After playing piano professionally while in high school, David attended the University of Montevallo- Alabama's oldest and most respected music school and earned a Bachelor of Music Education in Piano and Voice. In fact, David studied classical piano with Dr. Robert Cowan of the i
nternationally acclaimed duo piano team- Yarbrough and Cowan and studied voice with Bruce Tolbert and Madame Baruvka- a world renowned European opera singer. Additionally, David was also a fellow classmate of the current Broadway diva, Rebecca Luker.ï»¿
After graduating from Montevallo, David moved to Atlanta and starred in professional musical theatre while working as a public school choral music director and attending Georgia State University for Post Baccalaureate studies in Theatre. In fact, David completed some of his actor training at the HB Acting Studio in NYC.
Some of David's favorite roles include the Dentist in Little Shop of Horrors, Rudolfo in A View from the Bridge, Serge in The Food Chain, the teacher in School House Rock, Sky Masterson in Guys and Dolls, multiple characters in The Harvey Milk Show and Raywanda in Saga: The Story of Whitney Bonneville. David has been seen on stage at the 14th Street Playhouse, Neighborhood Playhouse, Actor's Express, Terrific New Theatre, the World Congress Center and the Crystal Pistol Theatre at Six Flags Over Georgia.
In 1995, David earned a Master of Education in Counseling from Georgia State University and completed 2 more years of additional Post Graduate studies in Counseling at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
After working in the public and private schools for a number of years, David combined his music, theatre and counseling experience into creating David M Artist Development in 2005. In fact, David is one of the only piano and voice teachers in the country who's been cross trained in the areas of music, theatre, education and psychology.
David particularly enjoys working with semiprofessional and professional musicians and actors in the Atlanta area looking to expand their knowledge, skills and experience and adults who've ignored their creative sides for most of their life while attending to family and career matters instead.

Having a long time love of all music I have always enjoyed discussing music and educating others on its many aspects. As such I began teaching during summers home from Berklee and found that it was something I had a great deal of talent for. In addition to guitar, I am also qualified to teach voice, public speaking, dramatic acting, and all aspects of music theory, the latter of which I incorporate into all of my music lessons.
PLEASE NOTE: I am able to take students either in my home studio or at the student's residence. In both cases students who are under 18 years of age are required to have a parent or guardian present during all lessons. Additionally, please note I have two cats as well, in the event that allergies may be an issue.
*** Lesson Details *** Although I follow a specific lesson plan, its important to customize that to each student's skill level and specific needs. Thus, I will spend the first lesson evaluating where the student is in terms of overall musical awareness, existing skill on the instrument, and long term interest.
By the end of the first month, my beginning students will be able to perform basic chromatic and major scales, name the notes on the instrument, and have command of a few basic chords. With these core concepts and regular, committed practice, they will be able to learn and perform songs in a wide variety of styles after 3 to 6 months have passed.
My more advanced students will have a lesson plan customized to their specific goals and desires. In 3 to 6 months with such a student I will have them well on the path to accomplishing their long term goals, whether those be playing, composition, harmonic awareness, understanding of theory, or all of the above.

Great Instruction for all levels
I am in my mid-thirties and have never had any formal musical instruction until I started taking lessons with Jordan a few months ago. I was a little nervous about starting the lessons, but Jordan made me very comfortable right away. You definitely can tell he knows music inside and out. He is also very helpful about incorporating just enough music theory into each lesson, so I can expand my knowledge of theory, but not so much that I get overwhelmed. I would definitely recommend Jordan to anyone looking for a great vocal or guitar instructor.

Jordan is an excellent instructor. I'm very pleased with the guidance that I have received thus far. With the limited amount of time spent in a 30min session, we always seem to cover a lot of ground. I would recommend lessons with him for any guitarist looking to take their guitar skills to the next level.

Thus, I give students a purposeful education in technique, quality literature, performance and artistry, music theory, and music history.

I expect attention and respect in lessons, faithful and diligent practice, careful adherence to instructions, and an “I’ll-do-my-best” attitude. If students regularly meet these expectations, then they will excel to the level that they are able. It is my joy to help students master their music, to do the best they can, and to strive for and achieve excellence.
Lastly, I want students to enjoy and appreciate their instrument, music, and music-making; and we know as teachers, we are very influential in making this happen. Maria has been an absolute blessing for our family. Piano is something both my wife and I wanted for our children to learn, but having 4 boys where their interests are only video games and football, it can be difficult. Also since my wife and I are from from musical, we had absolutely no clue what to expect. We had gone through 3 other teachers where our kids didn't advance at all. Maria was our last try and we are so thankful for the referral.
Maria really connects with the boys and they absolutely love her. To top it off, she's very motivating, organized, and for the first time with any teacher, she had an action plan. We knew where are kids were with progress regularly. We also we informed how to keep them motivated at home and how to get them to practice. My oldest son (14) has gone through 3 levels in 1.5 years and has actually been asking about joining the jazz band at his school. My 3 other sons (6,8,9) have been steadily going through the levels and most importantly are able to apply what they are learning to music Maria doesn't teach them. My 8 year old was actually describing what a chord progression was the other day to his grandfather and used the word cadence. I had to google what that meant on my phone!
Her location is also perfect. As long as they have something to do, Maria doesn't mind them sitting in the living room while she teaches a lesson so it enables me to run to the grocery store or bank which are less than 2 miles from her home while the kids are in lessons.
We are extremely pleased with Maria and I would recommend her to anyone. She is worth every single penny. Our family will be moving to John's Creek this October and we will be making the drive once a week through Atlanta traffic happily.
