About Alexander
My name is Alex, and my passion is teaching music. I offer clients a unique learning experience with customized lesson plans and personalized attention to fit your exact goals and needs. These aren’t just words to me…they are a commitment I make to everyone that I have the pleasure of working with.

Here’s who I am…

I earned a Bachelor's of Music from Berklee College of Music where I studied Bass Performance and Composition. I have years of experience playing upright and electric bass in many styles such as rock, jazz, orchestral, and big band. I’ve studied a variety of instruments over the last 20 years including guitar, bass, drums, ukulele, and piano.

Here’s what I can do for you…

I will give you my full attention and unyielding patience with each and every lesson. Together we will explore the principals of music that
will enable you to learn to play in any style you choose to study. Ultimately my job is not to teach you to play, but to show you how to teach yourself. I will arm you with a thorough understanding of technique and theory.

I love working with kids and adults. I love brand new players with no experience as well as seasoned players who just want to fill in some gaps in their knowledge. Whatever your age, and wherever you’re at with your playing, I hope you will give me the chance to help you have more fun and confidence in music.

Every player I work with gets access to a personal online Lesson Journal where you can see my notes from our lessons, do homework from your “Stuff to work on” lists, and access my entire digital library! Every lesson is designed just for you.

Let’s get started…

You can take lessons at my studio, in your home, or online via Skype.

For lessons in my studio, I can provide instruments and amplifiers for both of us.

There is ample seating for parents to sit in on lessons. Parking is available in the driveway.

You’re going to love your lessons!
-Alex

Mel is an excellent instructor, not to mention his experience and expertise as a violinist. Our son is five and looks forward to his lessons. We do not have a music background, and with Mel's instruction we have found it easy to practice at home.

Although I was forced to select a subject of Acoustic Guitar on the review form, my children and I have also taken lessons with Mel Parker on every subject in the pick list plus a few more. Theory, composition, recording. Improvisation techniques, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, banjo, violin, bass, mandolin, ear training, techniques applied to all music genre's, group and solo performance techniques, ETC! The main point here is that as an accomplished and talented musician, Mel Parker is fluent in the music industry and very skilled at teaching all skill levels, from beginner to pro. He can teach very rigid focused lessons or he can shift and adjust the lesson instantly to meet the needs of the student. My children have been able to explore and experiment different instruments, genre's and other areas of the music industry as their interests grew and changed over the years. They have had many changes in their interests but the one constant has been the TEACHER! It is wonderful to be able to have 1 teacher adjust his education for the ever changing and growing needs of my family. Both of my children are now very accomplished award winning performers and we all agree that Mel Parker has been/is the primary influencer in their accomplishments.

My daughter has been one of Mel's violin students for 5+ years. He is an accomplished musician who teaches his students with a kind and gracious demeanor. She also has had the opportunity to play solo's in recitals and yearly contests that Mel's studio arranges for his students. Because of his well-rounded attention to instruction, practice, and performance, her growth as a violinist has been immense. This growth has also allowed her to compete at the district and state level in school.

About Ian
I've been teaching woodwinds (saxophone, flute, and clarinet) for the past 15 years and enjoy the one-on-one interaction with students of all ages. Music is one of the last professions that is truly learned through apprenticeship. Having a good private teacher is absolutely essential to your growth and development!

Over the years I've amassed wide variety of concepts and materials to speed your learning process and keep things FUN. I've taught all ages and abilities: new beginners (elementary and middle school level), older students just picking up the horn again, conservatory-bound high school students, amateur professionals, marching band & drum core kids, retirees looking for a fun hobby, professional musicians looking to expand their jazz knowledge, and more. We'll start at your level and expand from there! Styles I've performed in
include classical, jazz, latin, pop, fusion, rock, funk, and more.

I encourage all my students to enjoy exploring the SOUND of their instrument and to find their own voice. Lessons include everything from reading and basic stylistic concepts, to improvisation, learning songs, playing along with recordings of your favorite players, and jazz transcription. I am a graduate of the University of North Texas Jazz Studies program and have over 15 years of teaching experience. I'm currently adjunct faculty at USD Dept of Music, Mesa College, and have taught as a clinician/coach for numerous high school and middle school programs. In the past I’ve had the opportunity to study with many inspiring musicians and I enjoy passing on the tradition to new students!

I am a beginning Tenor Sax student and a senior citizen. I have played other instruments years ago, but never a woodwind instrument. Ian has been a marvelous instructor for me. Although I had never picked up a sax until December 2014, he already has taught me how to play several simple tunes and a number of scales. His patience and sensitivity to the appropriate pace is impecable. He also keeps me informed of other activities - concerts, recordings, community events to reinforce my interest. I would recommend Ian as a music teacher to anyone without reservation or hesitation.

I’m an adult beginner student and have been taking lessons for approximately one year. Ian’s approach and method have really motivated me. I’m playing music that I enjoy, while improving my basic skills. He is very patient and is an excellent instructor and outstanding musician. I would definitely recommend anyone who is serious about learning to play woodwind instruments. I’m looking forward to my next year working with Ian.

About Alyssa
I'm a singer and actress from Raleigh, North Carolina. I have extensive experience in the theatre world including assistant teaching, musical directing, assistant directing and interning. I have received numerous vocal awards over the years, from organazations such as NATS and Hal Leonard. In addition, I have been cast in many professional shows, and training programs. Let me know if you'd like to see a copy of my resume.

When studying with me, a student can expect to feel heard and understood. I can work with any vocal issue, including tension, breathing, resonance, etc. While my specialty is healthing belting, I also have a history of classical training, which I use when teaching legit musical theatre styles. I am still in the industry, and so have a finger on the pulse of what directors, casting agents and studios are looking for.

In
addition to musical theatre, I also teach pop, jazz and worship styles. Each voice is unique and beautiful, and I will work with you to become the best (and healthiest) that you can be while still staying true to your natural sound.

Whether you are at a professional level, or just looking to have some fun, I would love to work with you. As your teacher, I can create a customized warm-up track for your voice, which will help you improve daily. This can be used throughout the week to practice. Upon request, I can also send a weekly "homework" packet with a written summary of our lesson that day. On the other hand, if you are looking for a more relaxed approach, I can do that as well. Whether you want to be pushed or start slow, I'll be right there with you.

I really love the way Alyssa teaches because she not only focuses on helping you sound better, but she also makes sure you are doing it the right way. The vocal thearapy-type tips she gives are super helpful, and I have definitely seen big growth in my vocal range since studying under her. She is very personable and a wonderful teacher. I highly recommend taking lessons with her!

About Tomek
Music is all I do in my life! There has never been anything else. I have started my musical education at the age of 7 and continued until today. I hold a BM degree from percussion performance and composition from the prestigious Eastman School of Music. After that I got my MM in percussion performance from Manhattan School of Music and MA in composition at Wesleyan University. Now I'm a PhD candidate in composition at the University at Buffalo.

I have studied with some of the most amazing musicians over the years and won many prizes on international percussion and composition competitions all over the world. I have given solo, chamber and orchestral concerts in both Americas, Europe and Asia. However, most importantly, I am lucky to be in love with music unconditionally in its varied forms hence my long and varied musical education and
experience.

I also very much enjoy teaching. I have taught private lessons on percussion instruments and composition for many years and have been appointed teaching assistant in US universities. Right now I'm a teaching assistant at University at Buffalo teaching music theory, aural skills and basic keyboard technique. I have always had good rapport with my students, many of which became my friends for years to come. I have always enjoyed the various interactions I had with my students and it has always been a tremendously instructive experience for me (and hopefully for them as well).

I look forward to teach you some important skills that will help you with your musical endeavors and to expose you to my enthusiasm for making music that will hopefully set an example of how beautiful and rewarding the life of a musician can be.

I grew up in Houston, Texas and began playing trombone in 6th grade and never looked back. I have two degrees in music from the Manhattan School of Music and the Juilliard School. I am currently a member of Ensemble Connect at Carnegie Hall which is a two-year fellowship program "for the finest young professional classical musicians in the United States that combines musical excellence with teaching, community engagement, advocacy, entrepreneurship, and leadership."

I have taught over 60 private students from beginners to adults. I taught for the Harmony Program of New York for two yea

But most of all I enjoy expressing myself through my instrument, having fun performing with friends for all sorts of audiences, and exploring new pieces of music.
