many genres and specialize in rock, jazz, the blues, and various fusion genres. Because music functions off of the same principles regardless of genre, I can take whatever style the student might best appreciate and structure my lesson plan around it.

Great Instruction for all levels

I am in my mid-thirties and have never had any formal musical instruction until I started taking lessons with Jordan a few months ago. I was a little nervous about starting the lessons, but Jordan made me very comfortable right away. You definitely can tell he knows music inside and out. He is also very helpful about incorporating just enough music theory into each lesson, so I can expand my knowledge of theory, but not so much that I get overwhelmed. I would definitely recommend Jordan to anyone looking for a great vocal or guitar instructor.

Great lessons

Jordan is an excellent instructor. I'm very pleased with the guidance that I have received thus far. With the limited amount of time spent in a 30min session, we always seem to cover a lot of ground. I would recommend lessons with him for any guitarist looking to take their guitar skills to the next level.

Ebony C.

Marietta, GA

About Ebony

Music has always been apart of my life! After hearing my great-grandmother and her siblings sing various Spirituals, I knew I wanted to become a singer as well. I began singing in my middle school choir and I have been an active chorale member since. I began taking voice and piano lessons in 2007 at Georgia Perimeter College (GPC). While attending GPC, I had many performance opportunities in groups such as: chorale, opera, jazz and musical theater. I was also enrolled in piano lessons as well as a keyboard techniques class. Fall 2009, I transferred to Kennesaw State University (KSU) were I was
active in Chamber Choir, Gospel Choir, and Opera Theater. During my first semester I had the opportunity to experience my first leading role in a full opera (The Medium). In 2010, I also began performing with Peach State Opera Company where I appeared in multiple opera scenes, as well as "Carmen" and "The Magic Flute". I began teaching Piano lessons in Spring 2011 and Voice in Spring 2012. I always knew there were two things I wanted to do career wise. I wanted to help people in some way or become a professional singer. Well, when I was first approached by a friend in 2010 who needed a substitute for piano, I realized I could fulfill both dreams in one! I truly believe children are our future therefore I understand I must be sensitive to their needs. Another thing I mention to the parents of my students, it's never too late to begin studying music. I am very patient with my students, I encourage them to move at there own pace and I do not allow "I Can't's" in our lessons. Also, I come up with lesson plans that work for the student individually because we all have different needs. Another thing is that I always make myself available, I make sure students know I am only a call, text or email away!

*** Lesson Details ***
I would consider myself a laid back instructor. Being a student myself showed me what I enjoyed from my professors. And I did well in classes where I was able to loosen up. Music should be exciting, of course there are rules but it's important to keep in mind that it's not what you say but how you say it.The curriculum is based on the students needs. For example, a beginner student will start with note values and posture, intermediate students review of the staff and sight reading and so forth. After 3 or 6 months with me, a student will learn note values, proper posture, hand placement, dynamics and basic articulations and various songs.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have multiple books for instruction but I would recommend purchasing a set book so that they are able to practice throughout the week. Also, if I am traveling to the home, I would expect there to be a piano or keyboard available.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in being able to instruct students in transitioning between genres while supporting the voice.

Maria M.

Atlanta, GA

About Maria

MISSION STATEMENT:

The mission of my studio is to create well-rounded, educated musicians who will always have a lifelong passion for the art no matter their long-term goals. I strive for my students to be:

(1) Lifelong learners who develop successful learning habits.
(2) Creative and critical thinkers who will become effective communicators.
(3) Responsible and respectful members of society who respect other cultures.
(4) Able to set short-term and long-term goals and be able to see them through to their success.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:

It is of the utmost importance that my stude
nts are well-educated in their chosen instrument; they must know and understand music and music-making. Students who can play are a dime a dozen, but students who understand the music they are playing are often hard to find. I teach students to know music thoroughly, not just to “play.” I desire my students to comprehend elements of the score, to use their bodies effectively to make good sound, and to interpret music creatively and according to historical performance practices across all genres of music. Thus, I give students a purposeful education in technique, quality literature, performance and artistry, music theory, and music history.

Although students differ in ability and development, I maintain high expectations for our students. I expect attention and respect in lessons, faithful and diligent practice, careful adherence to instructions, and an “I’ll-do-my-best” attitude. If students regularly meet these expectations, then they will excel to the level that they are able. It is my joy to help students master their music, to do the best they can, and to strive for and achieve excellence.

Lastly, I want students to enjoy and appreciate their instrument, music, and music-making; and I know as as a teacher, I am very influential in making this happen. Students develop enjoyment of music by understanding music, experiencing success in music, being exposed to good and varied genres of music, and receiving instruction from a teacher who is enthusiastic and encouraging. It is my goal to provide all of these opportunities for students, and as a result their lives will be enriched as they enjoy their instrument.
