Rachel did a great job teaching my 6 yr. old daughter her first piano lesson. She made the lesson fun while teaching my daughter the beginning basics of where the notes are on the piano. She was very encouraging and positive in her remarks!! I could tell she has taught children piano for a long time.

Lovely person. Very good instructor whose interest is having the student learn in a fun but fundamental fashion. I look forward to more of her instruction.

About Sandra
I studied under Mr. Willis Ley at Ley Studio for eighteen years. She was an accompanist for the Heritage School of Dance for twelve years and also played for the School for the Richmond Ballet for On
e Year. Sandra was trained in contemporary, patriotic and classical music as well as music theory. She has taught children and adults piano both in their homes as well as in her home. She is an accomplished pianist who will give the student a rewarding and fulfilling experience in mastering the keyboard to their fullest potential and play any song for there own enjoyment and for the enjoyment of others.

*** Lesson Details ***
As a teacher, I would work with the student on learning there favorite song. This would be a goal to set for the student for the first three months. They would be taught to do the scale with their right hand. They would learn there sharps and flats and the difference between the two key signatures. They would also learn during the first six months some of the basic terms in music theory. I would set goals, but never overwhelm the student, but work with them according to how much they could take in. They would have weekly assignments. If an assignment is not mastered during that time, then we would review it and carry it to the next week. When one assignment is mastered, then the student would work on the next. This would be a step by step processed. My goal for the student the first six months is to get that child or adult to be able to play their chords in their left hand, octaves and fillings in their right hand and know how to work the pedals. They would understand and know the key signatures and what timing they are playing in. The student would also know some of the basic music terms. Please keep in mind that this depends on how much information that the student can process. With some it could take a little bit longer. With others it would take less time.

*** Studio Equipment ***
f/w keyboard ("It's heavy, it was metal inside it!") w/ seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect payment on any music material that I purchase at the Music Store.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in Rock, Classical, Patriotic, Standard and Spiritual and also children's music for beginners. I do a wide range of music from the fifties up to today.

Sandra is very patient, kind, and gentle with my children, who are first time players. Her teaching approach is different for each one of my children, to best meet their individual learning needs. I can't believe how much they have grasped in only four lessons!

I am an adult who has no experience with any type of instrument and was very nervous and intimidated at first. Then I met with Michael, and though there was a ton of information we had to go through, he really made me feel at ease. He has the knowledge, patience, and understanding I was really looking for in a teacher and I'm so happy I found him!

Learn How to Play Piano: How Often Should I Practice?
“I’d love to learn how to play piano, but I just don’t have the time.” Does that sound familiar? If you say you're too busy to learn, think again! Check out this advice from Hyde Park, MA teacher Marie-france M... Many people are under the impression that there is no point in learning how to play piano unless you are able to practice a minimum of one hour a day - but nothing could be further from the truth. When you learn how to play piano, even at a rudimentary level, it's a multi-faceted un
6 Tools to Learn Piano at Home
Piano may be one of the toughest instruments to learn, because of all the multitasking required! You have to be able to read two different musical lines simultaneously, and keep track of what both your left and right hands are doing, all while your foot works the pedals. While most schools have classes to teach students band instruments or stringed instruments, few schools offer piano instruction. This means that most piano students learn how to play at home and in private piano lessons, instead

Most satisfying of all is working only with a good pianist - the level of detail just you and one other musician can achieve when working on material for piano and voice is very valuable to your development as a singer, no matter what stage you're at. If you're stuck for ideas of what to work on, the following six songs - one religious, two modern pop classics, one German-language lied, o
