To date, the group has commissioned over fifty pieces.

Roberta holds a

*** Lesson Details ***
In my studio, I believe that my role is to steer students toward a deeper understanding of themselves, their instrument, and their relationship to music. I tailor my teaching to the needs of my individual students, who currently range from age 4 to adult, often adding improvisation and extended techniques to increase my students’ awareness of the potential of the flute as a channel for one’s creativity.

With over a decade of teaching and a doctorate in flute performance, I have extensive experience teaching flute lessons and recorder lessons to students from beginners to advanced. I teach at my studio in Brooklyn or can come to your home in New York City. I have previously taught in Colorado, Westchester, NY, and throughout New York City. I've been on faculty at The Harmony Program and the Denver Public School’s Saturday Music Program, where I taught beginning flute classes to public school children. I have given masterclasses at the University of Southern Maine and the Pittsburgh Creative and Performing Arts High School, and have taught music classes at Purchase College and Hostos Community College.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a studio with music stands, flutes, recorders, an upright piano, and place for parents to wait. Street parking is available, and I'm less than a block from the subway.

Students are expected to bring their instrument, music, and a notebook.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I bring my flute. Students need to have a music stand, music, a notebook, and a working instrument.

*** Specialties ***
I am well-versed in all areas of classical music, especially new music. My primary instrument is flute, but I also enjoy teaching beginner piano, recorder, and music theory.

I've taken three lessons with Roberta so far, and it's been awesome! I've played flute in middle and high school, but after taking a break through college I thought it'd be good to pick it back up as a hobby in the city. She's been really great with helping me improve my tone and has a lot of knowledge. I'm excited to build my repertoire with her!

Roberta is by far the best music teacher I’ve had. Before taking up the flute with her a year ago, I had learned to play two other instruments. Roberta is passionate about her art and has an impressive knowledge of music and teaching. She lets you progress at your own pace and is generous with praise. Rescheduling lesson times is never a problem for her and her studio is easy to get to by subway. Thanks to Roberta, learning the flute has been a very rewarding experience for me.

Nino M.

Richmond Hill, NY

About Nino

I began studying piano and music theory when I was 5. My father was an accomplished musician (classical and folklore) who played great role in my accomplishment as a pianist and teacher

While studying in Music College, I took part in various festivals and competitions. I performed several piano concertos with symphonic orchestra. Some of them are: Mozart Piano Concerto No 20 in D minor, Saint-Saens Piano Concerto No 2 in G minor, Schumann Piano Concerto in A minor Op 54 pt. Parallel with my studies in College I gave piano lessons in classical music. I accomplished my studies with honors.
I traveled and taught music in different countries: United Kingdom, Central and Eastern Europe which helped me gain great experience how to teach students with different background

I got my MA from the Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA). My studies were focused on education administration and management. This helped me manage class in most efficient and effective way , plan lessons and develop curricula.

I would eagerly take students from all age groups and backgrounds and involve them in the most exciting process of self accomplishment.

*** Lesson Details ***

Nino is an incredible piano teacher. I’ve learned so much in my classes with her. When I first started taking piano lessons (about six months ago), I knew very little about music other than that I liked certain songs more than others. At the time, I assumed that I wasn’t musically inclined (at least that’s what people told me) and I was hoping that by taking piano lessons, I would be able to engage more with the music that I love.

Since taking her classes she’s taught me: the construction of music through music theory, to read music, scales for all of the keys, chords, to play some of my favorite songs, and to begin to compose, write, and rearrange my own music.

As a pianist, Nino is very accomplished--as you can see in her YouTube videos. Her lessons are clear and concise, and if you follow her instruction, you will improve quickly. Nino’s has ambitious expectations, and she will push you to get better. She is also very dependable. She’s never canceled a lesson on me, and when I arrive, she is always sitting by her piano, waiting for me.

I’ve tried taking music lessons in the past, and I’ve struggled to find a teacher who has more than one or two of these qualities. It’s great to have a teacher like Nino, who has all of them. If you’re serious about exploring and developing your love for music, regardless of your level, I highly recommend that you hire Nino as your music teacher. Musically, it might be the best choice you’ll ever make. I know it has been for me.

Bobby S.

Brooklyn, NY

About Bobby

I am a jazz trumpeter, improviser, and composer as well as an avid listener and enthusiastic educator. I maintain an active performance schedule playing improvised music as well as funk, soul, afro-beat, reggae, hip-hop, and American folk music. In addition to trumpet, I have experience performing and recording on slide trumpet, trombone, baritone horn, and french horn. I write and arrange music for my own groups and regularly write and record horn arrangements for folk, pop, and reggae groups. I have attended Berklee College of Music and Ithaca College, and I have a Master's degree in jazz tr
umpet performance from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston.

I have over nine years of experience working with students ages 7 to adult. I have worked both from my home studio and though several public and community music school programs including the Hudson Arts Alliance in Hudson, MA, the Kittredge Elementary School in North Andover, MA, and the Performing Arts Center of Metro West in Framingham, MA. I have studied jazz performance with trumpet greats John McNeil and Walter White, improvisation with jazz gurus David Schumacher and Jerry Bergonzi, and George Russell's Lydian Chromatic Concept of Tonal Organization with master composer and theorist Ben Schwendener.

As an educator, my aim is to inspire in my students an enthusiasm for the artistic performance of music of any style. I strive to convey my own excitement for the art to young trumpeters and improvisers, and I have worked to encourage self-motivation and a longstanding interest in musical self-expression in elementary through high school students and adults. I have experience performing many styles of music from jazz and experimental improvised music to funk, reggae, and afro-beat, and I use my knowledge of divergent genres to encourage creative experimentation and convey the expressive artistic elements shared by all music. As an improviser I am particularly interested in teaching the theory and philosophy of spontaneous composition and musical communication.

Bobby has a great talent for breaking down complicated music theory concepts and explaining precisely why they are important to your progression with the instrument. I started taking lessons with him after having taken a ten-year hiatus from the trumpet. During the first lesson, he was immediately able to identify where my abilities had eroded and gave me exercises to improve my technical skills. He also to helped me improve my sheet music reading skills, even transcribing some of my favorite songs into sheet music that I could memorize. I would highly recommend Bobby as an instructor. His enthusiasm for music and teaching is infectious!

My seven year old son has now taken three lessons with Bobby, and he and I have both been extremely satisfied. Bobby has an excellent way of breaking down instructions into simple, clear, and enjoyable steps. My son really enjoys his lessons, has been asking for more, and being a complete beginner, has already learned one song! I highly recommend Bobby as an instructor for any brass instrument.

Valeriya has been a great cello teacher for me, as a beginner student. She has helped me to build a strong foundation in basic skills and inspired my confidence. Valeriya is kind and personable, and at the same timer honest in providing constructive criticism. Each lesson, she takes detailed notes to support me in my practice throughout the week. Last but certainly not least, she is flexible with her schedule and always punctual.

I feel very fortunate to be her student. Her teaching style is thoughtful, kind and full of humor. As an an adult beginner student with her I am learning the importance of correct posture, arm and hand position but also understanding meaningful playing comes from soft and supple and not fom tension and strain. I only feel encouraged by her patient, enthusiastic and expert approach.
