About Joshua

I am an active musician in the Baltimore and Washington area working as a pianist, guitarist, producer, and composer. I am a music director at two churches and spend time gigging, writing, and teaching. I graduated from the university of the arts with a degree in music performance performing in different ensembles from Latin jazz to the school's production of "Porgy and Bess." Not only will students learn to read music but will get a great sense of rhythm, balanced theory, and even songwriting for those interested. *** Lesson Details *** Music is a universal language that I believe anyone can get a basic understanding for. I cater my lessons to the individual needs of the student. I am laid back

Taryn has done a great job teaching our 5.5 year old boy who loves music, but has lots of energy. She is patient and persistent with great teaching skills. She has been flexible with timing when we needed it. She uses the Faber and Faber My First Piano Adventure which is an excellent set of books for the pre-reader and early reader and also very affordable. We appreciate Taryn setting our son's musical foundation.

Taryn is responsive to my objectives and brings creativity to the task.

I'm a guitarist with 35 years of semi-pro and professional experience, with the ability to sub on simple keyboards parts. I chose Taryn from the available group of piano teachers because of her classical training. Her background is important because my goal is to acquire correct technique and become proficient at sightreading. Taryn understands that an adult student, especially one with previous performing experience, brings a perspective that's different from a child's, or from an adult with no previous experience. She communicates well and is appropriately flexible when required, but firm in her adherence to teaching the fundamentals that will help me accomplish my goals.
Robert D. Annapolis, MD

No matter what instrument or skill level, I'll take you through the basics and help you build solid practicing fundamentals. I'll also help you develop your performance and, depending on how serious you'd like to get, I can also teach you to read music and learn music theory as well! I balance learning and technical skill with fun and self-expression. *** ...

Patient, kind and effective teacher

I've had nothing but positive experiences with Robert! We've worked together for over a year and I can say my voice has improved as well as secondary benefits like my breathing. What I love about Robert is how he teaches, he helps my confidence, courage and faith in my abilities. In my work I use my voice everyday, often I am speaking in front of a large crowd. The lessons have really helped with speech, volume and enunciation. BTW I do all my lesson with Skype, which I believe is a great way to do it.

Great teacher!

I took guitar lessons from Rob for 3 1/2 years when he lived in Atlanta. I learned a lot from him and really enjoyed our lessons. He's a great teacher and I would still be taking lessons with him if he lived here!

Incredible teacher and singer

Zack is one of the best teacher/performers I know. He understands the voice inside and out, and combines clear practical teaching with a holistic, whole-body approach to performing. I would highly recommend him to anyone serious about becoming a better singer.

great teacher, I love the way he interact with my son, making sure they understand each other. he takes the time to understand how my son learns and listen to his questions. He finds the easiest way to bring the lesson across and ensure that the practice time is chosen by my son so he feels he is a part of what going on and he his responsible for his learning. I will have no reservation in recommending Jan. He is great
